On a Sunday afternoon, Townfall is quite cozy

I usually play in the evenings after work with the lights off, and the gameplay feels tense and the atmosphere can sometimes seem miserable. But on a Sunday afternoon, with sunlight peaking through the blinds just slightly, the experience reminds me of weekends playing Silent Hill 2 alone as a kid, and it’s quite comforting. Anyone else have similar experiences with this game?

So, Total Wine opened next to my house, and…

I’ve been paying $25 for a six pack of Abita at Rocket Fizz. It’s only $9 here.

Any fans of hardcore/metalcore? This EP opens with a Bukowski quote

If you haven’t heard this EP, it is a concept album about a man who falls in love with a ghost and kills himself to be with her, only to end up in hell, alone and afraid.

Ventura vibes were unreal

Show started with She’s Green and was an awesome surprise for everyone. The audio in the Ventura Music Hall is superb and had me really excited for Narrow Head and Turnover’s set. I really enjoyed the track “Meddle” and I think everyone should stream their new album when it comes out next week.

Narrow Head went on and basically played a perfect set. I could go on about their drummer but dude was in the pocket the whole night. The distortion sounded so crisp on those guitars. There was a great push pit during Gearhead, which got everyone amped up.

Turnover’s set started with two new songs, Nightjar and My Hand Is a Curtain. They sounded so good! Obviously, the Peripheral Vision tracks were amazing. You can hear everyone singing along including me and my partner. I really enjoyed “Take My Head” into “Little Bees Don’t Bite.” There were some small circle pits and people were dancing from there on out. They played a slightly different version of “Plant Sugar” that felt slower and gave me Joy Division vibes since Austin sang in a lower register. They also jammed the hell out at the end of “I’m Up, I’m Up,” and I wouldn’t have minded if they played for a few more minutes, honestly.

I was little sad they didn’t play “Most of the Time,” but “Intrapersonal” is a great close to an all-time setlist. Can’t wait to see them again with Nothing and Trauma Ray. Who else was there last night and what did you think?

Tried this at Luke’s in Ventura, CA

Moonglade - I was pleasantly surprised that the place my friend group picked had a craft soda root beer in stock. Heavy on the cinnamon notes, and very sweet. I actually enjoyed this quite a bit along with my sandwich. The other posts seemed to point out low carbonation but I didn’t have that problem. Maybe a new formulation? All in all, worth a try! 7/10

This song/interlude/whatever you want to call it is super underrated

I used to skip this as a kid in the early 2000s cause it was slow and I just wanted to hear Beg for Me, but now it sticks in my brain.

Best taco guys for events?

Looking to feed potentially 100 people some tacos for a big party. What vendors would you recommend in Bakersfield? Maybe potato options for vegetarian/vegan but mostly chicken and carne. Simple street tacos. Thanks!

Finally found a bottled Barq’s

Out of the commercial brands, I will always reach for a Barq’s. Found the bottled version at a Rocket Fizz in South Carolina.

I was a bit disappointed to see it still had high fructose corn syrup rather than cane sugar. Not much sets it apart from the canned taste other than it staying consistent from top to bottom. Still has tha refreshing and reliable Barq’s flavor.

The texture glass bottle with the printed-on label is a nice touch, so I’ll definitely be keeping it as a house plant vase.

Overall, 8/10.
