Fjord will likely be eligible for IFF

I asked my friend Christina Jeurling Birro of Pop Culture Confidential who’s attending Cannes (I’m very jealous) and asked her about Fjord’s chances to get a nomination for Best International Feature Film.

”There’s quite a lot English, but not above the quota for the award” was her answer.

So you can probably keep it in your predictions.

Where in your country do you normally have the washing machine?

I live in Sweden where we usually have it in the bathroom or in apartment complexes "tvättstugor", a room you can book to wash your clothes, if you don't have space in your own apartment.

I visited a friend in Ireland and was very confused when I discovered that he had a washing machine in the kitchen. Seems very unpractical.

Name a non-cgi performance that so transformed the actor that you completely forget who it is.

Zara Larsson might be Sweden’s last real musical export

Sorry to be a debbie downer but I’m so worried about my country’s future in the music industry

Since the right wing government took over in Sweden 2024 they’ve started cutting state funded rehearsal spaces for bands, music educations and for anything cultural that used to get funding from the state basically.

It was through state funded rehearsal rooms ABBA was created. Also Ace of Base, Roxette and Ghost.

In the 80’s Max Martin got his start in the Swedish social democratic system and started his music career through state funding. He’s behind the biggest hits of Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Adele, NSYNC, Ariana Grande and many more. And then we also have Adam Anders and Peer Åström who produced every song in Glee. And Shellback. And Ash Pournouri. Etc.

Those hit songs exists because of Swedish social democratic politics. Because Max Martin got free reign to be creative and play around in an expensive studio he wouldn’t ever have access to in today’s climate. There might be a musical genius somewhere in Sweden who only gets to play around in garageband and never learn professional production, because of our current government.

Same could be said about Robyn, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and lately bands like Ghost and Viagra Boys. They all got their start from state funded places where they could rehearse. None of these come from rich families with garages or other funding. Everyone of these amazing musical acts are self made and got realized because of state funding.

Recent research has came to the conclusion that Sweden got 8 000 less concerts per year since 2024 when the right wing government took power because of their eviscerating of culture budgets. We have a new election this fall. If the social democrats doesn’t win it will get even worse.

Most of this is because of far right racist party Swedish Democrats. Their main thing is to ”get things like they were back in the day”. But they only point fingers to muslims and foreigners. They don’t give a shit about actual Swedish culture. Because they’re racists.

This might mean that Zara Larsson could be our last international musical export. Because no young musicians will get a similar opportunity unless they come from an extremely rich family.

It’s always been worse in the US. I know. And that is kind of the point in this post. We should aim for a new 60’s and 70’s that is more globally socialist after Trump and Putin die. We shouldn’t let toddlers like them and Ulf Kristersson in Sweden be in power ever again. Everyone should actively work towards this, in every country. This is a global issue. If we want an alive culture we need to fight. We need to educate our young boys that misoginy isn’t the answer. That looksmaxing isn’t the answer. And the sexiest thing in the world is to become a feminist who would never do something out of consent.

Talk to your dads, talk to your brothers, talk to your male friends.

To create a better world, we need to believe in it.

Similar to this thread I'm looking for songs mentioning food items, but specifically songs where they're not in the title, because it's for a trivia question. Having them in the title makes the question too easy). For this reason the song in question should be recognizable for at least 30% of a general audience, so nothing too niche.

Example: Dean Martin - That's Amore, mentions pizza.

If you don’t check the subreddit and answer this unironically, you are officially a poopy butthole. This is confirmed by the text in the upper left corner. Please answer everyone answering the title alone as their right names: A poopy butthole.

To my body text bros: What’s your favorite female performance of the 1990’s? Mine is Kate Winslet in Sense and Sensibility. I think she should have won an Oscar for that.

EDIT: Everyone deletes their comment when they realize. But I do not miss anything.

I'm a big fan of (the higher up, the bigger of a fan I am):

  • Ariana Grande
  • Olivia Rodrigo
  • Sabrina Carpenter
  • Pinkpantheress
  • Tate McRae
  • Dua Lipa
  • Zara Larsson
  • Blackpink
  • Caroline Polachek
  • Eden Ben Zaken
  • Anna Zak
  • Dolly Style (this is a children pop group, but I can't help it, they produce BOPS)
  • Sigrid
  • Angéle

I like but don't listen a lot to or only like a specific album:

  • Charli XCX
  • Karol G
  • Chappell Roan
  • Doja Cat
  • All Blackpink solo projects

Nostalgia pop stars I've listened to a lot but not so much anymore:

  • Britney Spears
  • Madonna
  • Christina Aguilera
  • Mariah Carey
  • Lykke Li
  • Robyn
  • Toni Braxton
  • Sade
  • Kylie Minogue

I've liked a song or two, but they're generally not my cup of tea:

  • KATSEYE
  • Madison Beer
  • Taylor Swift
  • Beyoncé
  • Rihanna
  • Billie Eilish
  • Miley Cyrus
  • Carly Rae Jepsen
  • Lana Del Rey
  • Katy Perry
  • Adele
  • Addison Rae

Would appreciate any recs based on my taste! Foreign language very welcomed.

I have no personality and would like to know edgy opinions from strangers on the internet, preferably no movies from before 2020 and that a lot of people agrees with.

Like ”Everything Everywhere All At Once is actually bad”, ”Oppenheimer is boring” and ”that guy with the mustasch in Triump of the Will has a good point”.
