I just call the character Anton and laugh my ass off.

“OMG, that’s Anton!!”

“Hey, that’s Anton again!”

The Cure (1995)

Gen Z here and I’m glad I found this one! Both kids gave surprising performances, but I can’t believe that Dex is little Joseph Mazzelo! I had no idea. Brad Renfro, who played Erik, sadly passed away back in 2008, so I’m curious of which roles he could’ve played in the future, given that like I said, his performance was also really good.

I think the heart of the film is the innocence you have as a kid. They both cared about each other so much to the point of trying to find the cure for AIDS. And despite that, as an adult, you know they won’t, you can’t help but root for them through out the whole film.

I think the saddest part is knowing that they won’t be there for each other anymore. Dexter passed away and Erik is trapped in an unloving, abusive household. That’s my biggest curiosity after watching the him, what happened to him, if he ever visited Dexter’s mom again like they talked about, how did everything that happened in the film shaped him years later.

I do also think that despite of course being a movie, I don’t think that two kids would go unnoticed while doing that trip in today’s world, but I might be wrong. Well, today’s world is different in a lot of ways. Part of why the film works is because both kids are having a childhood without screen or social media, I’m sure that childhood in the 90s (and before) was different in general.

[S1] would you prefer the show to be set in a 2013 high school like the game or a 2026 high school?

I feel a mix of emotions regarding this. I loved the charming millennial aspect of the game, but I get that if they want to appeal to high schoolers, they might set in the present day.

However, a lot of shows set in the 80s or 90s are popular.

Why do people restrict themselves on what they post on their own account?

Not everyone, but a lot of people over-curate (IMO)5) what they post, even on Instagram stories or say “I’ll post this only for Close Friends or my my secondary account”. And the post itself something not really private.

Don’t get me wrong, I still have a moment of “well, why do people care?” myself, and then I’m like “fuck it, I care, this is MY account”.

Was the new prequel episode made because of the first episode criticism?

I’ve noticed a lot that outside this sub, episode 1 receives a lot of criticism. Or people saying “oh, but it gets better after that episode”.

So if the prequel episode is the new episode 1 and the old episode 1 is now episode 2 because of that? Like, to try to fix a “mistake”.

Or maybe I’m just thinking about it too much?

Guys, imagine a stage version of Wicked based on the movie script but divided into two like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child?

I’m not saying that we need a new stage version, but I’m really curious about how would this be.

Cursed Child was 5-hours long and both Wicked movies are almost that length too.

Maybe just a limited run?

What do we think about NGOs?

In my opinion, they’re more useful than the government. I would even say that they do even more sometimes.

Do you feel identified with love songs?

It’s hard to find QPR-specific songs, so I’m just wondering. I do. Like, I adapt them in my head to whatever I want them to be.

Spring Awakening is supposed to be set in 1890s Germany, right? Not in the future…

The official version of Spring Awakening is coming back to my city after two years and with the same cast.

After this announcement, one of the actors commented the post basically saying that he’s happy to portray a teenager in a dystopian future governed by conservatism.

My thing is:

I know that the songs feel modern, but when I watched the play, I always felt like the setting was the same as the original play.

Yes, maybe as a cautionary tale, but I didn’t feel this dystopian future like 1984.

Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention?

Have anyone ever met Alex personally?

I’ve searched a lot for people talking about her outside the podcast and in casual interactions, and I can’t find anything. I guess she must be nice?

Are you guys watching the Elle TV show? What do you think about the portrayal of Seattle citizens?

I’m finishing the first episode.

The story is about Elle Woods in high school, where she moves from LA to Seattle.

Both things are shown and yes, Elle is kind of obnoxious without knowing but the Seattle kids are portrayed as kind of rude and performative? Like they have this whole punk and activism thing, which isn’t bad, but it’s like they have to remind others 24/7 about that.

Maybe it’s just a mix between writing, the characters being teenagers and the fact that I’m from outside the U.S?

DAE not care if the characters in a TV series are younger than you?

As long as the story is good, I don’t mind. Maybe I do think “oh, they’re younger than I am”, but it’s not like I can’t enjoy the story if for example, the characters are teenagers.

I’ve seen different people saying that NYC will be empty because people will be at The Hamptons in the Fourth of July weekend, but I thought it was only for rich people, is it?

Or do they have smaller/normal places for the average worker?

How can anarchists be anarchists without government power?

Hello! I’ve been researching about anarchism and I have one doubt:

All political parties, whether they lean towards the right or the left, want political power to be the ones controlling the government and keep the governmental system.

So, I don’t really want to join a political party. I know that NGOs help a lot too though, but I don’t know.

Disappointed with Flashdance (1983)

Ok, I was scared at first to do this post because I was scared of this opinion to be too unpopular, but given the movie rating and bad reviews, I’ll do it.

First of all, I don’t think it’s a terrible movie, BUT I had high expectations given the popularity of it (without reading the reviews I mentioned before because I don’t read anything people say before watching a film).

I just think that Jennifer Beals did a good job as Alex, but the script by Thomas Hedley Jr. and Joe Eszterhas didn’t include too much detail about her IMO. Like, she wasn’t a layered character and her ambition was too ambiguous for me. I did find her insufferable sometimes, but I get it, she’s supposed to be a teenager.

Also, isn’t it weird that an 18-year-old and a divorced man were dating? Not because he’s divorced, but because he probably got divorced before she was able to marry legally. I just checked and Michael Nouri was 36 while filming, I don’t know if Nick was supposed to be slightly younger though, but still.

I liked the friend group but the same thing happened IMO, their goals were shown without too much depth. Kyle T. Heffner played Richie, a wannabe comedian and Sunny Johnson played Jeanie, a woman who dreams about ice skating (by the way, I just realized she tragically passed away a year after the movie was released). I liked Jeanie’s story more than Richie’s. Especially the scene where she falls and her father, who didn’t approve her dreams, comforted her. Honestly, I think that her storyline was even slightly better than the one Alex had. Even if she kind of randomly ends up working as a stripper.

The music was amazing though, and it really had all the bangers from that time. I even talked to someone that watched the movie back then in ‘83 and said that even then, the story wasn’t really good but the music was great. I didn’t expect it because I thought to myself “well, maybe I’m just watching it with 2026 eyes and I’m not realizing it”, but I watch old movies all the time and I’ve seen several old great movies, even some of my favorites are old.

I can’t attend college because of social anxiety and I don’t know what to do, I feel completely useless and I don’t contribute to society at all.

I have a long resume with the jobs I had, but I’m 21, so I decided to try a new major, different from the one I had last year.

I feel like I like my new major way more than my old major, but I developed severe social anxiety during these past few months.

This isn’t new, I’ve had social anxiety in the past already, but this particular episode is making me to not attend.

My therapist understands my situation but encourages me to go when I think her that I think I should do something with my life, but it’s not that easy.

My anxiety is making me screw up my relationships with other people too.

I’m a commuter, so right now I’m at a coffee shop because I don’t feel brave enough to go home. Even if my parents understand me too.

I know I won’t do it, but sometimes I think “what would happen if I just die?”. I’m smart and I also think that I’m a good person. But like I said before, if I don’t work or study like I’m right now, I’m useless. Even if I know that I will do something.

Shit, even writing this is making me go “why the fuck would people read this?”

Sorry if this feels too heavy.
