This sweet baby came in with a prolapsed rectum, it has been said to have been like this way for 4 days.

She has been started on pain meds but needs immediate rescue to get her the medical care she desperately needs from a vet clinic.

She is a sweet girl but so scare right now and needs a HERO!!

Bio

Red is looking for a patient adopter who understands that shelter life can be overwhelming. While he's still adjusting to his new surroundings, he's taking everything in at his own pace and would likely benefit from a calm home where he can build trust and confidence. With time, consistency, and gentle encouragement, Red has the opportunity to let his true personality shine.

Medical Observation

7/19: Description of concerns: Was doing shelter observations and the dog was not moving much, would not respond to being called out to other than turning it's head and sometimes not even that. There was also a very excessive amount of drool coming from both sides of the mouth.

Shelter Observation

7/17: did not handle, had to be catch poled by field officer, kept jumping and being mouthy.

7/19: Doesn't come when you call out to them and doesn't bark. just overall not responsive to anything.

7/20: When approaching kennel pet was QAR laying on the floor next to bed. I knelt down and opened the kennel curtain, I tossed Red a few treats. He was uninterested at first, sniffed them but didnt eat them, came to front of kennel and greeted me. Offered treat directly and he accepted, then ate the rest in his kennel. He has soft sweet eyes, sniffed my hand and took treats from me, allowed me to pet him just a little through the kennel bars. Tail stayed tucked but he took treats, engaged in interaction and stayed at front with me until I left.

Rocko is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Rocko is a social dog but presents as highly anxious. He has been observed licking the walls of his kennel, and when placed in a crate, he will bite at the crate bars and pull at his bedding. More recently, Rocko has been grabbing staff leashes and mouthing their clothing when they attempt to remove him. Medically, Rocko has dental disease. Rocko came in the care center as a stray; due to this, his behavioral history in a home environment is unknown. Rocko has displayed increasing arousal around kennel handling, including leash biting, jumping at the kennel door, and attempts to push out when the kennel is opened. He has reportedly mouthed or grabbed handlers on several occasions, including biting a handler's sleeve and more recently biting and holding a handler's finger. Outside of the kennel, Rocko is social with familiar handlers, enjoys petting, and walks with mild to moderate pulling. Rocko is available for rescue through one of our new hope partners; we recommend positive reinforcement training to improve his impulse control and handling.

Bite history: In the care center the handler was unlocking Rocko's kennel, Rocko was jumping on the kennel door so they placed the lock a little higher when Rocko jumped up and bit and held the handler's right pointer finger. The bite broke skin. This bite broke skin, bled, and left the area swollen and bruised. The handler cleaned and bandaged their finger. The handler stated he has a kennel tag that states to use cheese to leash Rocko but there was no cheese available. The handler went back to Rocko's kennel and used wet food to leash and remove Rocko from kennel for his walk.

06/10/26 Rocko is introduced to a novel female while off leash. He readily approaches the gate with a neutral frame and will sniff the female, loosening further and rubbing his body along the fenceline. The female is uncomfortable, briefly sniffing him before turning away.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:

7/16/26: Rocko is at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body as the handler approaches. As Rocko sits down, the ahndler clicks their clicker and rewards him with a treat, which he takes with moderate pressure; this is repeated several times. The handler slowly presents their hand to him, and Rocko sniffs and licks it. The handler tosses treats inside his kennel and ends the interaction.

7/1/26: Rocko is laying down at the front of his kennel when handler approaches. Handler offers a treat and Rocko gets up, does body shake and gently takes it. He is leashed with a treat lure and taken out of the kennel. Handler prepared treat lure on the floor and Rocko got distracted and exited the room with no issues. Rocko pulls hard in the hallways and attempts to jump on few pop-up crates but is redirected with treats. In the elevator he is panting a lot but sits next to the handler with neutral body. Once outside he immediately relieves himself and continues walking next to the handler with mild pulling. He will stare at other dogs (his body gets tense and he starts constantly licking his lips) and try to pull towards them but handler is able to distract him with recall. Rocko doesn't react towards other people passer by. Rocko is social with handler and allows petting. When they stops he sits next to them and leans for more pets. His body is neutral most of the time with soft face. During returning handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Rocko back into his kennel with no issues.

7/1/26: It is reported from ASC that during PM walk Rocko would trash on the leash while coming out of the room; they weren't able to redirect so they had to straight arm and muscle him out of the room. Besides that he didn't give any issues during the walk and returning.

