Is there a reputation for universities with more complex curriculums and rigour?

In other words do universities here vary in terms of their rigour and grade inflation? Like for example (reportedly) Mac and Queens undergrad for example are feeder schools for medical school as in the school hands out high grades to their students basically (I’ve actually read this a lot of places). This method of inflating grades is getting more common and the value of 4.0 seems to diminish more. Other institutions such as Waterloo and Uft aren’t known to inflate grades though is it much harder to get a higher gpa etc. so my point is for grad admissions is the institution rigour of any value when they make their decisions (along of other key factors ofc).

Has anyone used osap to fund their research based masters program roughly year long?

How does this work? I got one year left of osap towards my lifetime maximum. I also got admitted to a masters program 16 months (but imma accelerate it to 12) got a funding scholarship package of $21k (going to apply to other scholarships as well when i enrol in fall but no guarantee yet). I’m also located 110km away from campus, Waterloo. I don’t plan to live there just commute when I got classes.

Isn’t it ironic that the companies/businesses that emphasize/promote the “Proudly Canadian” or something to that effect be the one hiring TFW (non Canadians basically)

A lot of examples we are no strangers to. I just find it ridiculous, it’s like hey we are proudly Canadian and support our business etc and then they’re doing some shady shit (obviously there are anomalies but generally this is the case for alot of establishments).

Anyone else sick of the surveys Waterloo wants us to do for a chance to win nothing really

First of all nobody wins those from the draw they mention, or I haven’t heard anyone. Also the surveys take forever, they used to give a $5-20 gift card years back but now it’s just a chance for lame prizes. I get it, it’s for the “advancement of research” but I ain’t spending time doing something like that honestly

Have those who applied for the bloom scholarship for 2027 heard back yet? *Canada*

This scholarship program only applies to Canadians so I applied a little under a month ago with a deadline of the 26th of April. Haven’t heard back yet (understandably takes some time to go through those apps as it’s a holistic approach). Hopefully I get an interview at the very least 🙏🏽

This might get some heat or backlash.

Anyone tired of the “polarity” or so and so fellows on social media especially LinkedIn! Like their whole personality reflects just being selected for the fellowship. Not just that fellowship but others as well Stan or wtv other there maybe. We get it, you’re a top linkedin chad, and with your FAANG or big tech internship(s) or soon to be in Cali or Canada. Good for you, goes for non Waterloo students as well.

PS. And no I’m not “hating” I ain’t even in a tech career (yes non cs/eng students also go to Waterloo….)just tired of them spamming tf out of their feed (probably for more attention and exposure) and since I’m In the area my algorithm shows me such things. I also very carefully selected this time to post this as all the “fellows” or content creator are also up editing using chat (which is soo obvious in their posts), but understandably so you’re using your network for opportunities.

How much emphasis are your last two years for US PhD admissions?

I was aiming for some interdisciplinary PhD programs in humanities and business. I was aiming (though ambitious) like top 5 or so like Yale or MIT. My undergrad in Canada was a roller coaster from low to higher grades with a thesis, I would say I’ll have strong LoR since I’ll be doing a masters here as well, my cgpa might be low (3.0 ish) however my last two years is 3.8 roughly. Do they place more emphasis on last two years ? Cuz that’s the case in Canada for most further studies. Upward trend is also very touted for from what I heard (for obvious reasons). Any advice is much appreciated

Edit: for some context (which is probably very important) I go to a top tier school I would say, had some internships and very good extra curricular. Good research experience as well + thesis. And a joint degree in arts and science. Also Canadian and American by citizenship so that’ll help with funding hopefully. Also the context of my grades also matter, I have Cs and Ds (no fails), and handful of W’s cuz of the family death during peak of Covid (which I petitioned for and is on my transcript actually).

Petition to investigate John tibbits?

I’m not even a KWC area resident but attend school here (UG and Grad) and saw the downfall of these cities and believe an investigation for this corrupt administration, hands down garnished the reputation of Conestoga which at one point was respected for trades, now on the boycott list of colleges (which will be horrible for actual students). Matter of fact there was an article stating the deterioration of academic integrity and quality for this college load over the past years. Now this man got a hefty severance package that only funneled in “international students” and ruined the academic system there. He shouldn’t even have a name for the campus on University Ave. he doesn’t even deserve it.

Edit: and don’t even get me started on the economic impact of housing and jobs in the area. It led to increased crime and immigration frauds etc. and no I’m not being racist ( I feel bad for those who spent their life savings back home to be scammed essentially by this whole corrupted system and government is to also be blamed). By the way I don’t even go to Conestoga and I’m absolutely furious as a child of immigrants especially.

I’m seeing way too many protests on this matter in all provinces, but not from proper students who attend a university here or accredited school (not those strip mall schools). It’s temporary for a reason, pointless protests, don’t get me wrong there are ways to extend legally and the protests should consider those options but no it’s just demanding for something that no one promised (knowing our government they might even extend or give the world Canadian citizenship 🤣 cuz of their incompetency.)

Edit: admittedly some of them did get scammed by a disgraceful immigration “consultant” but there are other pathway(s) to pursue as doing your research is very important on immigration policies.

It’s basically a Canadian gov stamped version of indeed where you never get call backs and spend useless time on applications for positions that are 1. Outsourced 2. Ghost postings 3. t.f.w/l.m.i.a

And all this is taking up a lot of our tax dollars spent in useless endeavours.

Are these employers serious, I read on a posting for a summer job Waterloo works stating they want you to have reliable transportation, a police check and fundraising experience all for 17 and some change an hour with non paid lunch break and travelling will occur 75% of the time for 8 weeks and occasional weekends. Like wth is this slavery shit, I require all that for a garbage wage? Wage suppression is a real thing be careful, I thought the non paid volunteer stuff were bad on works but at least they’re not as demanding.

Edit: sure the job also reimburses mileage but still very disgraceful, these employers can go to hell tbh.

I swear any of us start to confront cheaters or fraudsters or even simply pointing out corruption from specific places and or people it’s all of a sudden racism and there’s no accountability whatsoever just victimize the race card and shame us but in reality we’re tired of the system. I’m a South Asian myself and hate when people from my country do this non sense rather than take accountability.

Edit: Don’t get me wrong there are straight up racist people out there and we don’t associate with them but I would say growing up here I rarely had an encounter of racist person (may not be the case elsewhere)

Some of them were admittedly frivolous applications and for corporate positions too, but we all know the reason why walmrt isn’t hiring any else but……

I heard some suspicious things happening with the Hiring manager/ recruiter and the immigration “consultants”. I’ll let you solve this puzzle.

PS. I’m a south asian person, but a citizen
