Source, universally common rules such as wobbling are omitted for brevity

Smash 64

Double Pikachu

In 64 doubles (2 vs 2), teams composed of 2 pikachus is not permitted.

Brawl

Meta Knight Stage Clause

If one Player/Team has chosen Meta Knight when their opponent has not, previous stage selection procedure is ignored and The Player/Team that has not selected Meta Knight will choose the stage to play on from any legal stage, ignoring any stage strikes, bans, and prohibitions of selecting a stage previously won on during the set. If both Players/Teams have selected Meta Knight, this rule does not apply.

Rules Concerning Meta Knight

Meta Knight’s infinite dimensional cape tactic is banned. Double Meta Knight is banned in Doubles.

Rules Concerning Ice Climbers

The Ice Climbers may not use handoffs on a character that has accumulated 50% or more. A handoff is defined as any technique or action that results in an inescapable loop between Climbers. If a Player is found to be doing this, that Player forfeits the Game.

Grab Infinites

A Player/Team may not use Grab Infinites, such as King Dedede’s chaingrab, Marth’s grab release on Ness/Lucas, or ZSS’s on Wario.

Smash Wii U

Bayonetta Stage Clause

If one Player/Team has chosen Bayonetta when their opponent has not, previous stage selection procedure is ignored and The Player/Team that has not selected Bayonetta will choose the stage to play on from any legal stage, ignoring any stage strikes, bans, and prohibitions of selecting a stage previously won on during the set. If both Players/Teams have selected Bayonetta, this rule does not apply.

Character Restrictions

Cloud is limited to one per team in Doubles. All other DLC characters are legal.

Ultimate

Steve Stage Clause

If one Player/Team has chosen Steve when their opponent has not, previous stage selection procedure is ignored and The Player/Team that has not selected Steve will choose the stage to play on from any legal stage, ignoring any stage strikes/bans.* If both Players/Teams have selected Steve, this rule does not apply.

* If a Player/Team is choosing Steve for Game 1, they must forgo double blind character selection and announce that they are playing Steve, as they are unable to choose or strike stages.

Anti-Stalling Rule

Any player that uses the same special move more than five (5) times without returning to the stage (ledge does not include stage) is stalling, and may be subject to a game loss. This rule only applies to actions taken beneath or outside of the stage ledges.

Enforcement of this rule will be done via replay review to avoid matches being stopped or stalled. A player may call a TO over after the match concludes.

Characters using repeat special moves more than 5 times with clear intent to return to the stage (example: using R.O.B. Up Special multiple times), to progress the game state via engaging with the other player (example: through edgeguarding), or using moves that do not affect momentum (example: using Fox Neutral Special while falling) will not be penalized via this rule.

Planking (Steve Tech)

Planking offstage as Steve is banned, and will result in an automatic game loss. Planking is defined as building blocks below the stage, and mining resources underneath the stage. Accidentally mining up to 2 resources via misinput will not be punished, however. This distinction is done in the event a Steve player may misinput a mine while trying to block off an opponent. Abusing this to repeatedly mine 2 resources off stage will result in a stock or game forfeiture at the TOs discretion.

Building blocks below the stage in order to “block off” / edgeguard characters is allowed.

MLG/PMLG (Steve Tech)

The Steve MLG/PMLG may not be used in any capacity during a tournament match. If a player suspects their opponent has used MLG/PMLG they may save the replay and ask for a TO review. Any competitor caught using the tech will be issued a game loss, or a set loss for multiple offenses during a set.

MLG is defined as using a double jump, then aerial to increase vertical knockback after taking a hit to avoid dying to horizontal blast zones and cancel knockback momentum.

PMLG is defined as using a Phantom Block to negate non-tumble knockback.
