Reviews of the book " suite sucess" by Ryan weeden.

A stylist on reddit reccomended this book and said all the tips from this book are helping them massively and are clearly working, so I ordered it off amazon and it's arriving tomorrow ( no same day delivery in the UK unfortunately)

I'm just wondering if any other stylists have purchased/read this book before and if they found it useful.

For some background info, I'm a beginner stylist, and I'm currently offering mobile appointments whilst working part-time at a restaurant. I want hair to be my full time job eventually. I only started offering appointments last week lol and I've got 2 new clients, 2 potential clients ( waiting on responses to my availability), and a wedding next year!

Oh, and a family member whose hair I'm doing on Thursday.

I've printed out business cards with my refferal program on and I want to try to get each client to refer people. Oh, and encourage me to re book.

Any separate tips/tricks would be amazing!

Am I doing good for being brand new?

Anyone who lives in S12, S20 or S2 looking for a mobile Hairdresser?

Hi, I just qualified in level 3 hairdressing, and I'm on the hunt for new clients to build my business. I have quite a bit of availability in the coming weeks.

DM me for further details!

See you in the chair! ❤️

Edit - I'm also happy to do nursing homes!

I turned down a client today.

I'm a new stylist, and a client reached out to me wanting to remove years of black box dye to go chocolate brown. I asked her a couple of questions about hair history and I thought about it and I realised that I have never done colour correction before and this was going to be a complex one, and I felt I wasn't experienced enough so...

I turned her down.

I recommended another stylist in the area to her ( my hairdreseer), who has 25 years of experience behind the chair.

Did I do the right thing?

I'm not sure if I should go ahead with doing a wedding gig.

Hey guys, I'm new to the industry, and I've been building my client base. I've done practice updos on people at hair school, and I've done a prom ( 2 people), but that's about it.

A client reached out to me and asked if I do updos, as she's getting married in April 2027 and is looking for a stylist for her and 6 others, so 7 people altogether.

I've never ever done a wedding before and I'm just not sure what to say/do.

Any advice?

Girl who I work with has been here twice as long as me and knows next to nothing.

I've been at wetherspoons as kitchen staff for a month this week and there's a girl who I work with who's been here 2 months ( atleast that's what she's told me) and she dosent know much to say the least.

She was on shift with her yesterday during Saturday rush, and she didn't know:

. How to make some pizzas/what check she was on and had to ask for help several times.

. I asked her to plate up a tika masala, and she didn't know how or where to find the stuff for it.

. Didn't know the toppings for the jackets. She knew the side salad for them, though.

. Didn't know how to do wraps

I mean, I'm not 100% confident yet, I sometimes ask questions to do with the spec and maybe and maybe I'm being a bit judgemental or maybe I've just picked up quick, but surely she should know these things by now?

It was so stressful because she was asking me questions about the pizzas, and she's been here twice as long as me!

Should I talk to the kitchen manager about this or is it none of my business?

Did any other hairdressers/beauty therapists find it really hard to gain employment after qualifying?

After I finished my level 3 hairdressing qualification, I tried so hard to get a job in it. I phoned so many salons and ones that were close to me. I handed in CVs, and nope, nothing.

All the salons I rang either weren't hiring or they were a self-employed salon only.

I have just under a year's experience in salons, some unpaid work, and I had a Saturday job but was let go due to low profits.

Regardless of my qualifications and experience, I couldn't get a job in it at all.

Most of my classmates from college didn't want to go into the profession properly, so I couldn't comment on them, but it feels like all my hard work was for nothing.

I'm currently working part-time in a restaurant whilst building up my own clientelle mobile so i save on chair rent, but I mean it would be much more ideal if I was employed before this.

I hope my business works out. Truly. It just sucks that I can't find a job for the life of me.

I thought that since most salons are small businesses, I would have a higher chance of getting a job, but obviously not!

Has anyone else experienced similar?

Sick of flakey people and people who don't appreciate our work!

I had my sister and her friend cancel on me 5 minutes before I was supposed to do their hair with absolutely no apology.

Sisters prom is today and her and her friend cancelled on me 5 minutes before arriving.

Like many schools, my sisters school has taken on the Americanism of a school prom. To be fair, mine was okay, and it was a bit of fun, but anyway.

I've recently qualified as a hairdresser, and I'm still building my client base.

My sister wanted some blonde highlights for her prom, which I gave to her, and she was happy.

For the actual style for her prom, she showed me a few photos and also said her friend wanted her hair doing.

I added her friend on Instagram, got to talking, and she sent me some inspiration photos of what she wanted.

