I planted these in October. It’s my first time growing garlic, so I’m not sure when they ready.

Ik ben bezig met een moestuin op m’n balkon. Plantenbakken die diep genoeg zijn, zijn véél te duur. Ik heb veel zaailingen en dan werden kweekzakken alles bij elkaar ook duur. Gelukkig kon ik een deal sluiten met een meneer uit Spanje. 😉 Jute zakken zijn groot en stevig, en ik kan ze zo hoog/diep maken als ik wil. Nu heb ik alleen nog héél veel potgrond nodig, want ik heb nog heel veel plantjes om te verspenen.

I just started composting earlier this week, so it’s all totally new to me. I have a bunch of cardboard, some I which is printed like this. Apparently some are suitable for composting and others aren’t. What’s the worst that could happen if I give these to my worms?

This is the first crop this year I get to harvest. There’s more where that came from and I keep sowing them every 2 weeks as long as I have seeds. So for the next couple of months, I’ll have a constant supply of radishes. 🫜 Better than anything you buy in the stores, much more flavor and crunch.

This year, I’m planning many more vegetables and I was curious about composting. A YouTube channel recommended this worm hotel. Just installed it and from now on I don’t have to throw my veggie and fruit scraps in the bin (or freezer) anymore.

Ik wil een kattennet installeren op m’n balkon, maar weet niet hoe. Omdat het huur is mag ik niet boren en met Trixie stangen was geen succes. Het bleef slap en alles behalve stabiel. De reling is van glas en ongeveer 5 meter breed en 1 meter hoog. Denk niet dat er genoeg plekken zijn waar ik tiewraps kan aanbrengen. Ik woon hier op 7 hoog en heb vreselijke hoogtevrees, dus kan ook niet aan zomaar op een ladder gaan staan. Heb contact opgenomen met bouwmarkten om te vragen of ze een soort hor konden maken, maar ze zeiden allemaal dat ze dat niet doen. Op Werkspot waren geen mensen die dit soort specifieke klussen doen.

Sorry voor het negativisme. 😅 Klinkt alsof ik alleen maar om beperkingen denk, maar dit zijn de omstandigheden waar ik het mee moet doen. Hopelijk heeft iemand hier een briljant en creatief idee waarmee ik m’n balkon net iets veiliger kan maken voor m’n lieve katten.

It’s not the first time I’m bringing a cookie tin to work, but usually the things in there are edible. We have a little baking club and colleagues who want to share something, put it in the coffee corner. That’s what I plan to do tomorrow with these baby pancake plants.

I love propagating plants and I have so many now, so I’m trying to dispose of them in all kinds of ways. It’s so nice to think of all the plants that are growing in different places that come from my balcony. I’m a little worried though people at work will think it’s weird for me to bring plants and no one will take them.

Finally, the bell pepper seeds have germinated too! The tomatoes, cucumbers, and courgettes germinated within 5 days, but nothing was happening here. I wondered if it would happen at all and even sowed again once. It really is a matter of patience. So happy to see this now and very curious to see how things go in the coming weeks and months. 😆

Eindelijk zijn ook de paprikazaadjes ontkiemd! De tomaten, komkommers en courgette ontkiemden binnen 5 dagen, maar hier gebeurde steeds niets. Ik vroeg me af of het überhaupt zou gebeuren en heb zelfs een keer opnieuw gezaaid. Toch een kwestie van geduld. Zo blij nu om dit te zien en ben heel benieuwd hoe het de komende weken en maanden verdergaat. 😆
