Anywhere fireworks weren't awful until 1am?

Current city dweller here. Fireworks were so loud and obnoxious from 7pm-1am. The longest pause between fireworks was 42 seconds. Yes, I counted. I have a baby so I am super sensitive to sound now at night. Would love to move to the burbs for many reasons. Anyone suburbs that did NOT have wild nonstop fireworks for 6 hours???? Please tell me such a place exists.

nap schedule for 6m old who wakes at 5am every day

Let me preface by saying I am not bothered by the 5am wakeup. My son is EXHAUSTED by 6pm every night no matter what so we follow his cues and he sleeps 6pm-5am no wake ups (I know, we are lucky. Never sleep trained obviously). However after the 5am wakeup he goes through mini cycles of seeming to be tired again (rubbing eyes, yawning, glassy eyes, staring into space). A few weeks ago he would take another nap by 6:30am but now he is able to stay awake until closer to 7:30am so about 2.5 hour wake windows which I know are not uncommon for his age.

TLDR: anyone else have a six month old who wakes at 5am and when is their first nap?

PS yes we have tried pushing back bedtime a few minutes at a time and he is just totally zonked out by 6pm no matter what so we let him do his thing.

6month old worth it to switch to glass bottles?

We have been using plastic Dr Brown bottles for my son since we began bottle feeding mostly because the daycare we were signed up for doesnt allow glass bottles and I didnt think it would make sense to switch. HOWEVER now we decided to keep him at my MIL's when I go back to work (he will be 8months) until 15 months old. Is it worth it to switch to glass bottles NOW? Especially since he will still need to drink from them until age 1 year.

really sad and confusing

so I am in a group of moms that gave birth in the same month and we always text each other about our babies the one mom that said she sleep trained at about four months is now telling us that her baby is getting so upset at night that she scratches her own face and body until it bleeds and it takes her over an hour to put the baby down to sleep. It's just confusing to me because sleep training is supposed to make a babies fall asleep independently right obviously I never sleep trained my baby and my child does not fight naps or bedtime because I just don't put him down unless he's very tired and then he falls asleep. I don't keep a schedule because I know that babies are not robots. Sometimes he has two naps sometimes four sometimes he naps every every hour and a half sometimes every three hours so I'm just confused. Do you guys also know people who have sleep trained but have a lot of trouble with putting their baby down to sleep it just seems counterintuitive🤷‍♀️

T13 tfmr 1.5 years ago

At 15 weeks we found out our baby girl had 100% cells affected by T13 AND no brain AND no eyes etc etc it was very very very bad anyways we tfmr. Fast forward I had a healthy baby boy exactly 1 year later (so grateful!) Last night I went to a friends kids bday party and lo and behold the kid has a cousin with T13 who was present at the party. The child was walking, talking, playing.... they have mosaic variety but still it broke my heart into a million pieces and made me feel so much regret. Even though I know my daughter who we lost had a much much worse prognosis. Anyone else have something similar? Just tore me apart.

udon noodles?

My 6m old loves everything I have given him so far. We have done 28 foods including rice balls (the only carb we have done so far). We eat udon noodles a lot in my home but solid starts doesn't mention them anywhere in the app. Can I give them to him with a low sodium broth or tofu corn broth? Do I cut up the noodles or make them super soft? Anyone know?

Any benefits to tracking naps/feedings after 6m?

My son is healthy meeting all milestones, starting solids, etc. I downloaded a tracking app since I am off work all summer out of curiosity to see his naps, sleep etc. We obviously do not sleep train. However now I feel I kind of live and die by the tracking app? Like if he wakes from a nap Ill make sure to track it before getting him from the bed ..... please tell me there is no benefit to this and I should delete the app?

I do have adhd and sometimes forget when he last ate but generally his bottles are every 3-4 hours I just follow his cues...

5am wakeup 6m old what to do first wake window?

Anyone else's LO wake up between 5-5:30am? I don't care so much about the early wake up (he STTN bedtime is 6pm) but I never know what to do with the first wake window. He gets a bottle usually within 15min of waking up then he's tired again I try to entertain him but usually he sleeps 6:30-7 or 7:30 then he's tired again by 9. Is this normal? 6 months old today. Should I try to extend the first WW more? I'm off work all summer so we are not ina rush in the mornings but mid August I am back to work and he's going to be cared for at a different location I'll have to leave home by 7:30am. I'm sure by then at 8 months itll be differenr?

Ethnic names.... Immigrants/multilingual families only please

Our firstborn has a VERY "ethnic" name as we are both from eastern europe but live in USA. There is NO English version of the name but it is known in my city because my native language is top 3 spoken in our city. However if we have another kiddo (we plan to within 2 years) I am toying with the idea of giving a non Slavic name. Would that be weird? Would our firstborn resent us? My husband and I both have ethnic names as we were born overseas.

