Any full-page websites I can download locally, or iPhone apps available, to read Wow lore for a week? I’ll be away at sea and would like something to unwind.

Super niche question but I did not pack my World of Warcraft: Chronicle volume 1 book with me.

Curious if there is a site to read

AT2035 and AT8175 pop filter, connected to a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen. What headphone will pair well with this setup, considering speakers will echo back into a condenser mic?

Hi all. I’ve got my voice setup now, but realize I won’t be able to use desktop speakers otherwise the audio will pick up in the mic and cause a chaining echo. Seems like a hypothetical nightmare.

Given the gear setup I have, do you have recommendations on headphones or IEMs that will pair well? Are open-backs out of the question before the same speaker concern I mentioned?

I cruise today, and am 1 night from Gold —> Platinum. Any perks I should be aware of or ask service desk about on Day 1?

My understanding is that I am eligible for Platinum benefits this trip since I become a Platinum on Day 2 of my cruise. I leave today.

Do I need to talk to service desk when we board the ship to promote me early? Is it a natural thing and I don’t need to worry about it?

Any perks highlights that would be good to know..?

PSA - the $10 sale applies to Steam, not just the SE store. But I’m not sure whether you can activate a trial, play for 2 weeks, then activate the paid 30 day time.

Since the sale also has a “Return” event right now, does that mean everyone can play for free during the event, even new buyers?

And then the 30 day game time that comes with the purchase will activate later this month, when the event ends?

What is the addon that shows your loot slide-in and fade out?

After looting an item, a pane shows up with all of your recently looted items, and then it fades out after a few seconds.

I would not have it so large on my UI, personally, but it seems neat, especially for speedrunning when I'm running through content quickly and auto-looting.

Thanks

Edit: It's a WeakAura called Loot Frame.

Our child loves music, so we’re considering getting her a CD player boom box or stereo system for her birthday. Don't want to use Alexa with Spotify and open the door to inappropriate music.

Our child loves music, so we’re thinking of getting her a CD player boom box or stereo system for her birthday. We’re not keen on using Alexa and leaving the door open to random Spotify music.

She’s under 8 years old but already knows how to use an Apple TV, turn on the TV, and browse through apps. If we taught her Spotify, she could handle it on the Apple TV too, but most of the time, it’s us (parents) turning on a JBL portable speaker and playing music for her from our own Spotify app.

I’ve been considering the KM5 for myself, but it’s not really a good choice for a child. Are there any older models worth hunting for, or modern options that would work well instead? I figured the CD collectors here would have the best advice.

Edit: Wanted to mention that I have an older pair of Edifier MR4 speakers collecting dust. In black colorway. Those speakers punch well above their weight and could pair beautifully with a regular cd player of some kind... depending on what's out there. I wouldn't need a boombox /all-in-one.

HiFiMAN + Scarlett Solo 4th Gen: Keep my setup or simplify it?

Hi. I’m looking for some setup advice. Right now I use Kanto ORA speakers with a Kanto SUB8 and I’ve been really happy with them.

For content creation and streaming, I use a Shure SM7B with a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen and an sE Electronics DM1 Dynamite. In hindsight, I probably spent more than I needed to on the mic setup. The biggest issue is that I can’t turn my speakers up very much without the mic picking them up, even with a dynamic microphone.

I’m thinking about switching to open back headphones for gaming and general audio. HiFiMAN seems to have a lot of good options like the Edition XS and Edition XV, but I’m not sure which direction to go.

I’m also considering simplifying my microphone setup with something like an Audio-Technica condenser or even an Elgato mic for the software features.

For anyone using HiFiMAN headphones on a modern PC, what microphone and audio setup are you running? Any recommendations?

Horizontal Progression and Gear’s Retention of Value

Is one of the points of allure of FFXI that keeps people playing and coming back is the loot that is obtained across various content at level 75–99+ stays relevant?

The “horizontal progression” that is the current hot topic / buzzword of OSRS and Classic WoW forums (when discussing Classic+)?

Or am I misunderstanding and FFXI in reality is just “gear up all your slots with item level 70 gear”, “then gear up all item level 80 gear”, etc., up to the end game level 119?

Does Paladin in Vanilla (anniversary) have any redeeming qualities or “feats of strength”? Just their Holy healing spec?

I don’t remember Paladin being good at nearly anything in vanilla except for healing raids. Did they ever become good tanks too? Or even for “some” bosses?

By feats of strength I meant anything to show how strong they could be, kind of like Hunters soloing some ridiculous bosses or dungeons you’d never expect. Impressive stuff outside the regular group or raid content.

I do know they are great raid healers at 60.

Is Kentucky Bluegrass meant to be long or short? I’ve been cutting at a “4” and I hate it.

I’ve been cutting my Kentucky blue longer now, set to a 4 out of 5, on my ego mower, and I hate it.

After a few days it’s a bit long for my tastes, and it does not trim well with mulching on to the lawn from the side shoot if I drop to a 3.

Part of the issue is my lawn has weeds, and I’m not sure if that’s because of Kentucky bluegrass specifically or just the need for my lawn to be scarified and dethatched a bit, Filling in the gap areas with more seed.

Is this a grass type issue or a “me” issue? Should I be cutting down to a 2 or 3 and leaving it lower than I have been?

Also, I noticed once you let the 4 grow a bit (a few days) the grass grows a head and starts to split. Also hate that a lot.

