Audiobooks oddity

I've been an audiobook listener for decades, and some of my work is tangentially related to publishing, so I know about rights. This series is the first I've seen that has had four different audiobook narrators: Simon Vance, Patrick Tull, Ric Jerrom, and Robert Hardy. I know that sometimes US and UK publishers will commission their own versions, but I find it odd that the last two are available, and the first two no longer so.

Sometimes a late author's estate may have something to say about such things, but the fact that there are two current versions suggests that they aren't involved with this.

UPDATE: So Patrick Tull's recordings are available in the US, along with Ric Jerrom, but not Robert Hardy. Weird.

Is Harbor and High Seas worth getting?

I first read a half dozen of the novels in the 90s, but didn't read any more. Now I'm setting out to read the entire series; three down so far. Is Harbor and High Seas interesting enough as a companion? And does it work on Kindle (because the paperback is fairly expensive in the UK; it's a US edition)?

I've seen reviews on Amazon saying that there's not much info, and that each chapter has spoilers, so you can't read them before reading each novel; that's fine, I'd read them after just to be more familiar with the areas where each one takes place.

Is there any way to have MacWhisper transcribe and insert paragraph breaks when there are long pauses?

I use MW to transcribe interviews, and I'd like to use it for transcribing voice memos. These are longish recordings - 10 minutes or so - and when I do this, MW just gives me on block of text. I'd like to know if there's a way to get it to recognize long pauses, and insert paragraph breaks.

Or, if MW can't do this, is there anything that can?

Plastic bowl

I've had my Ank for a bit over a month, and have made a half dozen loaves of bread so far. (Dough hook FTW.) I made some cookies the other day, and I must say the plastic bowl is flimsy and cheap. It's unfortunate that they include this, and that a proper stainless steel bowl costs £99. Just saying....

Where do you run your cable?

I like the idea of balcony solar, but where do you run the cable? Do you just stick it in a window opening, allowing hot or cold air and rain to come in? Am I missing something? Are you expected to drill a hole in the wall to get the cable inside?

Is A Sea of Words usable on Kindle?

Many years ago, I read the first half dozen AM novels, and I have decided to new read them all. I'm up to the second, reading on Kindle. I bought the hardcover edition a couple of years ago, but found the paper too thin...

A Sea of Words looks useful, but I've seen some reviews on Amazon about typos and bad formatting in the Kindle version. Any thoughts on this?

Deleting old data?

I had an Oura ring a couple of years ago for about two months and then gave it away. I bought a new one a few days ago, and I’m wondering if the app takes into account the data from two years ago. I saw that I all my data from then to the present and start over. Should I do that, or is that data old enough that it will be ignored?

Stress: no data available

This message makes it seem like I’m not wearing the ring during the day. Is this one of the things that takes a week or a month to start showing up? Or is this “no data available “ message an error?

Who is meal logging for?

I just got a new Oura ring 5. I see there is a feature for logging meals. I’m wondering if this is just for people who eat prepared foods. I can’t imagine it being able to tell from Photos the contents of many of the things I make.

For example, for lunch I made a salad with white beans, honeydew melon, feta cheese, and walnuts. I make most of my own meals, and it would be pretty hard to figure out what many of them contain. I also make my own bread; how does the app know what percentage of the flour is white and what is whole wheat?

i’ve seen meal logging apps that use barcodes for pre-prepared food, but how useful can this feature be with the Oura if you make your own food?

Does the Oura 5 work on pinkies?

A couple of years ago, I bought an Oura ring 3, and kept it for a few months then sold it. I’m interested in perhaps buying a 5 because of some health issues. With the 3, the only finger I could wear it on was , my pinky with the largest size.

I bought a sizing kit on Amazon and it’s the same with the new model. While I can wear a size 12 in my pinky, the 13 isn’t big enough for any of my fingers. it’s not that I have fat fingers, I have big bones and especially knuckles.

I think the older model didn’t work very well on the little finger, and I’m wondering if the Oura 5 works better.

I know there probably aren’t a lot of people who need larger sizes, but I would think there is a market for them. If there was a size 14, I could wear it on my ring finger.

I see that the Oura ring 4 has more sizes; are the top sizes larger than the 5? It looks like they have the same features, and that the only difference is the thickness of the ring. It's also a lot cheaper, but it's as bulky as the 3 was which I found a bit uncomfortable.

What to do after the story?

I've completed the main story after about 60 hours. It looks like all there is to do is to capture all the forts, discover all the locations, etc. I've done all the assassin contracts, and most of the other side quests. Is there anything else I'm missing?

My first AC game was Shadows, and I did NG+, but, in the end, it wasn't very satisfying doing the same things over again. So I don't think I'd do NG+ for Black Flag.

I must say that as much as I liked the story, the final kill was just annoying and didn't bring any closure. I'm not a fan of that kind of immersion break where you fail and die multiple times before a relatively easy kill. I did appreciate the credits stuff though, showing the future for Edward.

New to Ankarsrum; getting used to how it works

I've made about a half dozen loaves of bread in my Ank. Sometimes, the dough is like a doughnut rolling around the bowl; at others, it's like a ball that gets squeezed a bit as it goes behind the roller.

My previous loaf was an eight-grain flour, with some seeds, and I used 66% hydration. It got like a doughnut, was fairly slack but not too much when I finished mixing, and turned out great.

This morning, I made a loaf with white bread flour; this is rare for me, I usually use at least 1/3 wholemeal flour, but I wanted to see how it turned out. The dough balled up and rotated around the roller. I was a bit worried, but I watched as it worked. It looks like the Ank squeezes and stretches it gently when it's like this, and after about 12 minutes, I took it out and the dough felt nearly perfect.

I was worried at first when the dough balled up, but am I correct that that is the way much bread will go through the Ank? That the gentle squeeze and stretch is enough?

Blackbeard's treasure

A nice little quest, the ending especially. I'm one quest away from the end of the main story, so I'm doing a bunch of side quests, and this was different from all the assassinations.