6/27/26: Rocco is at the front of his kennel with neutral body when handler approaches. Once kennel unlocked, he jumps on the door attempting to break out. Handler uses a treat lure and is able to distract and leash Rocco. He pulls hard in the hallway and pacing side to side in elevator. Once outside Rocco walks slightly ahead of the handler with mild pulling. He will hard stare at other dogs but handler is able to distract him with treats. Rocco doesn't react towards other people passerby. He allows petting and responses when handler engages with him. His body remains neutral. During returning handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Rocco back into his kennel with no further issues.

6/26/26: It is reported on the behavior board that Rocko grabbed onto the handler's sleeve "for a split second".

6/25/26: Rocco is observed to be licking the kennel wall towards the back of the kennel. The kennels are being cleaned on the opposite side of the where Rocco's kennel is located.

6/18/26: Rocko is at the front of his kennel with a wiggly body, high pitch barking at the handler. As the handel attempts to leash him, Rocko bites the leash; they then lure him with treats and leash him. While exiting, Rocko pulls towards the kennels. On the street, Rocko walks ahead with mild to moderate leash tension; he doesn't react to people. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Rocko to his kennel.

6/13/26: Canine Behavior noticed that Rocko is licking and biting at his crate bars, and is repeatedly pulling his crate cover into his crate.

6/12/26: It is reported on the behavior board that Rocko is jumping and mouthing at the leash on walks.

6/8/26: Rocko is lying down in his crate (he recently had a long walk) and gets up and wags his tail with a loose body when the handler unlocks his door. He is easily leashed and walks slowly to the street. He allows his harness to be clipped. He ignores other dogs. He sniffs around and relieves himself. He is brought back inside and returns to his crate slowly but willingly. The handler tosses a treat in and he mouths their hand when trying to get it.

6/29: Easy Going, Social (People), Loose/Wiggly Body. Princess immediately jumped up with her tail wagging when she saw me in front of her kennel. She was easy to leash up and bring outside to the play yard. Outside in the yard her body was loose and wiggly, her tail wagged almost the entire time we were together. There were some people in the other play yard and princess went over to investigate and as they spoke to her, she wagged her tail. When I petted her, she wagged her tail. She enjoyed being close to me. She had a happy friendly demeanor.

💔 Maxine is a frightened senior who appears to have endured far more than any dog should.

Because of her medical condition, only a limited behavior evaluation could be completed. Even though she was trembling with fear, Maxine still chose to approach handlers and greet them. She was easy to leash and walked slowly outside, trusting the people around her despite her uncertainty.

She was so weak and uncomfortable that staff had to carry her part of the way to the play yard and back to her kennel.

🏥 When Maxine arrived, she had reportedly been stuck between fences. Staff also noted that she appeared underweight, dehydrated, had severely overgrown nails, and was having difficulty walking. She showed instability in her back legs, and veterinarians have begun pain medication while evaluating possible arthritis, degenerative joint disease, an old injury, or another orthopedic condition.

❤️ At 14 years old, Maxine deserves compassion, comfort, and a soft place to rest—not a shelter kennel. She needs a home where she can recover, feel safe, and spend her golden years surrounded by love.

🏡 Maxine urgently needs an adopter, foster, or rescue. Senior dogs are often overlooked, but they have so much love left to give.

💔 Brooklyn didn’t fail people. People failed Brooklyn.

At just 10 months old, Brooklyn had never been outside for a walk before arriving at the shelter. Think about that. During the most important months of a puppy’s life, when they should be discovering the world, building confidence, and learning that new experiences are safe, Brooklyn was never given that chance. His surrender reason was listed as “animal circumstance – litter.” Instead of being properly socialized and prepared for life, this young dog entered the shelter terrified of a world he had never been allowed to experience.

Now he’s the one paying the price. The loud shelter, unfamiliar people, and constant activity are overwhelming for a puppy who was never taught how to navigate them. Despite that, his owner reported that Brooklyn was social with both adults and children in the home, proving that beneath the fear is a dog capable of loving and trusting.

Brooklyn doesn’t deserve to be judged for the circumstances people created for him. He deserves patience, kindness, and the opportunity to finally experience life the way every puppy should—with guidance, encouragement, and love.

Brooklyn is a 10 month old LMB dog. He is seeking a new home due to too many animals in the home. He has prior experience with adults, children, cats, and dogs- but only the ones in his prior home.

