Upper Session I

First Upper Session of the week

Gym just did a bit of an overhaul and got in a load of Evolve equipment. These machines utilise digital resistance by means of an electric motor, as opposed to the usual craic of gravity and load. You set the resistance on a pad which feels heavier than the number suggests. So it takes a bit of getting used to. But also means you can change certain variables like changing the tension of the eccentrics.

Biggest problem with these is that if you rest longer than like 90 seconds it resets itself and you have to go through the process of adding ‘weight’ etc again. The future is weird man.

Good session anyway. At my lowest weight in about a year now at 87kg, gonna keep pushing though through the summer.

May you all have a blessed week

Considering getting a DW PDP CM7 Maple - thoughts?

I’ve been playing a stage custom for many years now and considering a PDP CM7. From what I’ve seen it looks like a fantastic mid-range kit for its price point. I’ve always played a 5pc but I like the idea of those two floors and additional 8 tom, and the 22 kick sounds huge. Anyone any experience with these kits share their experiences?

I play extreme metal (DM/BM) for what it’s worth

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Gold Land?

I’m 4 eps in and I’m really enjoying it. Definitely a bit of a more of a tonal shift from what I’ve been digesting all year (no subtle supernatural element, no big twists as of yet), it seems a little more traditional in its storytelling approach but that’s kinda what I needed right now. Very captivating and great character building. I am struggling to resist moving straight into the next episodes instead of going to bed. This is the first ‘Disney’ kdrama I have watched too, interested in seeing if they have anything else worth watching after this

Fix Your Forward Lean

If you’re constantly leaning forward at the bottom of your squat, don’t assume it’s just “bad technique.”

It could be:
• Your stance.
• Limited ankle mobility.
• A weak brace.

The key is to film yourself from the side, identify what’s happening, make one change at a time, and retest.

Small adjustments can make a huge difference to how your squat looks, feels, and performs.

Have you ever struggled with your squat? Let me know what’s been holding you back.

Best eating spot for a first date

I don’t eat out a lot, so I would welcome any suggestions for some good spots in Dublin City centre. I’ve been vegan a few years but the girl in question is more ‘vegan-curious’. I know there’s a wealth of places around the city these days I just don’t know what’s best!

Thanks guys

Yoghurt Bowls Rule

I genuinely eat a bowl like this pretty much every evening, and it’s been one of the easiest habits that’s helped me lose 13 kg.

• High in protein
• Packed with fruit and fibre
• Keeps me full for hours
• Tastes like dessert without blowing my calories

Fat loss doesn’t have to mean eating bland, boring meals. Sometimes it’s just about finding simple meals you actually look forward to eating.

Save this for the next time you’re stuck wondering what to have for a high-protein snack, and send it to someone who thinks healthy eating has to be miserable.

First day back training after almost a week off for a mental health break, an uphill battle but good to be back at it

Tescos scanners at self-service make me want to go postal

I do everything I can to remain level-headed most of the time. But there are very few things quite as infuriating as those fucking scanners, namely in Tesco Prussia Street.
I have to spend an average of 30 seconds per item, putting it close, pulling it back slowly, ironing out any tiny crease in the barcode….testing every possible angle, it has me driven fucking demented. It’s the exact same in the express Tesco in the Liberties which is my local, has my cortisol levels through the roof every single time. I left bananas until last yesterday after spending about 5 mins scanning like 9 items, and then it turns out the weighing scales were broken too, so the entirely uninterested worker (totally fair btw) told me I’d need to try another checkout and had to go through the entire debacle again on a new one. I had to pretend I was fine and act pleasant cos it wasn’t her fault and fuck knows they have to put up with a lot of shit but I was ready to explode.

By contrast, I used the self service checkouts at Lidl for the first time in a while earlier today and had more items scanned in like 10s, not a bother. I was mentally preparing for the worst having being conditioned by Tescos nightmare tech like fucking Pavlovs dog, but left feeling satisfied and a far sight better off financially.

Tescos can get fucked but they also sell those really nice spicy beetroot yokes so they kinda have me hampered

Upper Body I

A quick look at my first upper body day of the week

I have been running a Upper/Lower x 2 split the last few months and getting a lot out of it. It means I can essentially do 5 sessions one week and 4 another, hit everything twice (or more) and still have ample time for recovery

If you’re looking to improve your training, or if you are just looking to kick things off and don’t know where to start, drop me a line

And let me know how your training week is structured in the comments

All Or Nothing Is The Killer

While I can proudly say I have developed a lot of discipline when it comes to training, as an imperfect being, I cannot reliably say I have been able to quite apply this to certain other areas in my life, despite being just as passionate about them

But the key to expecting perfection from yourself at all times is catching yourself doing it, and pulling the reins in and simply DOING the thing you know you should be doing, regardless of the outcome

In every single instance that you apply this to your life - you will always be happy you did it.

As soon as you stop expecting so much of yourself, you’ll find the struggle was all an illusion.

Just do the thing
