Grunny slippers!!!

I have “Gaia Online” saved on like 5 different secondhand sites/apps, and I have for years. On Monday (my birthday!) morning, I got a notification that these had been posted on Ebay! I had never seen these before in all my years of merch hunting, so I jumped on them so fast! They’re definitely a bit small, but not terribly so. AND they were brand new! Happy birthday to me!

Not to brag, but I touched the oldest rock in Michigan yesterday

I went to an informative presentation/class/thing at the Haslett Library last night on the geology of Michigan and I thought it was interesting so I thought I thought I’d share!

My first new bong in almost a decade!

I realized that I’d been smoking out of the same bong for… 9? years. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t anything special and I decided it was time for a new one. So happy birthday to me~ (I turn 34 on the 17th)

Side note: the bong game has changed SO MUCH in the past 10 years. This would have been like, twice the price it was (it was $90) back in the day! It’s a whole new world.

I found a paper guillotine for my boyfriend’s mom after she passed away.

My boyfriend’s mom died a few weeks ago. While my boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years, I’ve been close with his family for about 15 years due to me being good friends with my boyfriend’s sister. At one point their parents took me in when I was a total mess and kept me from being homeless. His mom was a parent to me when I really needed one, and always believed in me. She was lovely. ❤️

A couple months before she passed, she’d asked me to be on the lookout for a paper guillotine for her while I was thrifting (second slide), and I took that as a quest. A few days ago I wrote “I’ve been having such great luck thrifting lately, I wonder if ____ is blessing me” in my journal, and the next day I found a paper guillotine at Goodwill for $5.49.

My boyfriend said I should buy it in her honor, and that it’d be nice to have it when we move in together. So I did. I think I want to “name” it B. Her name started with B, but it’s also a Boston paper cutter, so I think it works!

I’m not typically a believer in “signs” and I don’t really believe in an afterlife. But I’m hard pressed to deny that it feels like a sign! I also saw a butterfly as I was leaving the thrift store (she loved butterflies). I know it’s probably just serendipity, but it made me smile (though it also made me sad).

Sellers messaging after liking an item

I’ve been using Depop, Mercari, Poshmark, and Ebay for years. I finally jumped on the Vinted train because of the free shipping, and it’s been great! But I noticed it’s a regular occurrence for a seller to message me after I like an item, usually something along the lines of “are you interested in the item?” and I always ignore it, because if I am interested, I’ll reach out or buy.

Just curious if anyone else noticed it/had a reason for it.

A jeans win (x2!!!)

Measurements: 5’4”, 24” waist, 105ish lbs.

Depop was doing free shipping for awhile, so I decided to try out some jeans that are more than I can afford new. I had some success with the BDG Logan jeans and the BDG Kayla low-rise jeans, both in a 24. The Logan jeans are great because they have an adjustable buckle in the back to tighten them! Both pair are a little long for me (32”), but they also come in a short (30”) or a long (34”). I’ve been wearing them with my platform sandals.

It’s been so long since I’ve had a pair of jeans that actually fit and actually like, now I have 2!

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that different washes can apparently run differently in these jeans (😒) so I’d check reviews and measurements on secondhand listings (or if you’re like me just buy them and hope for the best lol).

Added my own flair ✨

Retail brand: Nail Reformation. The pink sparkle was already on the nails, but I added the gold glitter myself!

Grief brought us closer when I was so scared it’d hurt us

My boyfriend’s mom died last week. I’ve been friends with the family for almost 15 years, and had my own special relationship with his mom outside of her being my boyfriend’s mom (she took me in when I was on the verge of being homeless in my early 20s). She was truly such a special and wonderful lady.

My boyfriend and I were both fortunate enough to not have much experience with death before this. I was worried, because you hear all the time that grief is a big test for couples, and it can tear people apart. Neither of us knows how to handle this. He’s never lost a mother, I’ve never had to support someone through something like this.

It’s been so hard. A couple days after she passed I took time off work to be with his family. I was present when they were at the funeral home making arrangements, I helped put together photo boards that showed her life, I helped the men pick out their funeral clothes, I sat and cried with them at the funeral. The whole time I felt imposter syndrome, but they said that I’m family and I always have been.

I was worried my boyfriend would push me away since he tends to hermit when he’s feeling down, and I thought I would say or do the wrong things and make things worse. But he’s been so appreciative of my love and support, and it means so much to me that he’s wanted me to be there with him and that he’s been vulnerable with me.

It’s been such a horrible time, but it’s also been so full of love. Instead of grief pulling us apart we’re closer than ever. It’s comforting to know that even during the darkest of times we’ll still always have each other.

“excellent condition”

one of the worst jump scares I’ve ever had upon inspecting a depop package. 🤢 they were only $5 so not really worth the hassle of a return. i’m going to wash them and hope for the best… but ugh.

I gave her a 1 star review, obviously.

bruh

I’m not even mad I just thought it was funny. And they actually bought it after I accepted!

Some people just want to feel like they’re getting a deal and I’m not going to trip over 50 cents.

I have a problem

I was half hoping free shipping would end today so my wallet would be safer. 💀 My sister is judging the amount of packages I’m getting and I’m sure my mailman hates me now.

I bought a painting done by a lion and my nails matched!

I work at a zoo and we sell paintings done by the animals. I have a little collection, and I picked up a new one done by our resident Lion. I loved the purple/blue color, then a coworker pointed out that it matched my nails!

Picture of the artist included for tax.
