Algae starting to break breakout… what next?

Algae starting to break breakout… what next?

So my tanks been going for about 5 months now, and It seems I’m starting to have a green algae breakout. I have a few hypothesis. 1, I recently got a new light, much brighter and more powerful, and it’s in for 12 hours a day. 2, I recently planted a sword (which is struggling, I’ll probably buy root tabs soon). Maybe I kicked up some waste that was stuck in the substrate and that caused a spike? My ammonia is at 0 and my nitrate is somewhere between 0 and 5. The tank has anubias, Amazon sword, weeping moss, a pothos trimming, and giant duckweed. I assume I should lower how much the light is on for?

First pothos! (Marble queen). Any tips?

Also how long until she’s long and viney? I would love to have pothos vines going up my walls and all over my room! One of the main reason I got her lol!

He’s finally using the anubias I bought him as a bed!!

When I got this giant anubias I was really hoping he’d use it as a bed (instead of sleeping on the bottom of the tank lol). It only took a few months, but he’s finally using it!!

Light deficiency?

Not the big dead one, that’s been there since I got her. But the rest of the leaves are looking kinda crappy. It’s a light issue right? I have a new grow light just for her arriving tomorrow. I just want to confirm that it is a light issue, and that I don’t have a bigger problem on my hands.

Wow! When I got giant duckweed I was never expecting it to be this pretty!

Don’t mind the dying plants, I’m trying to balance the needs for all the plants in the tank and figure out how much fert is needed. Look at the colour!

Stone road mall betta

Im not an expert at all. but I’m pretty sure the betta that stone road mall has at their help center are not in proper setups. I mean it’s literally just vases with coloured gravel and plastic plants. Has anyone told them this isnt suitable?

Impulse bought a vfs, I think I’m doing okay!

I’ve had her less then a day. Can’t wait for it to grow more!

I impulse bought a Venus fly trap.

Where do I got from here? Where’s the best place to look for advice? Did I screw myself with this? Is it hard for beginners? Do I have a chance of taking care of her? I have a hypoestes, money tree and a lot of aquarium plants that are doing pretty well. I have some hopes for this.

Main leaf on hypoestes water prop dying but new ones growing, it’ll be fine right?

Also why does this thing require a makeshift terrarium to prop??? (Old glass bottle filled with humidity and a tube inside filled with water and the trimming)

I’m annoyed of being limited to ephiphytes like anubias and moss and java ferns, could I plant swords and pearl weed in regular aquarium sand if I use root tabs and ferts?

I’ve tried to propogate my hypoestes in dirt and water. The dirt ones died pretty fast, so did the water ones. They’re acting like they’re not getting enough water. I had one success but that was in a terrarium, which dried out so now the roots are in water. I’m hoping that can come back. I heard these things where super easy to prop

I recently swapped from a hob to a sponge filter and didn’t want to have the bacteria on the filter media to die. I want it alive for atleast another few months until I can use it to quickly cycle my next project. Currently it’s in an old jam jar with water and some giant duckweed on top. Could I add a single bladder snail to produce ammonia to feed the bacteria then use the floaters to consume the nitrates? I know the answer is likely gonna be know but it can’t hurt to ask

My polka dot plant is getting pretty long (I’m happy with how much it’s grown) where should I cut it and replant the stems to make it bushier?

u/SweetTart7231 — 22 days ago

I had an old takeout box that I was storing moss in for this project (future jumping spider home). But I think I overwatered it, it starting stinking and now turned yellow. I removed it from the box and put it in the terrarium with a drainage layer, can it come back?

I heard these propagated very easily, but it’s dying??? What’s the issue? It’s right beside my normal polka dot plant and that one’s doing fine.

I have this deer bone, I believe to be a femur. I don’t have many uses for it so I want to make some scales for a knife. How hard will this be with bone? Also I’ll probably do all the whitening and degreasing after I get the main shape made because it will be easier with a small chunk then the whole bone
