When approaching kennel she was laying in the back of the kennel and when i went to feed she went in ther corner but

when i reached in to pet her she started to snarl and then tried to bite me but she didn't bite me

tense in kennel, pushed herself to the back of the kennel with whale eyes and lowered head. i opened and stepped in and

began to baby talk she slowly walked over to me with a slight tail wag. walked on a semi tight leash but was very flinchy.

stayed at the run gate. was able to leash and place back into kennel.

On 5/27/26 A5779814 climbed out of its enclosure and had an incident with the 3 year old Dachshund causing a little wound to the right shoulder.

The behaviors described today reflect the dog’s responses in a shelter environment. It may differ significantly from how they behave in a home.
Arlo (Intact) was at the front of the kennel with a calm demeanor when the runner arrived. He allowed himself to
be leashed with ease and then exited the kennel on his own. However, Arlo was barking toward his neighboring kennels,
with a tense posture along the way. Arlo was then allowed into the yard, where he stood with a stiff posture as he was greeted by some of the dogs. Arlo then
lunged toward one of the dogs but stopped when the handler intervened with a correction tool.
He was unable to coexist peacefully in the yard and was then returned to his kennel; however, firm leash guidance was needed as he refused to enter on his own.

💔 FOUND BROKEN AND ALONE
On July 2, this small stray was reportedly hit by a car and left unable to stand on his own. He was found near Fire Station 40 and brought to BARC for emergency care.
Medical evaluation revealed devastating injuries:
🚑 Non-weight-bearing on the left rear leg
🚑 Mid-shaft fractures of the left tibia and fibula
🚑 Fracture of the left ilium (pelvis)
🚑 Multiple abrasions and trauma from the accident
Despite his injuries, he has received pain medication, antibiotics, fluids, and supportive care while awaiting further evaluation.
But now his time is running out.

🆘 RESCUE ONLY — FOSTER NEEDED TO SAVE HIM 🆘
This little survivor needs:
❤️ A rescue willing to step up
❤️ A foster home where he can recover safely

📝 Shelter Notes:

6/22/26: During intake and workup, Captain stood with a wagging tail until blood collection was attempted, at which point he flinched and turned away quickly. Staff attempts to restrain him resulted in thrashing and screaming, preventing completion of heartworm testing.

6/25/26: Captain initially showed a worried face and hesitated when staff attempted to leash him. After being allowed outside to potty, he returned to staff with a wagging tail and walked back cooperatively.

6/25/26: During an evening attempt to administer eye medication, Captain lunged and barked through the kennel. Staff were able to medicate him during the morning, but he remained vocal and showed wide eyes in the evening.

6/27/26: Captain stood at his kennel door with a high wagging tail, open-mouth smile, and neutral body posture. He leashed easily and walked on a semi-loose leash to the runs and a loose leash back to his kennel. He returned to his kennel willingly for treats and remained quiet throughout the morning.

6/28/26: Captain was lying down in his kennel when approached. He walked on a semi-tight leash to the runs and, upon returning to his kennel, began vocalizing as other dogs around him were also vocalizing.

6/29/26: Captain was moved as a "move adopt" dog. Staff were able to leash him in the outside runs, where he ignored treats and walked with a tucked tail, dilated pupils, and a tense body. After being placed in his new kennel, he began barking, so enrichment was provided.

7/2/26: Captain was constantly vocalizing during morning feeding and cleaning. When approached, he displayed a flinchy body posture, a partially tucked tail, and dilated eyes. Once leashed, he walked on a forward leash but did not pull hard and continued vocalizing while in the outdoor kennel.

🚑 Medical Notes:
• 2-year-old intact male weighing 61 pounds
• Heartworm status unknown
• Presented with ocular discharge from both eyes, worse in the left eye
• Diagnosed with conjunctivitis, possibly secondary to entropion, and treated with erythromycin ophthalmic ointment for 10 days
• Had superficial healed scabs on the medial axilla and elbow with no redness, discharge, or swelling; no further treatment required

💙 Captain appears to be a sensitive dog who is struggling with the stress of the shelter environment. While he can become fearful and vocal in the kennel setting, staff have also observed him displaying friendly body language, walking well on leash, and seeking reassurance. He urgently needs a calm, patient environment where he can decompress and feel safe.

