What is the selection pressure that favors complexity in organisms?
If the goal is for genes to get themselves into the next generation then intuitively it seems like a simple organism that makes thousands of copies of itself would be favored over a complex organism that makes only a handful of copies of itself. But that’s not what we see in nature.

My 2020 still has the stock Bridgestones after 6,500 miles and I decided to get new ones. The bike shop near me priced me out three options:
Dunlop GPR 300 - $425
Michelin Pilot 2ct - $585