For a New Family to Know: Brooklyn is a very active and playful dog! He loves fetch. Brooklyn is also very affectionate. He can usually be found in the living room or in his crate, where he is comfortable up to 7 hours. Brooklyn allows for bathing, brushing, and nail trimming. He is a loving guy who enjoys giving hugs and kisses! Brooklyn knows sit, come, and no. He loves treats.

In the Care Centers, Brooklyn is extremely fearful. He was noted to pancake, grow and hard stare when staff attempt to remove him from the kennel. When he is removed he remains fearful and anxious, pancaking on walks. His owner stated, Brooklyn never went outside for walks. He is social with the children and adults in the home. Brooklyn should go to a home through a New Hope partner that can manage his behaviors using positive reinforcement.

Upon intake Brooklyn was very calm but low growled when staff attempted to greet him. He had no reaction to dogs or people generally, and fell asleep while waiting. On the walk back to his kennel Brooklyn pancaked and became intensely fearful. Behavior team was needed to get him to his kennel.

ASSESSMENT NOTES
Date of assessment: 7/3/2026

Summary: Brooklyn is highly fearful and was observed to pancake, sometimes refuses to walk far and when he does he remains fearful and anxious. Due to these behaviors he will not receive a handling assessment.

Summary (5): 07/03/26: Brooklyn is at the front of his kennel laying down as handler approaches. His tail wags and he stands exuberantly, accepting a treat before allowing leashing and exiting kennel with handler. He stops at the front of the room but follows handler when coaxed forward, he curls into handlers legs and follows them closely out to the yard. Once outside he sniffs around and relieves himself, Brooklyn nuzzles into handlers leg throughout the walk seeking social interaction and laying on handlers lay while they sit on the bench. Handler remains observant of Brooklyn's body language and disengages contact if his lick lips or shows discomfort but Brooklyn continually solicits pets with a soft expression and wiggly body. After walking around the yards for a bit he is brought back inside and returned to kennel without issue.

7/3/26: (Prior to this handler's walk, another handler attempts to take Brooklyn out but he refuses). As this handler approaches, Brooklyn slowly approaches the front with a neutral body; he is easily leashed but he doesn't exit the kennel. The handler speaks to him with a soft voice and drops treats into his kennel, but he slowly eats the treats and refuses to exit. The handler applies leash pressure to bring him out, but Brooklyn refuses. The handler then stands to the side to allow Brooklyn to come out on his own, but after a few minutes, he continues to stay in his kennel. The handler closes the kennel door and removes the leash with a hook. The interaction is ended.

7/2/26 (PM): Brooklyn is lying down and then stands up with a neutral body; the handler tosses treats into his kennel and he slowly eats them. The handler leashes Brooklyn; at first, he doesn't exit on his own, but with a soft voice, the handler is able to coax Brooklyn and he slowly exits. Once getting to the exit, Brooklyn stops walking; the handler props the yard door open, steps outside, and speaks to Brooklyn with a soft voice, and he slowly goes outside. The handler brings Brooklyn into the playpen; he briefly sniffs around and then looks up at the handler as they speak to him. When the handler sits down on the bench, Brooklyn sits in between their legs and lays his head on them. The handler pets Brooklyn on his head and back. He gently paws them and they receive more pets. After a few minutes, the handler slowly walks Brooklyn indoors, clips their leash, and returns him to his kennel.

Summary (6): 07/2/26: Brooklyn is at the center of his kennel as handler approaches, he crawls forward toward the front to accept treats offered by handler, tail wags and he stands near the front exuberantly as handler unlocks the kennel door. He dodges the leash for a moment but when placed over his head carefully he allows leashing and walks with handler out to the hallway. He stops near the door but is coaxed forward when handler kneels down, Brooklyn crawls up to handler and follows them to the stairs where a staff member is then able to close the door behind them. Brooklyn walks with handler slowly staring momentarily at the people and dogs in the yard but he does not react to them and instead leans into handler as they walk, he walks into a play yard with handler and as handler sits Brooklyn jumps onto handlers lap leaning in and seeking pets. He licks handlers hand and handler stops petting him whenever this happens, handler is also observant of whenever Brooklyn lip licks and disengages contact from him until he chooses to reengage. He is loose bodied and lays with handler for a while, then slowly walks around the yard approaching dogs he passes inquisitively but eventually being coaxed away by handler. He walks for a while and walks past a staff member though he is slightly tense. He is eventually returned to kennel and interaction is ended shortly after.