One shelter note described Toby following a handler after being encouraged with baby talk, then settling down and resting against them once he felt safe.
That dog is still in there.
The shelter environment is simply overwhelming him.
Like many frightened dogs, Toby struggles when stressed and has reacted strongly around other dogs. What he urgently needs is a calm environment where he can decompress and feel secure.
He is also being treated for a cherry eye and conjunctivitis—conditions that are manageable and treatable.

6/30/2026: When approached, Olive was lying down. She slowly stood and moved forward. She left her kennel at a slow pace and bear-crawled all the way to her new kennel.

7/2/2026: During a move adoption, Olive was evasive in the run and had to be cornered so a leash could be placed on her. She moved extremely slowly with a low crawl and was too large to carry, so staff waited for her to walk at her own pace. When she completely froze at the doorway, she had to be lifted over the threshold.

You do exist. Although I haven't the data to honor you individually, you are not forgotten.

My group almost saved Molly. The adopter didn't know to contact us rather than BARC, who just brushed her off. It was no problem getting a rescue to tag, but by the time everything was worked out, it was just past the deadline. BARC refused to cooperate.

Sending a direct message to more than one is not a bad idea. We're seldom all on at the same time. If you see someone commenting on a post that they're willing to foster or adopt, please use a direct message to point them to us or us to them. There are simply too many comments for us to read them in a timely fashion.

A rescue with tagging rights at BARC is necessary for any out-of-state adoption, and we can connect fosters and adopters to them.

We know the foster and adoption applications are long and difficult to fill out, but one has to be done before the rescue will even consider tagging. Please don't waste precious seconds by trying to talk us or the rescue out of it.

Behavior (Stray Bite Case - Scratch, Quarantine Ends 7/5/26 at 8:30pm) Was scratched by a dog on her property. She stated that the dog was originally on the street and she had it checked for a microchip but could not find any; she indicated that the dog was very sweet last night however it "playfully" bit/scratched her and her bf. This morning it became aggressive and was trying to go inside their home.; she stated it scratched them again and that the skin was red and broke skin on both of their left arms.

Approaching kennel dog was jumping at the front of the kennel with a loose wiggly body, i placed the leash he walked with me to the quarantine run, was bale to remove leash, he nudge my hand seeking affection

Austin has this quiet way of locking eyes with you that makes it feel like everything else disappears for a second. He doesn’t look away, just steady, focused, almost like he’s trying to understand what’s going on around him and where he fits into it.

He shares a kennel with William, the very fearful boy, and somehow in the middle of all of that stress and noise, Austin still holds onto this calm, observant energy. He’s young, about a year old, and just sitting there waiting while the days pass him by.

It’s hard to understand how a dog this striking and aware is still overlooked. Please share him everywhere. He deserves a chance to leave this kennel alive.

6/20/2026: Wiggly body with constant tail wagging and playful hopping while walking on leash.

6/22/2026: Happy, wiggly body with a soft facial expression. Walked easily on leash and kept his kennel clean.

6/24/2026: Initially timid with whale eyes and pancaked on the floor. Slowly gained confidence, army-crawled forward, and continued walking while remaining gentle.

6/25/2026: Fast wagging tail and soft, open expression. Walked well but was constantly jumping around and occasionally stopping in front of the handler.

6/26/2026: Friendly greeting at the kennel with loose, wiggly body language. Playful and energetic outside, occasionally pancaking on the floor but easily encouraged to continue walking.

6/27/2026: Happy, wiggly boy with a soft expression. Walked well on leash but repeatedly jumped on the handler, making it difficult to walk.

6/28/2026: Walked while pulling in multiple directions with high excitement. Ignored treats and stayed focused on the handler.

6/29/2026: Easy to leash and accepted treats but remained very energetic, jumping often, panting, and whining while wagging his tail outside.

6/30/2026: Tyler was very excited on leash, jumping, circling, and panting heavily while focusing more on people than treats. He settled noticeably when walked by a volunteer and was friendly, affectionate, and welcomed petting.