Scarlett Solo 4th gen + Magni 3+ to power microphone and headphones.

Hi everyone. I’m trying to learn about the Schiit Magni (and the Modi) and how they fit into modern PC/Streamer setups.

I have a Shure SM7B which I power via Scarlett Solo 4th gen audio interface. It already has an XLR input for my microphone, and it also has an audio port for me to connect headphones. Because it is a bigger port than 3.5mm, I use a gold plated 1/4” adapter for headphone output.

Do I need a Magni 3+ ? What’s the purpose of using an amp alongside an audio interface, if any? I assume my audio interface already serves as an amp, even if not as effective as a dedicated appliance like the Magni 3+.

Further, what about Modi 3. What does that server in this setup, or is it for connecting analog audio like record players and not relevant to a digital PC setup?

Thanks for educating me.

Lian Li O11 Air Mini filled with different fans. What layout optimizes non-RGB airflow?

My Lian Li O11 Air Mini PC currently has a mix of fans and I’m not able to see them all or control them all within FanControl software. It is really annoying.

I’d like to go to microcenter and buy all new fans, the same brand, and optimize airflow in this system. Do you have suggestions?

Here’s what I think I have:
* 3x Lian Li SL unifan 140mm (back, and 2 on top) (exhaust)
* 2x Corsair NZXT 140mm fans connected to my connected to my NZXT 280mm AIO) (front of case) (intake)
* 1x random 120mm fan connected to bottom of case (intake)

I think this case holds more fan capacity but I also want all one brand to maximize airflow and MINIMIZE NOISE. FanControl is important to me.

How did you pick your username? I could benefit from your advice.

I would love to hear the origin story of your online username / gamertag.

And not to be too self-serving, but I'm working on a project called hibimonogatari (日々物語, everyday stories). I'd also like to convert this to a username for gaming and need your advice.

I won't have an issue registering the full name on social media since most platforms allow up to 15-20 characters, but Nintendo/NSO caps at 10 characters.

Should I go by Hibi? hibi.? monogatari? HibiMono? MONO? モノガタリ? something else entirely?

Besides “Learn gyro controls”, what is your advice for Day 1 Splatoon players?

You can be as specific or general with your advice as you’d like.

The purpose is to give new players a warm welcome and help them learn the game or the lore.

This could be movement techniques, weapon suggestions, websites for deeper learning and references, skill point / gear stat guidance, and anything in between.

Is it true that Hunter is a B tier DPS in Vanilla but earns its raid place with Tranq Shot, is S Tier in TBC, and S+ God in SoD?

Trying to cross-check what I’ve heard from others with my own understanding of the Hunter class.

I do recall that in vanilla, Hunter was an OK back up DPS but somewhat metalling around B Tier. But with tranquilizing shot became useful to have in a raid. You kind of earned your raid spot if you were a hunter with tranq shot.

Pets had poor survivability outside of 5-man dungeons and the ammo that hunters used was a finite resource (annoying quivers instead of bag space, and a consumable you had to restock), with a damage cap that never took them high enough.

In TBC, they took all the issues with pet survivability and ammo damage caps and raised the ceiling significantly, making them S Tier class.

And in SoD, they have a strong melee hunter build, range build, and lone wolf options.

Were there any SoD builds that ultimately were novelty but not effective? [Tier list]

Curious to hear your thoughts on the novelty classes and builds in SoD that sound cool on paper but don’t actually pan out.

For example, I know balance Druids got so many spells and runes to make them viable in classic (boomkins were always horrible because of their lack of spells and how mana hungry they were), but I’m not sure if they actually became a top magic dps or not.

There are new roles like mage healers, shaman tanks, warlock tanks. Melee hunters.

Did any of these become A or S tier? Or mostly novelty and not effective or desired?

What server and faction is the NA Wild Growth event?

I’m looking for more details on Alliance or Horde for the NA event.

I know most people went EU but I’m not sure if I should copy, since playing in EU servers with have latency.

I don’t expect to play with streamers, it just seems this is one of the best opportunities I will ever get to actually play through SoD to endgame and say that I did it.

Bonus questions:

  1. How do you lock EXP to not accidentally hit level 26?
  2. Is Melee Hunter any good? Do they need to have pets? (Pet management 😭)

How difficult is this game? Community comments are like split personalities.

Is this game that difficult? I just bought it and didn’t crack the seal on the wrapping yet lol.

I love the aesthetic of the game and it seems fun with the various modes, but I read comments and it makes me feel like there’s two distinct fan bases here:

  1. fans of the characters and the story/lore trailing back to the original game, Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3 and all the DLCs in these eras.
  2. fans of competitive multiplayer.

And the latter fans seem highly frustrated at times and make me feel like this game is very challenging to learn and play well

I was in Kinokuniya NYC today and was blown away by the number of CDs. Modern artists and Game OST galore!

Yes - it’s a contemporary store with books, manga, and stationery, but alongside all these products were shelves of music CDs.

The prices were outrageous but I thought it was incredibly cool to hold those old CD cases again and have it be modern artists like Vaundy + Fujii Kaze + other K-Pop and J-Pop artists.

Next to them were, I kid you not, anime soundtracks and video game soundtracks like Final Fantasy, Persona, Splatoon, Jet Grind Radio, and more.

I’m at the Nintendo store in NYC and they have such cool merch here.

I can’t decide what to buy. They have towels, socks, t-shirts, jerseys (like mock-sport jerseys) and other items.

What did you buy?
