hi queens,
i’m sure you’ve seen the latest controversies around Netease’s treatment of our black heroes and additionally, the nondescript black background “characters” (let’s be real, they are slaves/servants and mere set dressing not actual characters) in Emma’s new Egypt spray. if you have not, please visit r/AfroRivals for some in depth breakdowns of how Netease has mistreated black characters and generally fumbled black representation as a whole.

just because racism is ingrained in Chinese society, does not mean we should just throw our hands up and say “that’s just how it is there what can we do”. and before I get accusations of making a “china bad” post like the last time I posted about the storm controversy; Racism is also built into America’s foundation and many other countries, and just because it is institutionalized and systemic does not mean people should fall into complacency. just because china seems to be more unaware than other countries when it comes to racism, does not give Netease a pass.

how can we as a community make a difference? Disney and Marvel only listen to one thing, negative media attention. They are about to launch the X-Men in the MCU, including Storm, and they do not want Netease painting marvel as racist with their careless and harmful depictions of race.

our sub always welcomes criticism of the harm that any marvel related property is doing to inclusivity and diversity, so we welcome that discussion here, but ultimately, how do we get that message across to Disney?

emphasize Disney’s indifference to the damage Netease is doing to its brand through problematic and hurtful depictions of race specifically its black characters. also emphasize how you have lost interest in the marvel brand as a consumer and are less likely to continue purchasing disney products and engaging with disney media. push for change and inclusion initiatives within netease and marvel rivals. use your own words and feelings and thoughts.

change only comes when people are loud enough, please support our black brothers and sisters and themsters and speak up even if this does not effect you directly. diversity is dying slowly not all at once. Disney axed several trans storylines recently from their media, including finished episodes from various shows like Moon Girl and Devil Dino.

honey you got a big storm coming

Tim Curry has just passed, we’ve hosted several Rocky Horror themed events in this sub and Tim was such a massive icon. Rocky horror is my favorite movie of all time and I just wanted to share with this community how much of a treasure Tim was and how prolific his legacy is. like Dolly; Tim was a fixture in the queer community well before it was considered cool or even culturally acceptable.

while he was a very private person and did not ever reveal his sexuality, his status as an icon to the queer community is unimpeachable. I will miss him forever and I am so grateful Rocky Horror was my gateway to queer community.

really hope to not have to do one of these again anytime soon💔

Dolly Parton has passed and I wanted to take a moment to honor her memory and acknowledge how much she has contributed to the queer community as a whole. she has always been one of our strongest and most vocal allies, even in times and situations where that wasn’t the norm. being a southern girl, she went against the grain in her support of our community and spread so much love during her time here.

Dolly means so much to me personally, in ways I cannot even find the words to describe, and I would be remiss to not acknowledge her impact on not just the queer community as a whole, but our sub. Rocketina, our beloved mascot, owes her entire existence to Dolly and the cultural impact Dolly has had as a whole is immeasurable. from her advocacy to philanthropy, she was and always will be a legend, and the world is better for having her in it.

now everyone make your pilgrimage to Dollywood🦋

and the healers make the mistake of accusing her of not protecting them

yes I know they can touch in comics now

hello queens,

I want to make it clear how important it is to stand up for fellow minorities in our community. this sub is a place of inclusivity and love and has no place for people invalidating each others thoughts on representation and equality.

if you see the storm controversy and cannot wrap your head around why people are upset, read, listen and educate yourself before you try to invalidate people’s feelings on the subject.

the storm controversy, for those out of the loop, is around her beach skin being given epic quality, meaning less frills, attention to detail, and bonuses than the predominately white women that have been given legendary tier skins.

isolated, this is both annoying and unfair, there’s no arguing that. but this becomes even more egregious when we look at how black people, especially women, are treated in not only rivals, not just media as a whole, but in everyday life as well. black women are routinely getting the short end of the stick in terms of representation and equality. this is indisputable fact

storm’s treatment is just a symptom and another common occurrence indicative of the reality in which black women face DAILY. if you cannot grasp this, open your heart and ears to those that are affected and see that this is more than just a skin debate, it is the unfortunate reality of living as a black woman. we should be advocating for minorities across the board to feel more seen, even in ways you might perceive as small, it can and usually does mean something more to members of that group.

lift each other up and recognize that change comes from people raising their voices, and stifling or invalidating any minorities call to be more seen and represented is the exact evil conservative agenda that would see you silenced as well.

will Rocketina muster up the courage to reveal herself to Jimothy? Will Jimothy learn about his mutant genes before they awaken? is Jimothy ever going to learn the identity of his father? and could it be someone we know?

share your theories below and maybe they’ll come true in episode 2!