Example would be baby #1 Vladimir
Baby #2 Scott.

Or a different ethnic name
like we love the names Odin and Freya but we are not Norwegian...

6m old 5am wakes question (high sleep needs baby)

I am very blessed my son goes to sleep 6pm and wakes 5am. He is STTN mostly, maybe 1x every few weeks he wakes for soothing. However after his 5am wake I never am sure what to do. I bring him into our bed for cuddles with dad (dad works late so mornings are the only times he sees him M-F).

Then we wait until he shows hunger signs, I give him a bottle. After the bottle he is either completelt exhausted rubbing his eyes etc so I put him back in sleep sack and put him in crib he will sleep another 30min-1hr however he does fuss/cry a bit I pat him and rub his back. OR he is wide awake so we go downstairs to play and he gets exhausted usually at the 1 hr mark since he woke.

We have tried pushing back bedtime bur he is always exhausted by 6pm no matter what. I just don't know if I should give the bottle as soon as ge wakes 5-5:30am , or avoid putting him back to crib and try to do the morning wake window. He has once or twice stayed awake 5:30-8:30am but it was very rare.

I am at home all summer (teacher) so we never have to rush anywhere however in August I am going back to work but by then I assume his WW and sleeping will be vastly different?,?

Tried bedtime routine without my phone/clock..... LO fell asleep at exact same time as usual

my son is six months old we never sleep trained him. We just follow his cues. He always falls asleep at 6 pm no matter what even if we try to push it back it never works and he always wakes up at 5 am too which is fun, ha ha I usually have my phone with me during the bedtime routine so I can see when he had his last bottle if it's close to 6 o'clock we usually take a bath at the same time et cetera et cetera yesterday I decided to leave my phone downstairs and went upstairs 15 minutes later than usual to start his routine. I have no clocks and no reason to know what time it is or anything. I just follows his cues in terms of bath bottle stories plate and putting him down to sleep when I went downstairs, it was exactly 6 pm. He fell asleep with the exact same time as Always ha ha I guess he just has his routine.

Outgrew baby bath tub, not yet sitting independently

6month old (btw he is 21lbs 28inches long) has WAY outgrew his skiphop bathtub but he is not yet sitting independently. I cannot get in the bath with him all the time bc my SO works late so I do bath solo M-Th. I tried to go in with him alone but it is far too difficult to get him in and out by myself.

Any ideas? Advice? Do I just let him suffer his legs are squished and he cant even enjoy the bath :( I know he will sit up soon but it may be 1-3 months from now.

Regretting buying playpen

My 6m old has started to crawl backwards! I'm home all summer (teacher) and am a big believer in floortime and avoid containers at all costs unless absolutely have to (in car, short stroller walks, etc). I bought a playpen (toki kids) that is the same size as our playmat but now I regret the purchase because I am worried it will hinder his physical and gross motor development like if he is crawling and gets stuck in the bars etc. I did block off a corner of the living room and baby proofed. I am always with him, and if I have to use the bathroom or grab something from another room we have a small packnplay I can plop him in.

Am I overthinking this? Does this make me a free range mom?

babyproofing

hello, my six month old has started to crawl so we are desperate to start baby proofing. Our living room is his main play area and it's pretty much blocked off away from dangers like the basement stairs in the kitchen. I would love to find a retractable gate that I can use to divide the living room from the rest of the house rather than doing gates on the stairs. Does anyone have advice on retractable gates? What about mesh or other materials? Our son is pretty strong and big so I wanna make sure it's durable. Someone will always be there watching him at all times but I still wanna make sure we have a room divider that is safe and strong.

For those who CANNOT EBF, is it easier to EFF or pump/combo with 2u2?

Meaning if first child is 1+ and no longer on formula or drinking breastmilk and you could choose for your second...

With my first I could NOT breastfeed at all (part of it is my anatomy) and I had no idea what I was doing with pumping I lasted 3 weeks then we EFF. so for second idk if I should try to exclusively pump or is that too time consuming with a toddler and a newborn? Husband will NOT be around to help (work) but MIL will possibly be able to watch toddler... any advice?

Grandparent instead of daycare

hello, I'm seeking input from families who speak a native language and who have grandparents who live nearby who speak that language. I am very lucky that my in-laws in your live very nearby and they have offered to watch my baby for the entire school year while I go back to work as a teacher. My husband and I are both bilingual in a native language and grandparents obviously speak that language too. I'm very happy that my son will be around people who only speak that language and I made sure to tell them to always sing and read to him in that language as well I guess I'm just wondering for those who have experienced to this. What kind of benefits have you seen? My son is almost 6 months old but as a teacher of early childhood and bilingual education myself I'm well aware of how wonderful this is and how it will advance him in life in general.