We did a trial ( for the friend and my sister), and they were extremely happy with the outcome. I mentioned to the friend that the hair would be £10. ( cheap, but as I said, I'm still building, so)

She left, and I felt prepared for the actual day.

The prom is today ( they're leaving now), and I asked my sister what time her friend was coming to get her hair done. She said 6 pm, so I said okay and started preparing.

5 minutes before 6, my sister dropped the bomb on me.

" Friends name isn't having her hair done she's just put some curls in, so"

Then drops the other bomb

" Oh, and I don't want the style you did on the trial at all. I just want it straightened,"

I'm very angry and upset, and I asked why her friend doesn't want her hair doing anymore, and my sisters response was ( whilst looking down at her phone, by the way)

" Dunno, probably just changed her mind,"

Firstly, in my opinion , it is incredibly rude to cancel on me 5 minutes before, and my sister had to tell me that she didn't even have the respect of messaging me.

So, 2 photos that would've looked great for my portfolio have gone down the drain, and I did a trial that took over an hour for both of them.

So, I've wasted my time and some potentially good work for my portfolio.

They also show absolutely no remorse whatsoever, and they don't seem to...care at all.

I don't think I'm being over dramatic but my mum thinks so.

Are teenagers generally flakey if so why?

I've posted on British problems and a few people said teenagers are flakey but I've never really experienced this ( until now) Why are they like this?

I wish my brother was normal. He's caused so much pain and stress in my family.

I posted just under a year ago about my special needs brother and how I hate how he dictates mine and my sisters life. I wrote that post when I was 17, and now I'm 18, and things have honestly gotten worse.

It's my brothers 13 birthday today, and it's been 13 years since the day he was born. The day he was born, everything changed.

He's caused so much pain and distress in my family. He's autistic and will never ever grow up or live a normal life. He has severe anger issues, and because of him, we've had to cancel plans and are unable to do certain things because of him.

My mum has cried so many times out of stress to do with him. Countless doctors, fighting to get him into a school, when he hits and spits at her and others when he has a meltdown. It's exhausting.

My brothers dad was supposed to come over to the house and watch him open his gifts.

As soon as my brother saw his dad, for some reason, he started to scream loudly and have a huge meltdown. Hysterical crying and everything. We had no idea why he usually gets on well with his dad.

My mum has spent time and money decorating his cake, the living room, and his gifts. He's currently opening some now, but he doesn't understand what it means for someone to buy him something ( at least I don't think so) it's more about the actual unwrapping.

My brothers dad ended up going home.

There's been a ton of situations like this before, but I just need to post somewhere to get this off my chest. My mum is crying whilst he's opening his gifts but is trying to hide it.

I've never had a normal childhood.

My brother is....a burden. I'm sorry, but he is. My mum is struggling more and more every day to take care of him, and his dad is too ( he has him on the weekends) I think it's mostly because he's getting bigger and stronger. It was bad when he was little but now he's a teenager, it's much worse.

My mum has been signed off work before due to the stress of my brother, and honestly... I'm going to get so much shit for this, but

There's absolutely no reason why my brother shouldn't be in a home. There's nothing my mum or his dad can do for him, and every day, I see my mum getting crushed mentally because of him.

We would all be better off with this arrangement.

Has anyone else got a second job after being fully available/flexible?

I'm on a 20-hour contract, and I'm fully flexible on the days I can work.

I've been building up my own business on the side of my shifts since I'm only part-time. i usually have 2-3 days off during the week, so I get to see clients on these days off.

I usually get 20-24 hours a week, plus a bit of extra money from my side business, but I want to make it into my full-time career eventually.

I was thinking of changing my availability where I'm unavailable Monday or Tuesday ( quieter day in hospitality), so I have a set day off to guarantee clients.

I'm still in my 13 week probation, but I was thinking after it's over, will I be able to request this?

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I've read my contract, and it says if I gain any other employment, I must let them know so I can change my availability, so I'm assuming it should be okay?

Friend is a nightmare client. What should I do?

The first picture is the first inspiration picture she sent me, and there was a second inspo pic, which was a very light blonde. I explained that they are 2 different shades. She didn't know what she wanted to do so I said I could do a mixture of highlights for the very light blonde and lowlights for the darker blonde ( the first picture) she had previous grown out highlights too btw.

2nd picture is what I gave her, and she was extremely happy with the result.

Anyway, today she texted me saying why isn't it all over bright blonde and I didn't give her what she asked for. I haven't said anything to her yet, and I just don't know if I did the right thing. She said she wanted to get rid of her brown completely, which I did a pretty good job of, and I just feel like a terrible stylist.

Should I re do her hair, or should I just fire her as a client?