Summary (7): 07/01/26: Brooklyn is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, his posture is slightly hunched and he looks tense toward handler. Treats are offered and he begins slowly accepting them with some hesitancy. Brooklyn allows leashing after a bit and is walked out of the kennel with handler. He is tense and his ears are low. He pulls toward the dogs he passes inquisitively but he is eventually coaxed forward, once at the threshold of the room he stops. Handler also stops and attempt to use treats to coax Brooklyn out of the room but they are unsuccessful so handler allows Brooklyn to retreat back into kennel. He exits kennel after a moment and attempts to exit again but is again unsuccessful. A hook is used to retrieve the leash from him and interaction is ended shortly after.

6/29/26: (Intake Behavior) Behavior was requested for assistance. Brooklyn was observed to be pancaked in the hallway. It was reported that he was growling at handlers. The handler takes the leash and is able to coax him down the hallway with moderate leash pressure and verbal coaxing. Once in front of the kennel, handlers attempt to muscle Brooklyn in. He pancakes and presses his paw against the opening of the kennel. He then begins to thrash with an open mouth. A secondary handler is able to place a belly band on him. They attempt again to place Brooklyn into kennel. They are unsuccessful. Brooklyn then balks again outside of the kennel. He has a tense body, hard stares at the handler and begins growling. Brooklyn continues growling as more help is requested. A third handler approaches, and Brooklyn is placed on a double leash. The three handlers are able to muscle Brooklyn into kennel using a high level of leash pressure. A hook is used to remove the leashes.

He gently accepts treats from the handler’s hand and allows himself to be leashed with ease. Atlas is then brought outside for a relief walk. While outside, he maintains a soft, neutral frame and walks on a loose leash alongside the handler. He relieves himself multiple times and spends the outing exploring the neighborhood, taking in scents from the grass and trees. When the walk is complete, Atlas is brought back to his kennel safely without any issues. HE LOVES LOVES TOYS AND BALLS! 💔 Atlas Axel is a 96-pound dog carrying the weight of shelter stress on his shoulders.

Found as a stray, Atlas Axel arrived at ACC with no one to tell his story. Whatever his life was like before, it is clear that the shelter environment has been incredibly difficult for him.

The constant noise, unfamiliar people, and lack of stability have made it hard for Atlas to settle in. But outside of his kennel, there are glimpses of a different dog. On walks, he enjoys exploring the world through his nose, investigating scents, and taking in his surroundings at his own pace.

Atlas isn’t asking for much. He needs a quiet place where he can decompress, feel safe, and learn that he doesn’t have to be on guard all the time. Many dogs who struggle in the shelter begin to show completely different sides of themselves once they are given the opportunity to relax in a home environment.

At over 96 pounds, Atlas may be a big boy, but right now he needs patience, understanding, and a chance to leave shelter life behind. With time and stability, he deserves the opportunity to discover what it feels like to truly belong.

Atlas Axel was surrendered into care as a stray, so his past behavior in a home environment is unknown. He has escalated to higher-level warnings when handlers attempted to remove him from the kennel. Once out of the kennel, he remains avoidant. Due to all noted concerns displayed in the care center, the behavior department recommends that Atlas be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Atlas to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward-based training only is advised when introducing him to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Atlas Axel presents with outside of the care centers.

Summary: Atlas Axel has escalated to hard staring, charging the kennel door, and snapping after slamming into the kennel door. He dodges leashing and remains stressed. Due to his escalations a handling assessment is not conducted.

06/20/26
Atlas is introduced to a novel male while off leash. He approaches the gate with a forward frame and elbows locked as he sniffs the male. Atlas will loosen slightly as the male solicits play at the gate. Atlas walks away and reapproaches to greet again.

Summary (6): 6/18/26: Atlas Axel is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He retreats to the back and grabs a toy as the handler unlocks the door. He then re-approaches the door and drops toy for treats. He would quickly eat the treats and back away as the handler attempts to leash him. He then approaches again and is able to be leashed as he quickly eats more treats. He then pulls hard on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, he pulls hard towards a ball that he finds on the ground and he picks it up and carries it to the yard. In the yard, he fins another ball and then grabs that one as well. He then lays down while chewing on the two toys. He then stands up when the handler goes to try to walk around and he becomes tense and begins to growl while hovering as he stared at the handler. The handler tosses treats and he has no interest. He then pulls to the exit gate and handler is able to exit the kennel. On the way back to the building, he accidently drops the toy balls and they begin to roll down the ramp. He begins to pull hard towards them to chase after them. The handler then exits outside of the ramp and walks down the side walk back to the building. Before entering, he notices the ball again and begins to pull towards it. Another handler nearby is able to pick it up before he enters the building. He then pulls hard on the way back to his kennel and quickly grabs the toy that is in kennel when he enters. He then drops the toy and grabs his bedding and flips it to the opposite side of his kennel. Then starts to move around his kuranda bed with his snout as the handler locks the door and walks away.

