Best Housing Option Near Campus?

I accepted my offer to Georgian as an option and now last minute I'm deciding to go. I'm #15 on the Georgian residence waitlist so i think I'll get in. I don't know much about residence and dining and stuff. My mom thinks georgian residence plus meal plan is the simplest and best but I really prefer to cook my own food and im gluten intolerant so idk how many choices ill have on a meal plan. I think residence is a private room in a shared 2-room suite? I wanna have the option to have guests overnight and im guessing thats not allowed or a roomate may not be comfortable with it anyway. And given its the official georgian residence, im concerned its overpriced. Could anyone give me insight or recommendations? I'm trying to spend less than $1000 per month on rent. I haven't calculated how much rent costs per month on campus. Also my program has me doing only placements and not classes I believe for Winter term, so I won't need to live in Barrie for Winter so can i get out of rent in any way? Any experiences with other housing places? Is a 1 bedroom worth it. I'm not gonna have a car so I need something close to campus.

Lot of questions sorry, but if anyone can give general advice or answer a specific question I really appreciate it <3

how do i overcome shame over graduating 2 years late

lately ive been feeling super ashamed that im graduating 2 years late. i did have pretty bad health issues for the first 3 years but i don't like explaining that to people and i dont think people can imagine how it was for me. also had a good amount of stress from severe family conflict. also had to work through school (i know a lot of people do) but even after i got the health issues resolved--i couldnt manage 5 courses and took 3-4 each semester. and its not like im in a hard stem program, i did a psychology major. i even retook a couple courses for a higher grade in grad school prereqs but my sub-gpa ended up being under the minimum to apply in canada (for a very competitive program) so i applied abroad. the thought of finishing school in a different country at 27 is making me feel horrible. i havent even landed a job since finishing school in april.

edit: im 24 right now, will be 27 when i finish a grad school program, also i finished the degree in april but convocating this fall

can i get a uoft emergency grant if i am convocating in fall?

can i get a uoft emergency grant if i am convocating in fall? i had a $550 expense caused by the school (indirectly, but it's fully the school's fault) that went to waste (long story) and i am already facing financial hardship.

OV$--can they do a refund or partial refund?

so i needed advanced functions to transfer programs at uni (i'm already an upper year in university). my department said it couldnt be waived and sounded super adamant about it after i waited all summer for them to review my case. So i signed up for OV$ cuz i had 1.5 months to provide proof of completion at this point. 7 or 8 days (can't remember) after i enrolled, a higher up at my uni unexpectedly said she just waived it. I already did 2 tests in the course, and they make you tick a box when signing up saying I understand theres no refunds. Do u think they can give a refund or a partial refund under compassionate grounds? who do i talk to? i dropped $550 for nothing and im not gonna do any more of the course. im experiencing financial hardship and this situation was out of my control and not my fault. it's not OV$'s fault but would they be willing to give the money back? they probably make so much money anyway

Why cant i get a restaurant serving job with experience

I have 4 years of restaurant serving experience (in between part time and full time in summer and part time through fall/winter during university). ive been applying in person and online since june. i know i missed summer hiring in april-may but still... and now i have to get myself to interview again for fall hiring but i'm afraid everything filled like last week.

i guess i have bad timing and bad luck but it also feels like i need to get referred to get a serving job now. i do have experience so i didnt think it would be this hard. i'm taking a gap year before my masters and i have to make money. im starting to think maybe im not attractive enough to be front of house? like what is it cuz I've applied to like 50 restaurants. Most times i walk in the manager is not available to speak...does my resume get thrown into the trash cuz no one has called back

How to get in-clinic job with a bachelors? (non CSD--not a thing where im from)

I'm taking a gap year before my masters. i have an undergrad-major in psych, minors in linguistics and education studies. a lot of my psych degree is courses in psycho-linguistics and cog sci and child development. Can't really be an slpa/cda as it's a post-grad certificate where i live to have that role officially--unless it's a sketchy-ish company and the only work available is in-home therapy and I don't have a car to drive from home to home. i don't see reception/admin or any support-role postings for people with a bachelor's degree. Should i try cold-emailing clinics? I really wanna get my foot in the door and I'd rather be in the field than serving temporarily to make money. for context i live in ontario canada

Any advice for a recent grad trying to get involved before i get my masters? All advice is appreciated:)

How to get job in clinic as non-clinician with a bachelors degree

How does OV$ work

I'm already in university but i need to finish MHF4U with just a passing grade/the credit. i dont even wanna watch all the lessons but is it required in order to proceed in the course? all i see are video lessons is there also a textbook?i have until the second week of september to provide proof of completion to my university. the only work i wanna put in is on the assignments. if i fail the exam can i still pass the course--like what if i literally get a 0 on the exam but still get a 50 overall in the course--will they say my exam was not an honest attempt? i'm waiting for them to approve my prereqs so idk if i can start any coursework right now. this isn't fundamental to my program it's just a prereq cuz the program is competitive i guess.

can i finish it in 5 weeks?

