How do I engage when enemies walk up w/minions?

Started playing Pyke recently and he’s the first supp I’ve played. I don’t really have this issue in lane since I always push for prio and bush control, but in some team fights, especially in mid, I find it hard to engage when the enemies push up w/ the wave. I can’t land a q, so just E’ing in raw feels like suicide. Is there a better way to engage these fights?

The problem might be that I take fights front to back, sitting in the clump of my teammates fishing for a q on the enemy frontline rather than flanking to distract their backline, but even then it’s just kinda impossible to land a q if they’re sitting in the wave. Idk maybe I’m just approaching fights wrong so any advice would be appreciated!

Struggling with late game split pushing/making use of baron buff

I’m a gold 1 jg main trying to make the final push to plat and the only part of the game where I still feel lost is endgame. After getting baron, I can’t seem to figure out what to do to make the most of the buff. A lot of the time my team will run it mid till we get an inhib, but after that we end up in a stalemate till we have to back off, rinse and repeat. I know it’s not good to try to end with just 1 inhib, so I try split pushing but can’t seem to do it effectively. My biggest problems with split pushing are:

-The waves on the sidelines are usually way behind mid, so if a fight breaks out mid, I can’t get there in time.

-in my elo players like to ARAM and perma fight, so even if I want to split push, the rest of my team continues the stalemate in front of the enemy inhib. I know I shouldn’t feel responsible if they die in those scenarios from overstaying, but it’s kinda hard not to when those deaths can potentially lose us the game.

- when I do get a sideline pushed up a good amount, I get scared of pushing forward, hesitant to push 1 more wave in or not. My biggest fears are just past 1st tower on top or bot due to the chance of getting flanked from river, and in front of the tier 2 towers (also top & bot) with the chance of getting killed by enemies coming in from their base, or from their side of jg. Because of these risks, I find myself only pushing 1 or 2 waves till they get to those “dangerous spots” and just wandering around wasting baron buff to find another wave that’s safe to farm.

These issues obviously apply without baron buff, I’m just struggling to close out games in general

Rushing serpents fang over hubris on blue kayn?

So I play a lot of aatrox jg and kayn and recently saw that naayil (top aatrox player) rushes serpents fang instead of hubris on aatrox jg when there’s enough value from the item. Is this worth doing on blue kayn (or any jg that builds hubris) too if the enemy team comp permits it? I see the reasoning for rushing serpents, but is it really worth losing out on so much potential ad by not building hubris?

Should I always go rhaast against a tank jg?

Went blue this game and struggled a lot with contesting objectives, counter ganking, or just any even fight with amumu there (other than a 5v5 fight)

My thought process was to go blue since the enemy was mostly squishies, and that in a late game fight we’d be fine since we had irelia frontline, but that clearly didn’t work. Should I always go rhaast into tanky junglers regardless of the rest of the enemy team comp?

Why is q maxed last? (AD xin)

Both u.gg and op.gg recommend w -> e -> q max even on ad xin. I get that the w still has ad scaling and E gives good attack speed, but is the q dmg that irrelevant early that it’s just used as auto reset & knock up?

The w poke dmg is nice when I gank, but once I E in, I feel like I’m doing no dmg so in an even fight with enemy jg it feels like I’m on the losing side

How do you kill a passive mundo in lane?

Im gold 3 playing aatrox and it just feels shitty to play against a passive mundo who just last hits with q. With aatrox I have no trouble knocking mundo’s shield off, landing w, then hitting q2 as a trade combo over and over again, but I can never seem to kill him with how passive he plays. The wave never seems freezable either since he’s always just last hitting, so it either stays in the middle or it pushes towards him when my q’s hit minions when I go to poke.

I know that if mundo farms even he wins late game, but I can’t find a reliable way to kill him or deny cs to get an advantage.

Do you always build hubris 1st on jg?

I’ve been building hubris into sundered into DD on most games of jg aatrox, but recently I’ve been feeling a little too squishy in my games. I checked naayil’s match history, and he’s been running sundered into mortal reminder most games, rushing serpent’s when needed. So, in a game where serpent’s isn’t needed, would you recommend hubris or sundered 1st? I get that hubris is more of a snowballing item, so what do you look for in terms of snowball potential when you decide to buy hubris?

Stuck in a loop of procrastination, how do I get out?

I have a linear algebra to study for, and I have a lot of content to learn in this week to prep for my midterm. However, the content is hard, and it feels like whenever I sit down to study I hit a wall fast. Then, for the rest of the day I can’t even bring myself to study because my brain foresees the next session being just as hard assuming I’ll get stuck again, so I do something to not think about it, like go on my phone. Then I end up being on my phone for hours trying to “destress” when in reality I’ve just increased my workload for the following day which just builds up the stress, any advice on getting out of this loop?

Builds when your team is squishy/ enemy is tanky?

Saw a post on here yesterday about a bruiser graves build along the lines of unreal -> black cleaver -> sundered -> tank items with fleet rune setup. A lot of ppl said bruiser graves is just worse than crit graves or not worth running, even though it feels like graves has some frontline potential. Recently I’ve been playing a few games where my team has no frontline or maybe only 1 while the enemy has 2 tanks. In games like these, is it worth running a bruiser build to frontline and let my other squishies carry the dmg, or should I stick to Dark harvest crit and try to solo carry these games?

Not sure what to build and when to build

Im silver 2, and I picked up aatrox recently (top and jg), and am extremely confused with his build path. To start, u.gg shows 3 different builds for Aatrox top, and for jg it’s just the first one but hubris instead of shojin and more emphasis on building serylda’s & maw instead of tank items.

