[AUS] Career switch with a Bachelor of Computer Science

I have been seriously considering becoming a therapist for the past 2 years now and I think this is actually something I want to pursue. I have a Bachelor of Computer Science (from 2009, yes this would be a mid-career change). I've been working in IT for 16 years now and as fulfilling as it can be, I have undergone a lot of life changes since I started my career and the passion and interest is just not there.

What is the best and/or quickest way for a mid-career change?

Can I really apply for a Master of Counselling through AIPC? (I don't feel like my IT degree is at all relevant, but according to their website it might be???). Are there any providers I should be wary of? And are there any that provide low out of pocket fees/no out of pocket fees (I'm in Melbourne if at all relevant).

[Saturn] Disc spinning but no picture

I've received an untested Sega Saturn recently and it came with a game (by accident) along with a controller and backup memory.

When I boot it up a green light appears, but no signal appears on the television (connecting it to an OSCC using a scart cable). After a bit of no input on the controller the disc stops spinning and no picture appears on the screen.

I've tried removing the game and still get no signal. I've also tried removing the backup memory and still gotten no signal.

Is there a likely cause for this issue? Faulty video cable? Could the backup memory cartridge be faulty? Does it potentially need to be recapped?

I've never owned a Sega Saturn before so I'm not sure where to begin (google told me that I need to recap the motherboard but I thought I'd check if there's an easier solution to this issue first 😅)

Replacing Mega Everdrive Pro Battery

This Everdrive cartridge lasted me exactly one save file before the battery died. How do I replace the battery on this and do I need to unscrew it (and if so, what type of screwdriver does it use)?

Must Play Games?

I was wondering what are some must play games for the SG-1000? I started with a Master System and had never heard of this system before and would like to check some out.

It looks like most games weren't released in English. But I'd be willing to check out Japanese games if there's no dialogue or GUI that relies on words.

I just published the Steam page for my upcoming DRPG

Hi peepz,

My name is sfabian, I have for quite some time now been working on a DRPG and I finally published the Steam page:

Häxeri on Steam

My game is titled Häxeri (Swedish for Witchery), and my main inspiration is the Etrian Odyssey series. Like Etrian Odyssey, you can draw your own map in-game (but there is also an automap option). The combat however is mainly inspired by Shin Megami Tensei's Press Turn mechanic, where hitting elemental weaknesses gains you turns, while hitting resistances instead makes you lose turns. The dungeon is hand-crafted, so no procedural generation.

I'm really interested to hear what you think of what you see, and would be happy to answer any questions!

Also, if this really interests you (for example if you'd like to join a private playtest eventually) then feel free to join my little Discord server:

My brother offloaded his collection to me

It's going to take me some time to go through these to see which are in working condition. I'm also going to have to invest in some hardware so I can actually use these devices, but I am very happy so far.

I've connected the PS3 with no issues and there's strong indicators the Mega Drive and PS2 are also in working condition (I suspect the SNES may not be in working condition but a lot more investigation is going to have to be done).

Adding this to my pre-existing collection, I now have 43 years worth of gaming history spread across 19 different consoles.

How many feet does Teddy have???

Got a PS3 on Friday so naturally I grabbed Suikoden. First time I'm replaying it in 29 years!

Is it worth the price? ($115 USD)

I slept on Pokopia (too many games to play) but I've been hearing about how beloved this game is so I thought I'd check it out, especially as DLC has been announced.

I don't think I've ever spent $165 (AUD) on a video game before. Is it worth this price? And is it likely to go on sale if I wait a couple of years? (I know Pokemon games don't typically go on sale in the shop, but I believe this is a third party title?)

Azure Dreams - Year 1 to 3

This is my very first playthrough. I thought when I settled on my Year 3 design that would be it, however I am not even midway through the year and already I'm starting to do major renovations once more.

I am very much loving this game though and am doing an ultra slow burn playthrough.

Got 40 hours - is this good progress?

I've largely played co-op and have only just started playing different characters. I've completed all of the standard levels (besides Magna Capella) and some of the bonus levels, however I haven't ever defeated a reaper.

Am I missing a core part of the game? Or if I continue to try new characters will I eventually uncover more of the game?

Purple roads?

I just got this game and I am obsessed. However I don't understand what's going on with the road placements. Sometimes they're gold and sometimes they're purple (or red). Does anyone know what the different colours mean?

Triad vs Throuple: What's different?

I come from polyamory where a triad is traditionally three people who are all dating each other (let's call these people A, V and B). If a relationship between A and B breaks down they're both still free to date V. A and B may even remain friends. They simply wouldn't be a triad anymore. Similarly A and B are welcome to continue dating even if V wants to break up with one or both of them. In an ideal world this is all communicated upfront and everyone is on the same page.