Edit - she also made a whole Facebook post about my business and how happy she was with her hair 😭

u/Loose_Avocado4670 — 7 days ago

Did my 3rd full foil on a person today and even though the client ( who's also my friend)was happy with it, I can't help but doubt myself.

So I left hair school ( UK) literally a few weeks ago, and I'm building up a mobile clientele alongside my part-time restaurant job.

My friend wanted to be a beige blonde with some darker blonde pieces, so I did a full foil, toner, cut, and blowdry and added a few lowlights in.

There were 2-3 bleeders, and some places weren't 100% blended in/even and I feel like I'm terrible at hair.

If anyone can give me some advice, that would be great. Again, this is my 3rd ever full foil on a real person.

1st picture is her hair before, of course, just to clarify.

Do you ever cringe after saying something and think " why did I just say that?"

Me and my boyfriends nan were just having a pretty morbid discussion about her recent early stage dementia diagnosis, and she was saying how terrible it is and how it's devastating for the whole family. I mentioned how my nan has late stage alzheimers.

For some reason, I said:

" If I get like my nan, I don't want to live anymore."

My boyfriend looked at me as to say, " Why would you say that?"

I realised and apologised, and she said, " no no it's something I've thought about.

I feel so embarrassed, and I really don't know why I said that, and I'm overthinking it now.

Does anyone else get like this?

Has anyone else done driving lessons whilst working unpredictable shifts/days?

I need to start driving lessons ASAP. I've got my theory test on the 10th of July, and I know the wait list for tests is atrocious, so I want to start ASAP and pass late this year/early next year.

I'm currently in my probation period working in hospitality. I work unpredictable shifts/hours instead of set days. Because I work part time, I usually have 2-3 days off in the week.

I've just now posted on a local Facebook page asking if any instructors cater to shift workers and pay as you go thing. I get paid every Friday and get my shifts for the following week, so I ideally want to book/arrange a lesson a few days in advance around my shifts rather than a set day if that makes sense?

I'm waiting on a response for recommendations, but I was wondering if anyone has been or is in a similar situation to me and what their experience is.

Just looking at the uni graduates in my pub kitchen job just proves far too many people are going to university.

Literally, I work in wetherspoons kitchens, and everyone other than me and a few others don't have a university degree. I'm working here temporarily whilst I build up my own business, and most people here are uni graduates.

Even the floor staff are people with degrees. Literally, waiters/waitresses.

It's so normalised, too, like it's completely normal to have a degree and work in a pub or retail.

Most of the degrees are completely bs, too. Mostly art related stuff or marketing.

Degrees like this do not get jobs related to the degree. End of. We need to scrap them, or at least stop pushing people to go to university. These people are in an insane amount of debt and in jobs that have nothing to do with their degree.

University needs to be for doctors, solicitors, dentists, nurses, teachers, etc. Degrees that are actually useful.

Week in hand question.

So payday is tomorrow for us and it's my second week here. I was told you don't get paid the 1st week you start there. You do a week in hand, so tomorrow, will I get 2 weeks' worth of pay( after taxes and pension, of course)

My mum said they might not pay me for my 1st week working there, but I think that's silly as it's literally against the law to not pay someone for the work they've done.

I am forever jealous/envious of people who's parents helped them out financially with driving lessons/a car.

I'm 18, and I'm currently building my mobile hairdressing business whilst working part-time at wetherpsoons.

I'm obviously thankful to even have a job, considering the current market, but most of my money is being spent on:

. Driving lessons ( £40 a week)

. Savings

. Board for my mum ( £30 a week)

. Car savings

. General savings

. Taxi money for when I do closes at wetherspoons and public transport in the area stops at 11pm. Wetherpsoons close is at midnight.

Imagine how much money I'd have left if I had parents who paid for my lessons/a car. I mean, it's not all doom and gloom, my grandma has just under £1k saved for me, but that's nowhere near enough for a car, honestly ill probably end up having to finance something.

Because of my mobile hairdressing, I can only cover very specific areas in my postcode that I can walk to, as ubers/taxis would eat into profits.

It's going well so far, but so far, I've only booked in family/friends. I'm just waiting on my equipment to arrive in the post before I start properley advertising. I've printed off some business cards with my price list and a referral program set up, but again, imagine how faster I could build my business if I had lessons paid for since I was 17...I would've passed and got a car by now!

Most of my friends can drive and have a car, and again, I'm just so jealous of them.

My mum tries her best, and I am grateful for her, but I do wish things were better financially.

It is what it is.

What would be realistic for my hair?

I'm getting my hair done tomorrow, and this is what my hair currently looks like. Please put some pictures in the comments of what would be the most realistic option and what I could get in 1 session. I want to be as blonde as possible and a few inches off.
