America Vs the UK

Hi, so it’s very evident that America and the UK have a lot of competition. Whether it’s food, multiculturalism or anything for that matter.

We seem to be in a loop of ‘I’m better than you’, and let’s face it, both countries are unique and good in their own ways. We would learn a lot if we stopped criticising each other.

However, one thing I’ve never seemed to understand is that when these arguments appear, Americans often mock the UK for colonisation. - and I get it, colonisation is terrible, the UK did a lot of bad to the world… but what I don’t understand is why some Americans use this argument… if it weren’t for colonisation, America as it is today, would not exist (for better or worse).

Our history is your history, I may be missing something here but it doesn’t make sense to me for America to critique the UK for colonisation. Especially, when America has independently colonised too.

(Unless of course, you’re Native American).

Would love to hear your takes on this!

New Drawing :)

What do you think?

I know the eyes are too close together!

I’ve only just started to explore colour theory so this is my attempt!

My cats stuck in a 30ft tree

Hi everyone!

My cat hadn’t come home for 24 hours which is really out of character for her, so we began the search.

Eventually, we heard her! We ran around the fence, into a deep, steep, dense forest.

We made our way towards her and finally found her. She’s in a 30ft tree down a huge drop. She’s basically eye level from where we were standing at the top of the drop but we can’t reach her.

Its such a difficult spot to get to we couldn’t even get our ladder over the fence (even though our huge ladder would’ve been too small)

We encouraged her to come down for a while but she was just crying.

After standing around, trying to call people including the fire department (they don’t take cat rescues unless there’s an RSPCA officer and the RSPCA is closed).

We had to leave the forest and go home.

Now we’re sitting here, feeling awful having to leave her there.

We’re researching tree surgeons and rescues etc but is there honestly nothing we can do to help her right now?

We’re in Birmingham if that helps.

Any advice?

Edit: sorry the post isn’t written very well, we’re distressed!

Edit2: we’re in contact with a tree surgeon now, for tonight, I’ll update you guys with any news.

Final Edit: We tracked through the bushes practically crawling once again at 1am. A huge man, a woman with a rake and another woman with a cat carrier. Can’t imagine what the neighbours thought.

Anyway, he climbed the tree, she got scared and ended up running down but fortunately the tree was slanted so it wasn’t a tough fall. She ran into the bushes and we headed home, when we arrived, she was home!

People care about AIs impact on the environment but other issues barely get any traction.

Ai, of course, has its issues.

However, I’ve noticed a lot of people talk about AI and water waste.

Yes, AI is using a lot of water and as it gets more popular, more water is used.

In contrast, cattle farming gets less attention when cattle farming uses SO MUCH water!

Indoor Cats Vs Outdoor Cats.

Hey everyone, I have a slightly controversial topic that I find really interesting and would like to discuss. - Something that I think is not talked about enough, compared to the advocacy for indoor only cats.

To begin with, I’ll state my own opinion -
(Of course, there are exceptions and this topic is nuanced).

I believe that having a solely indoor cat is just as cruel as a solely outdoor cat.

I posted this on another sub and had a few replies that weren’t relevant to the discussion so I’ll clarify here.

Yes, indoor cats live longer and do not damage the ecosystem.

Yes, indoor cats can have good lives with proper enrichment.

However, not every cat is the same and not every owner is the same. Those of us that come to subs like this are usually well meaning pet people. - but not everybody with a pet is like us. Some people are ignorantly or just downright lazy.

Now, whilst there have been a few studies that show enriched indoor cats can be happy, these studies have not been compared to cats who have safe outdoor access.

When a cat is solely indoors they have less opportunity to exhibit natural behaviours, scent marking, climbing, running (in large areas).

Stress behaviours are more common such as over grooming.

…and many can have obesity problems.

Which is why I’m here to advocate for the best of both worlds. Safe, enclosed outdoor spaces for your cats such as Catios and secured gardens… or, leash training.

Again, as I said this is a very nuanced situation and there are many cats who prefer being indoor only - and many cats who need an outdoor space.

However, I am writing this because there seems to be a standard of ‘indoor only’ in cat communities when in reality I think we should be striving and advocating for the middle ground.

Thanks for reading, can’t wait to read your replies! :)

I would highly recommend watching ‘I Swear’.

‘I Swear’ is a beautiful (but heart wrenching) story about a man called John Davidson who has Tourettes syndrome.

The movie is set in the 1980s and focuses on his lived experiences and how he was treated in a very uneducated era. - which encourages him to become an advocate for Tourette’s.

So, you might be wondering why I’m recommending a movie about Tourette’s in an OCD sub. (Other than it being an absolutely beautiful movie that I would recommend to anyone).

