“You can get Blu-rays and DVDs, but they’re almost a niche product for aficionados now,” Jackson said. “Since they only sell small numbers, no studio wants to put extended features on them or to extend the cuts. We did hours and hours of behind-the-scenes material for The Lord of the Rings DVDs, and so many people have thanked me for doing them. People would watch that stuff over and over again because it inspired them to make films. That’s all gone now, and I think it’s a real shame.”

According to Peter Jackson, the Tolkien Estate may finally be warming up to adaptations of previously restricted stories like The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, meaning we could soon explore the legendary First Age of Middle-earth on screen for the very first time.

Because they failed to fulfill their oath, Isildur cursed them, declaring that there would be no other King after him and that they would never find rest unless they were called upon again.
During the War of the Ring, Aragorn, Isildur’s heir, summoned them through the Paths of the Dead and led them to Pelargir, where they drove off the enemy. Having fulfilled their oath, the King of the Dead broke and threw down his spear, bowed to Aragorn, and turned away, as the Shadow Host vanished. Thus, their spirits finally found peace.