Are throuples always like this? Or can they sometimes look different?

Found a great video game

I only just discovered I'm aroace (and am busy recontextualising my entire life). I recently got Marvel's Midnight Suns which I was alarmed to discover had a dating sim portion.

I don't mind dating sim parts in games, but I find it uncomfortable when male characters I thought were being my friend hit on me (looking at you, Baldur's Gate 3). Imagine my surprise when I did a search and discovered there are zero romanceable options. The dating sim portion of the game is purely platonic and the friendships never take romantic turn.

The relief I felt at that really shocked me.

Would Polysaturated at 1 be a Red Flag?

I have been both monogamous and polyamorous (and then tried to close off my last poly relationship when we both had no other partners to try to fix it. Didn't work). I have tried traditional monogamy and I do not like it, but nor do I envisage me ever wanting more than one romantic partner at a time. I don't value romantic or sexual exclusivity but nor do I have an issue with adhering to it. To me emotional exclusivity and prioritisation are the biggest sticking points when I try to be monogamous (I'm not willing to offer either of these).

My platonic friendships are quite important to me, equally as important as my romantic relationships and I like to spend as much time with my very close platonic friends as I would with a romantic partner (which has been a huge sticking point in my previous monogamous relationships). To give an idea of just how important these friendships are to me: my previous romantic partners (both poly and mono) have refused to fill in a relationship smorgasbord. My two closest platonic friends not only wanted to fill one in, but were excited to do so.

I am looking to start dating in the near future and I'm trying to decide whether or not polyamory is the right relationship structure for me. I would personally find it a huge relief for my romantic partners to have people in their life who are equally important to them as I may eventually become. I also have no desire to ask for my partner to be romantically or sexually exclusive even if I am polysaturated at 1.

I have read on this subreddit that some people consider it a bit of a red flag when someone they have started dating have zero desire to ever have more than 1 romantic partner. And so I thought I would get a wider range of opinions. How prevalent is this view?

Can I be a good monogamous partner?

I have done monogamy and polyamory (and then tried to close off my last poly relationship in the hope that might fix the problems. It didn't). I have come to realise I don't care whether or not I am mono or poly because my platonic friendships are rich enough that if I do practice polyamory I'll almost certainly be poly-saturated at one.

However I'm not sure whether or not I can be a good monogamous partner at this stage or if I've stepped too far outside of the mainstream to be able to give a monogamous person what they want from a relationship.

What I am able to offer a potential monogamous partner:

  • Intentional time together
  • Sexual Exclusivity
  • Romantic Exclusivity
  • Structural Exclusivity: I am happy to buy a home with a partner, live with a partner, take my partner into consideration when it comes to career importance, take only my partner into consideration when it comes to kids.
  • Kissing Exclusivity (sometimes a peck on the cheek with a friend or family member is going to feel comfortable, but I wouldn't make out with anyone else).

What I am not willing to offer to a potential monogamous partner:

  • Emotional Exclusivity: My close friends and I are quite intimate. We routinely say that we love each other (in a non-romantic sense) and there is no topic that is off-limits for our discussions. We can also be quite physically affectionate and will often turn to each other for emotional support and advice.
  • Prioritisation: my friendships are important to me and I prioritise them as much as I would a romantic partner. If I was living with a partner they would already gain a lot of my default time (where I'm not intentionally hanging out with them but it's more of a default choice), but I would still want to have intentional time with my partner, with my friends and also by myself.
  • Giving up on my friendship time: Currently I have friendship dates twice a week with my friends. 1 evening each week is spent with a friend and 1 day of the weekend is spent with another friend. Obviously if children entered the picture this might change slightly as other obligations started competing for my time, but otherwise this is the least amount of time I'm willing to spend with my friendships.

To me the above isn't just compatible with monogamy, it is actually a great way to practice healthy monogamy. But my past partners have been unwilling to allow this level of closeness with my friendships (a big part of why they're exes) and I've had friends pretty consistently pull away from their friendships at the request of their romantic partners. And so I'm wondering whether or not my ideals for a relationship actually are compatible with monogamy.

[EDIT]: For extra context, I am queer and nonbinary.

This was such a crazy run! I cannot believe how lucky I got to not only get Ice Cream, Chemical X, Borrowed Time, Dirge, and Instinct but also not get Doormaker! While it's theoretically possible I could have timed things well against Doormaker with my deck cycling, I don't think I have the skill to have pulled that off. Defeating Test Subject was hard enough as it was and even that required me to save scum my first turn as I messed it up the first time around.