I wanted to learn when to use each build, so I found the flowchart (pic 4) made by Looca about a month ago. It seemed pretty straight forward, in that you’d build tankier when you’re ahead, and more damage when behind or when you’re the win condition. However there were a few things I didn’t get, like how he built omnivamp boots when u.gg data shows no one building them and always buying tabis instead, or like how he pretty much always builds voltaic and never shojin, which is the complete opposite to the u.gg build.

I then watched a vid Naayil posted a few days ago looking at this build and he said the builds make no sense and seem pretty random. Now idk if he means that in general or only for high elo, but nonetheless he seemed to not like the build.

Overall, there are a lot of contradictions with all these builds and sources so I’m not sure what direction to go and when. I’ve been leaning jg a little more where I’m going hubris -> sundered -> Deaths dance, then finishing with endless hunger, seryldas and maw in whatever orders needed. It’s been working but I know it could be more optimal with some changes depending on matchups and team comps, so I’d appreciate some help in that direction.

How often do you even pick riven?

I started playing riven recently and man it feels like I should never pick her. I get that her whole thing is getting a lead and being very good at her, but it feels impossible to do that when she has so many hard counters, and since you play blue side half the time (no last pick), half your games are just hard counter matchups.

I don’t mean for this to sound like a complaint post, but how is riven good at getting leads if it seems like half the time you’re playing into a hard counter? Is the only solution to play perfectly?

When to build tank vs dmg?

I picked up mundo recently and very quickly learned that he isn’t the tank I thought he was, and more of a damage based juggernaut/bruiser. So, I was wondering when to build tank items (spirit visage, deadman’s, thorn mail) vs attack items (Titanic hydra, bloodmail). I originally tried building both spirit visage & deadman’s after warmog and heartsteel, based off alois’ guide he made abt 10 months ago, but noticed my damage fell of pretty hard late game. I also tried no resistance items and built Hydra & bloodmail after core items and while the dmg is good, I wasn’t nearly as tanky as I thought I’d be.

How do I decide what to go with? I feel like I’m kind misunderstanding mundos role of being in between a tank and bruiser, to where I’m expecting more bulk but also more dmg and can’t find the balance

Struggling against late game split pushers

I recently picked up ambessa top and being in bronze, most players can’t counter her so I tend to do very well in lane. However, sometimes even after bullying my enemy top, I get outscaled in late game when they’re playing someone like nasus or yorick.

When im ahead and my entire team is behind, i try to shove and roam to help with drag or the lower lane towers, and save tp to protect top. But with tp being on a Long cd and champs like nasus scaling infinitely as long as im not in lane, i feel like im always running back and forth and the game falls apart. I’m not sure if i should be helping my team who’s behind while nasus ends the game, or stop his split push while my team continues to be behind

Help with quick cast

So I recently picked up ambessa and before her I never considered enabling quick cast without indicators. I noticed that with regular quick cast, I’d occasionally cancel my e or q by pressing right click to early when trying to dash after. However, when I turn off indicators, it turns them off for all abilities, including R, which i still wanna be able to hold and see its range. When you press the little arrow under R in the keyboard settings, it changes it to the mode where after pressing the button, it won’t cast until you press left click again, but I was wondering if there was a way to have just R on quick cast with indicator (as in you can hold R to see range but it casts the moment you let go of R)

I also considered how quick cast no indicator could cause me to miss my q1 sweet spot or q2 range, but maybe that’s just me being new to the champ and unfamiliar with her range, so I was wondering what settings others use

What do you do against ahri mid game?

So I just played a game as sylas vs ahri mid. I started off fine with a solo kill and maintained a cs advantage, but once she hit 6 she just shoved and kept roaming. I get that this is what you’re supposed to do as ahri, but what do I do if she has superior wave clear and roam mobility? It felt like I lost my lead extremely fast as I’d constantly be pushed in while she was making plays across the map

Is there a lore reason doom uses the hand cannon?

I mean it’s a very short ranged weapon so I don’t really see him using it over his fists when he’s up close. Even if he’s out of range for hand-to-hand combat, he’s extremely mobile and can close gaps quickly and just keep punching. It makes sense for the game but honestly I can’t think of an instance where doom would use the hand cannon.

For those who have taken China102R

How well are you expected to be able to read (in Chinese characters) prior to taking the course?

I took china101R this winter term and ended with a 90. I found the course pretty easy but recognizing characters was a struggle long term. I could do it in time for assessments but within a week or two I’d forget everything other than the most common characters. So, I was wondering if I’d be fine to take china102R despite having forgotten most of the chracaters I learned from 101R

Can’t figure out how to beat twitch

I’ve heard he has a weak early game and that you need to play aggressive, but when I do so he just goes invis and gets free damage off. If I try to capitalize on him walking up, I just get cc’d by his support while he walks away and repeats the process. I can’t push the wave forward because of his invis but if I play safe he can poke under tower. Not sure what kind of play style I should have against twitch, especially if I don’t have an engage support

How responsible am I for my teammates mistakes?

I’m bronze 2 and just played an adc game and while my lane went well, our top was quite the opposite. My garen fed the enemy mundo pretty hard early on till he became a split pusher that lost us the game. They blamed the lost matchup on jg “ignoring top” and that he got ganked 6 times with no ganks in return.

As someone who mains top, I checked the replay to see what went wrong and I noticed that this garen rarely placed wards and played way too agressive, trying to perma shove waves even under enemy tower, or losing big chunks of hp trying to break the built up crystals on tower.

I get that this is an obvious lack of fundamentals on Garen’s end, expecting ganks when he’s constantly pushing a full health mundo under tower, or getting surprised that he’s getting ganked while pushed up with no vision. But I feel like it’s partly my fault for not noticing these simple mistakes because I’m too focused on my lane. Should I just leave these players be, or is it worth shifting my focus every so often to tell them to play back and follow fundamentals?
