Fox and Lion is a publication and community platform covering UK and European defence technology. We publish analysis, startup profiles, and sector intelligence for investors, operators, and the professionals shaping the future of European defence. Alongside our editorial work, we are building the sector's talent pipeline, including pathways for veterans transitioning into defence technology careers.

Role Description

We are looking for Contributing Analysts to write for Fox and Lion. This is a remote, flexible role for people who are living and working inside the UK and European defence ecosystem and want a platform to share their perspective with the investors, founders, and operators who read us.

Contributing Analysts are welcome to pitch pieces on any topic within our core coverage areas: defence technology policy and procurement, emerging capabilities and programmes, startup and founder profiles, investment trends, and the veteran-to-industry transition. There is no minimum commitment; a single well-argued piece is as welcome as an ongoing column. We are open to a range of contribution frequencies and can work around your schedule.

Qualifications

We are specifically looking for applicants from the following backgrounds:

• Veterans and currently serving military personnel
• Defence tech founders and investors
• Defence procurement professionals
• Proficiency in any of the following languages is an advantage: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Polish, Russian, Swedish, or Ukrainian.

Fox and Lion aims to only publish submissions by authors who have personal experience with the subjects they are writing about. We are not looking for journalists, content writers, or content creators, regardless of their familiarity with the defence sector. We are equally not in a position to consider applicants without prior military service experience or a minimum of five years of direct, verifiable experience in a closely related domain.