Summary (7): 6/14 (PM): ACS staff report that when they approached Atlas Axel's kennel, he was quiet. Upon opening the kennel door and placing the lead inside, Atlas charges, slamming into the kennel door and snapping at their lead. Due to his intensity, they lock the kennel door and give him some time to settle before making another attempt. After about 10-15 minutes, the ACS attempts to offer Atlas Axel treats and toys to coax him while attempting to leash, but he displays the aforementioned behaviors. Due to this, they are unable to remove him from the kennel. Later on in the night (a few hours later), another ACS attempts to leash Atlas. He is able to be leashed but when returning inside from his walk, Atlas begins balking. Once back in his kennel, Atlas begins lunging and hitting the kennel door.

6/8/26: Atlas Axel is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and he then pulls hard on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, he continues to pull hard towards would towards trees to mark his territory. He has no reactions to dogs or people and has no interest in treats. He pulls hard on the way back to his kennel and has to be muscled inside due to not wanting to go back in.

6/7/26: Atlas Axel is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and he then pulls hard on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, has a neutral body frame as he walks next to the handler. He would pull hard towards trees to mark his territory. He has no reactions to dogs or people and has no interest in treats. He pulls hard on the way back to his kennel and has to be muscled inside due to not wanting to go back in.

6/4/26: Atlas Axel was at front of kennel with a neutral body as handler approached. Atlas is very leash avoidant and was not interested in treats. Handler was finally able to leash him as he started to push on kennel door. He was taken for a street walk. While on walk he walked next to handler occasionally pulling moderately. He stopped to sniff and investigate several times. He was returned to kennel with no issue.

06/01/26: Atlas Axel is laying down in the back of his kennel and initially remains there while hard staring at the handler with visible whale eye as the handler speaks softly to him. Atlas then suddenly jumps up and charges toward the front of the kennel, colliding with the gate and snapping. He continues to avoid the leash as handler attempt to leash him, Handlers offer treats and high value food items in an attempt to coax him forward but Atlas remains avoidant. Due to his continued avoidance, handler utilize a lasso technique, which successfully allows him to be leashed on the first attempt. Once leashed, Atlas is brought out and taken for his walk without any further issues.

Recommendations comments: No children (under 13): Due to the behaviors observed during his stay in care, we recommend that Atlas Axel be placed in an adult-only home.

Place with a New Hope partner: Atlas Axel has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Recommend No Dog Parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Atlas Axel has shown during playgroup (see DOG-DOG SUMMARY), we feel that he should not visit dog parks. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Atlas Axel associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats.

🚨TRIPOD MAMA & HER 7 NEWBORN PUPPIES SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED MONDAY 7/6 IF NO RESCUE & LOCAL FOSTER STEPS UP🚨

Nimue & her 7 tiny puppies must have a rescue hold by 1:00 PM on Monday, July 6, or they will lose their lives. They urgently need a local foster, rescue backing, & pledges to make their rescue possible.

💔Nimue has already survived so much.

At some point in her life, she suffered a traumatic injury that left her with only part of her right front leg. Despite that, she survived on the streets. While trying to survive as a stray, she gave birth to seven newborn puppies.

Now this little family is facing euthanasia.

Vets say Nimue tries to walk on her partially amputated leg, causing her to lose her balance and fall forward. Once her puppies are weaned, they recommend a full amputation to help improve her mobility and quality of life.

But first, she has to survive long enough to get that chance.

Even with her disability, Nimue is nursing all seven of her babies. They are only days old and cannot be separated from their mama or transported at this age.

Her puppies have never known anything except being curled up beside their mother.

She survived a devastating injury. She survived life on the streets. She gave everything she had to bring seven puppies safely into the world. Please don’t let this be where her story ends.

Bio

Starfish is a gentle female dog who arrived at the shelter unable to use her back legs. She does have deep pain perception, and there is some movement in her hind legs, giving hope that with proper medical care she could improve. Starfish has also been noted to have an enlarged heart, which adds to the urgency of her medical needs.

Despite everything she’s facing, Starfish remains calm and trusting, looking to people for comfort and reassurance. She deserves a chance at proper care, safety, and a place where she can heal.

If do not hear back, will need to sedate/radiographs.