Well, whilst watching I felt very sympathetic for John - but that feeling of sympathy shifted into empathy. At the time, I had no idea that Tourette’s syndrome was comorbid with OCD (not everyone with OCD has Tourette’s but many people with Tourette’s will have OCD). - the movie doesn’t directly mention OCD but whilst watching I felt I could relate to John in so many ways… and then, towards the end of the movie, John mentions his compulsions and everything fell into place. John experiences compulsions such as kissing a lamppost if it’s leaning in a certain way etc… (which led me to google how Tourette’s and OCD relate).

Now, whilst I’ll never know what it’s like to have Tourette’s, I can understand it deeply. The compulsions, the need for things to ‘feel right’. The lack of control.

I know people talk about movies like Turtles all the way down and whilst that’s great for education on contamination OCD, this movie, I Swear had me feeling a sort of way that I cannot describe. I felt seen.

Kimberly is so annoying!!

She goes on and onnn about not conforming but her ‘not conforming’ is literally conforming.

Plus the huge double stands and using things against Elle as they come. I.e., ‘I’m a feminist!’ To undermine Elle in the moment but a few episodes later ‘you’re a slut and pink isn’t a personality’.

Girl what?! You’re so cringe and contradictory go away!

I don’t know what I’m doing, any criticism welcome!

Hii, whilst I’ve had experience with art I’m definitely a beginner as I know very little about the basics. (Not a trained artist).

I’ve never done anything like this before as I avoid colour like the plague.
I’m kind of just doing ‘what feels right’. Following a photograph for reference.

Please critique me, I need direction!

(Also, If I’m doing anything in particular correct that would be good to know too).

I really don’t want to pick up bad habits or make it look muddy etc…

Am I going in the right direction with this?

Hi! Long time lurker here!

I’ve been drawing here and there my entire life but I’ve never studied properly, I rarely ever used references outside of my high school art class (I know, I know).

After lurking here for a while, I know there’s a lot I have to learn, including the basics!

- and I know, this isn’t finished!

But I honestly do not know what I’m doing with this piece, I’m trying to add colourful undertones etc…

But I’m horrible with using chunkier colours (over-blender)

I also know near to nothing about colour theory other than the few basics (contrasting, complimentary etc). As I’ve only ever drawn with ballpoint pens.

So I’m definitely going to work on all of those things.
But tips and direction are more than welcome!

However, just looking at this, what am I doing right/wrong! (I’m following the reference but I’m okay with a more cartoony-ish finish too because realism with colours is scary to me so I’m not relying on it too heavily).

Thanks for any advice! :)
(Or directing me to resources!)

P.s I know the iris needs more depth.

Any visuals welcome!

Lemme guess, I have dyed purple hair? 😭

Nothing wrong with dyed purple hair… but for some reason that’s what they stereotype all of us as. 😭

How would’ve you replied?

Context: discussing people who overtake somebody in frustration but get stuck at the lights anyway lol.

Adam and Eve

Hey! So somebody just made a post about a theory and in the comments someone mentioned Adam and Eve, plus the bottle tree, (tree of knowledge).

I think it’s probably safe to assume Jade and Tabitha are Adam and Eve, they defied whatever was going on.

However, for those of you who do not know the story of Adam and Eve, I’d like to point a few things out.

In the Garden of Eden there were TWO trees.
The tree of knowledge and….
The tree of IMMORTALITY.

In the story, God told Adam and Eve that if they ate from the tree of knowledge they would ‘surely die’. (Eventually)

The serpent planted a seed of doubt, telling Eve that God had lied ‘you surely won’t die’- so, Eve ate the fruit.

She then told Adam to eat the fruit too.

Now, if we go down the route of ‘this place has rules, nobody is truly good/evil’

The BIW sounds a lot like God (although this is pure speculation)

And the MIY sounds a lot like the serpent.

However, I feel like this would lead to the bottle tree falling being the ‘correct’ answer as the BIW said not to do it, although I personally do not believe this as from a writing perspective, I doubt they’d lock Victor up to cause drama around the fact that they’re pulling the tree down.

EDIT: removed my unintentional exaggeration that God lied. Neither God nor the serpent ‘technically’ lied.

EDIT2: this could be a huge leap but I’ve just listened to Que Sera Sera… and, the line ‘what will be, will be’ sticks out for me. Like there’s a greater plan.

Unpopular Opinion(?) - I prefer the games over the movies!

My title says it all.

This game is so immersive and addicting.

I’d watched Avatar before and it was amazing, but what truly got me addicted to Pandora, and the movies was this game!!
