I hired a personal trainer (online primarily) and he legit did nothing for about 3 weeks of coaching and went on vacation during this time.

He did weekly check in’s and stuff like that including watching my training vids I sent him, but ever since I gave him notice that I’m canceling the service starting June 1st he never took my remaining 3 weeks serious and basically ignored me in which one week was a vacation he went on. I used affirm to pay for this and the last payment just left and I was wondering should I dispute the charge of 75% of that? I almost let it go but it was too much, though the program was pretty good overall besides this problem. (He also said in his contract I signed that I will not dispute with this the bank but again he didn’t give me the service I sought and just ignored my message for over a month). As a trainer what would you do?

I’m from Canada btw.

Saw this post in Mississauga for an osap grant to study. Canada is literally becoming a ticket for scammers to take advantage of the vulnerable, but if you fall for this you probably shouldn’t be studying

Do you think degrees are worthless?

There’s def some gray areas but overall I think degrees are becoming more and more worthless, and ofc your major matter and what you’re able to leverage from that. From Waterloo alumni speaking I think it’ll depend on your field and the school holds a strong reputation

Happy Canada Day everyone!

Just a friendly reminder to be responsible and have fun safely when going to gatherings or public. Kinda sucks it’s mid of the week but let’s not let that ruin this beloved day, and also check in with a friend. It’s nice to kind of detach from work/school for a day mid of the week.

Thanks goose

Went to a Vaughan Walmart and I kid you not I didn’t see a single non In*i*n employee.

That’s insane, I will continue to say this but Walmart also needs to be investigated with their discriminatory employee hiring. Also I’m South Asian too, from Pakistan to be specific

To my fellow Mississauga residents

Can we please behave on Canada Day? I’ve celebrated this beloved day since I was a child and now mid 20s and trus me the celebration over the past years are not Canadian traditions. Please also pick up after yourselves in public spaces. This is a duty of all and to protect the environment and no one should pick up after you.

Edit: this is obviously directed to those who know they’re about to act out of line, go beyond (remember it is a workday the next day). Ofc stay safe and have fun! You know who you are.

Turnitin for courses

Some of my courses allowed you to submit your work twice or as many times to reduce your score and or make changes accordingly while some courses only allow ONE submission. That one submission would be driving me crazy since I would be reviewing it to see why there’s matches (even if the number is like 5-6% similarity- which doesn’t mean much since it depends if your work has been cited properly) but let’s say longer essays you missed one or two then you would be on the hook for a potential policy violation

Anyone heard back from TC Energy Scholarship 2026 ?

In a recent email they stated that there was a "mistake" with the last mass email they sent and that no one received a decision, so they'll be reevaluating and come to a decision end of June. May we all be blessed

Does the CV format/template you use for your PhD/grad apps for an impact?

Drop the link to your template you followed or got inspiration from. I’m applying soon but need to generate a resume /CV and I’m very indecisive and overwhelmed from what is accepted. Particularly a grad student at the elite schools in US would help, thanks

Anyone apply to a Us school where they asked if you have been disciplined for violating policy (academic or non academic), and what was your response and if you got rejected/admitted

In my third year I was given policy 71 for wrong citation thus constituting for plagiarism, prof was super nice it was a learning moment only gave me 3% off assignment and received an 88 in the course, but he reported it to integrity office and they said I was on disciplinary probation for the remainder of my undergrad and I had no issues other than that. Now a US PhD program asks for it and I was wondering if I should disclose it, the integrity office told me that no one other than med or dental school ask for the record as it’s kept internal for only a few to access, not even the registrar asks for it. What should I do?

I’m applying like top schools, I know this question may come up and I’m kind of lost. Nothing was ever on my transcript either. Shoot me a dm if you’ve been through such process

Also worth mentioning that I did learn from it and completed a masters here where I did an integrity module and a thesis where I excelled. Also did a PD course too that was research in workplace etc.

I’m from Canada (completing MA and complete Joint Honours BSc), applying to US PhD this upcoming cycle and one thing I know will be brought up, need advice I’m worried

In third year I was in a group and we didn’t cite correctly thus we all were guilty of plagiarism, but prof was nice and she only docked 3 marks, still got an A but was placed on disciplinary probation, nothing other than that and there was no proceedings just solved informally. They told me the record probation will be removed upon completion of UG. I completed an honours thesis and did excellent (A+) will have letter that substantiate that too and it taught me to always cite correctly and learned more about annotated bibliographies etc. my question is will I be automatically disqualified as a PhD applicant at elite schools? (Think MIT, Yale and some safety schools like UT Austin, Michigan etc). I feel like I would have to declare and others told me it’s nothing to worry about since they’ll never know or check, and my integrity officer told me only med schools and dental asked for the record but that’s about it. Idk what to do, I’m really mad that we were oblivious at the time and didn’t check our work, but led me to do that in every course after.

For context as well (I’m a US citizen as well, my ug gpa is a bit low (last two years is 3.8/4 but cgpa is 3.3ish). and my masters gpa is A plus TA, and got work experience along with a lot of club involvement and a medal from dean for leadership. I go to a rather elite school in Canada as well)

This might be a strange take, but why don’t for other faculties we don’t use the last like 6 academic terms like engineering to calculate honours at graduation (distinction, deans honours or nothing).

I know Eng does it and admittedly it is the tougher major of all but that’s subjective and I know they follow a strict schedule for all their course requirements but everyone deserves to improve themselves and be commended for it, for example I started off undergrad low grades 60-70s and ever since last 6 terms I’ve hit deans list with average 87 almost but my cgpa is below 80 but high 70s.

Even for professional schools and advanced degrees they usually look at your last 20 courses/2 years.

Do yall think restaurant owners or franchisees lean towards opening restaurants knowing well they can exploit TFWs and basically get away with cheap labour and suspicious business

Literally in GTA especially ive seen strangely more and more restaurants open and only employ foreigners who have trouble communicating in English. Yes most restaurant businesses fail but I’m talking about the ones that don’t (not even talking about the flourishing restaurants). I’ve honestly stopped going to places who obviously do it, since it dishonours the Canadian values (and I’m an immigrant myself).

▲ 2 r/PhD

I’m nervous about PhD comprehension exams, just generally most students pass but the small percentage that don’t fail…

I haven’t even started my PhD yet and this the thing that gets me, long and tedious examinations by random faculty members as well I’ve heard. Can someone take the time and give me a few words of encouragement. Admittedly I’m not the best test taker especially during UG
