I'm new to chess. I know there are a ton of tournaments but they seem all interchangeable with each other. I was wondering if there were some BIG tournaments where a ton of people went to (maybe in a different country every year) where you might even run into some friends.

Also it'd be cool if there was a sub1000 or sub1200 tourneys.

Would you say its worth it? Or say drop $100-150 at Target and buy everything you need all in one place.

I enthusiastically loaded up FB marketplace but I'm realizing that this could be a lot of trips.

It seems it’s easier to get people to hang out when you’re older. Social groups are fraying with everyone settling down so people want to hang out.

Pretty recently:
A woman who I went on two dates with and it didn’t work out wants to be friends
Leaving a job and coworker gives me her number to hang out as friends
Coworker at old job proposes road trip to casino two hours away

Is this just my imagination? I just think there are more lonely people in 30/40 and want to hang out.

I’m ranked 500 on chess but I really have no background. I did the tutorials a little bit on chessdotcom but that’s it.

What YouTube chess series would be good?

An acquaintance told me it’s like playing grand theft auto and you get paid. He had a job but supposedly does it when he’s “bored”.

Can you imagine that being true? Like just get out of the house, be productive and make some pocket money?

Or is he BSing like it’s pretty unpleasant?

I have a college degree but work in a grocery store part time. A lot of women with white collar jobs won’t date me because of class.

How do I meet women who are cashiers, work in warehouse , retail, hotel? I find that they’re barely on the apps.

Does anyone else have this problem? Like you don't want to play because it'll be 30-60 minutes of concentration for a rapid30 game? Like almost a hesitation?

And so I end up not playing anything.

Weird now that I think about it. Anyone else have this issue?