Tricky situation for program requirement, can the dean make a decision

I asked my department for a substitution or equivalency for one course in lieu for a required course for my program under compassionate grounds (complicated situation) and i wanted to graduate this Fall. They said they never do a waiver--but they didn't address the substitution request. If i take the case to the dean's office (i know i can't directly email the dean), would they consider my case and potentially provide any solution? Can i email someone? should i go in person to speak to someone? i also tried a petition with the registrar and it was just cancelled cuz its "non-petitionable" this was a long process and i contacted the ombusperson office as well but they told me to wait till my petition gets answered and for when the department gets back to me (the department just got back to me today). this process of figuring this out has taken all summer so i am panicking right now as its urgent :( no might mean no from my department, but again im concerned my specific request was not considered. and if they meant no to the substitution anyway, it honestly feels a bit unfair and super procedural. i'm not sure if anything can happen even if the ombudsperson may turn out to agree that its not fair

any advice is really appreciated. this is high-stakes because I already have post-grad offers which i will lose if i am unable to graduate this Fall

Graduates of the CDA program--how is your career going?

May be entering the program this year and want to hear how grads are doing. I heard Georgian sets you up better than other colleges and that we get first pick on placements. What placements did u get and did it help you land a job. Have employers ever expressed preference or opinions on georgian grads? What setting are you in and if you don't mind answering what is your hourly wage or salary. Dm me if you want! or answer in this post :)

Any nurses considered being an SLP

Speech language pathologist. You're probably more familiar with what they do in hospitals naturally, or you may know more about the career as a whole . I'm considering both fields and wanna hear from nurses who may have been deciding both before becoming a nurse. I'm debating more school-based speech pathologist vs any kind of nursing. a big difference is that slp seems more in demand cuz we don't have many schools in this country. whereas for nursing it seems like a lot of people go to school for it but unfortunately nurses are being cut from hospitals--which i know can change with politics in the future...

need $12 000 in dental repair after neglected childhood- not asking for money just looking for resources or affordable orthos and perios in the GTA

So i had a tooth/cavity near the back on my bottom jaw pulled when i was 12 and never got a spacer or implant or whatever for that gap. I am now 24 and my bottom teeth have severely shifted and my top teeth have become noticeably crooked and my gum bone got weak in that missing tooth area, probably messed up my jaw too and overall symmetry of my face. Since then, every time i had a cleaning the dentist would say that will become a big issue and i'll need braces. One even said my teeth will fall out and i'll need dentures eventually if nothing gets done. then i'd tell my mom and actually beg my mom to do something, but she didn't acknowledge it and would sometimes gaslight me saying my dad has a missing tooth and nothing happened. Throughout my teenage years I showed her that my bottom teeth kept getting more crooked A dentist said my teeth would've been perfect if this had not happened. This year she finally acknowledged that i need braces only after seeing how bad my teeth are at this point. She still blamed me for "not showing her earlier"--which is not true. She said she'll pay (technically my dad will pay). I got myself checked at two orthodontist clinics recently and the cheaper option is bone graft surgery +braces on bottom+ invisalign on top and will cost about $12 000. The other option is braces on top&bottom+bone graft surgery+implant which would cost around $19 000. When i showed her the estimate for the $12 000 option, she freaked out on me and said im getting myself ripped off. i dont think my parents are willing to pay for this and if it's on me it will derail my plans for the next 2 years cuz i was gonna start a masters in order to get a stable career, but I already can hardly afford it even with some loans. It will also leave me in a deeper financial hole that will impact the rest of my 20's. Does anyone know an orthodontist and periodontist or organization that can provide discounted dental services in cases where it was clearly child neglect? Or any advice that can help me in this situation? I'm on my school's insurance till the end of summer but it does not cover any of this anyway. One orthodontist that checked it tried to make me feel really bad about this and I know its bad but its not my fault :(. Any dental experts here--are there any temporary alternatives to prevent things from getting worse for now---so then when I'm making a professional salary in a few years I'm in a better position to save up to afford all the treatment? Thank you if you cared to read all this. I feel ruined and helpless.

edit: planning treatment gets more complicated as I might be going overseas for my masters in 5 months

edit: uoft dental clinic would be a 2+ year wait for ortho screening

Anyone have experience with the uoft dental clinic?

i have like $12 000-19 000 (depending on different ways to treat me) in dental repair needed due to childhood neglect. I'm a student with 2 more years of school in my younger to mid 20s and can't afford this. The uoft dental clinic was recommended as they can provide reduced fees which is great. I would need to go to the orthodontic clinic and periodontal clinic. I saw that the ortho clinic is closed for july and august and the periodontal clinic has reduced hours for the summer. Anyone have experience or knowledge about the clinics regarding waitlist/wait times and cost? I appreciate any info. I read that there can be up to a 2 year wait for the first orthodontic appointment but I'm willing to wait if it is the only affordable option for me. I'm trying to get bone graft surgery by December ideally though.

edit: nevermind the ortho clinic seems to be open for summer
