Honest feedback on IRON GUARD: Day Zero?

Hey everyone! I'm one of the developers of IRON GUARD: Day Zero and would love some honest feedback from anyone who's played it, or even suggestions from other devs who've experienced something similar and managed to turn things around.

We have 84 ratings so far, with around 17% being 1-star, but almost no written feedback explaining why. I'm genuinely trying to understand what we're missing.

Day Zero is the flat-screen version of our original IRON GUARD VR game, which has 187 ratings and a 4.5+ rating. We also deliberately priced Day Zero low because we wanted more people to give it a chance and hopefully discover the VR version too, which is quite a different experience.

So, if you've played Day Zero, especially if you didn't like it , but even if you did , it would be really helpful to understand what doesn't work from your POV.

Controls? Gameplay? Difficulty? Performance? The first hour? Did it just not meet your expectations?

Not looking for praise, just genuinely interested in learning if there's something we could do to turn this around.

TIA, cheers!

Heard these are some of the best VR games out there 👀

We didn't say it — the players did. 😅

Anyway, if you're looking to try something a little different, the IRON GUARD games are on sale.

And don't let the “tower defense” label fool you. These aren't passive TD games. You're constantly shooting enemies yourself, supporting your turrets, deploying heroes, managing the battlefield depending on the game mode and enemies, and making decisions every wave.

There are moments where you can breathe… but not for too long. 😅

If you like shooting and strategy games but want something more active and hands-on, give them a shot. They're pretty different from the usual VR or TD games — IMHO 🙂

Do Horizon+ players usually leave ratings/reviews?

Hey everyone,

I'm one of the developers behind two games that are part of the Horizon+ "Indie catalogue", and I was wondering if this is just a norm for subscription games.

We've had a lot of Horizon+ players, but almost all of our ratings and reviews seem to come from people who actually bought the games. Since the Horizon+ audience is much larger (MAU), I thought there would be more feedback/reviews.

Just curious, if players on Horizon+, ever leave ratings or reviews? Or is that something mostly for games purchased?

If you don't leave reviews, is there a reason? Maybe the prompt or UI is easy to miss, you just move on to the next game, or reviewing subscription games just isn't something players think about. Or do you think being part of the Indie catalogue makes a difference? 👀

Not asking for reviews, just genuinely trying to understand if that's the norm or if there's something we're missing.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Our VR tower defense series is currently on a big sale on PlayStation, also would love to know which cover art do you prefer?

We're a small indie team and both of our PSVR2 games are on sale right now

• IRON GUARD (50% off)
https://store.playstation.com/concept/10003472
• IRON GUARD: Salvation (30% off)
https://store.playstation.com/concept/10014836

One thing we've always debated internally is which artwork players would prefer, the darker, more grounded look of the original, or the brighter, more action-heavy style of Salvation.

Would love to know what everyone here thinks!

Do We Need More Curation or Vocal Leadership for Indie Games?

Hi all, it was definitely one of the highlights for our small indie team this past week, such a wonderful surprise and a honor to have been acknowledged by a legend like Shuhei Yoshida on X. 🙏

He's always been a champion of indie developers and smaller studios, which got me thinking:

Who else (past or currant) in the gaming industry has similar impact on supporting indies across any of the platforms?

Can executives even do that personally today without any issues? Or would it be helpful for players, especially given the current challenges facing gaming and VR?

It also made me think about the early days of Meta's VR store curation. It could take months to get approved, which was frustrating for many developers, but it also ensured a certain quality bar and helped shape first impressions for new VR users.

Today, do players mostly rely on reviews, creators, recommendations from friends, or would some platform curation help when choosing what to play? Is there value in having industry leaders champion great experiences that are not always AAA?

Cheers!

From VR to non-VR: We just launched our tower defense game on PS5

Hi everyone,

One of the devs here of IRON GUARD: Day Zero, which recently launched on PS5. https://store.playstation.com/concept/10019267

The game originally started life in VR, and we recently adapted it into a non-VR experience while keeping the core gameplay intact.

It's a sci-fi tower defense game where you build defenses, manage resources, and directly support your base using a combat drone. We wanted to combine traditional tower defense strategy with more active gameplay rather than having players only watch from above.

Some features:

  • 30 campaign levels
  • Multiple tower types and upgrades
  • Active drone combat alongside base building
  • Leaderboards
  • Achievements + Easter eggs 😊
  • Multiple difficulty levels

Would love to hear what fellow TD fans think. Happy to answer any questions about the game, design decisions, or development.

Cheers and happy gaming!

Can We Build a Community-Driven "Top 2026 - 4.5+ Rated VR Bundle"?

As one of the devs of IRON GUARD: Salvation, every week it feels like we're talking about studio closures, poor sales, platform uncertainty, or why VR isn't working. Meanwhile, there are dozens of genuinely excellent VR games out there that many players still haven't discovered.

So rather than complain about it, I'd like to try doing something positive.

Meta recently added a new feature for multiple developers to collaborate on bundles, and I'd like to explore creating a community-driven bundle called:

Top 2026 - 4.5+ Rated VR Bundle

The idea is simple: bring together up to 20 highly rated VR games (4.5+ stars on the Quest Store), offer them at a compelling discount, and give players an easy way to discover some of the best experiences VR has to offer.

VR Developers

If you have a Quest game with a 4.5+ rating and would be interested in participating, please reply with:

  • Game name
  • Quest store link
  • Whether you'd be interested in joining a developer discussion group

No commitments yet, I'm simply trying to gauge interest and see whether we can assemble a strong lineup.

VR Players

If you were putting together a "Top 2026 - 4.5+ Rated VR Bundle," which games absolutely deserve a spot?

Would you buy something like this?

More importantly, would a community-curated bundle help you discover VR games you might otherwise miss?

I'd rather spend my energy promoting great VR games than debating whether VR is alive or dead.

If you're interested, developer or player, leave a comment and let's see if we can make something happen.

Thanks all.

After two highly rated PSVR2 titles, time for flatscreen, we're launching IRON GUARD: Day Zero on PS5

Hi everyone,

After releasing two highly rated PSVR2 titles, we're bringing the IRON GUARD universe to PS5 players for the first time with IRON GUARD: Day Zero, on June 19th.

Day Zero is a flat-screen version of the original IRON GUARD VR game, updated and improved for PS5. Our hope is that it introduces more players to the IRON GUARD universe and maybe sends a few (or many 😁) down the rabbit hole toward the VR games as well.

We're a small independent team, and after spending the last few years focused almost entirely on VR, we're excited (and a little nervous) to see how PlayStation players respond to our first non-VR release.

One thing we're genuinely curious about, how do players feel about games that start in VR and later come to flatscreen? They're often very different experiences despite sharing the same world, gameplay, and mechanics.

Would a bundle that included both the VR and non-VR versions of a game be interesting to you, or would you only ever want one version?

Store page:
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/10019267

Would love to hear your thoughts, and thanks to everyone who continues to support indie developers, whether in VR or flat-screen gaming.

Cheers!

All IRON GUARD VR games and Bundle on Sale

Hey everyone 👋

Just wanted to share that the IRON GUARD games are currently on sale on PlayStation Store for PSVR2 players, and our upcoming flat-screen adaptation, IRON GUARD: Day Zero, is now officially listed as well.

Store page:

https://store.playstation.com/en-us/search/iron%20guard

Day Zero is essentially a flat-screen adaptation/remaster of the original IRON GUARD VR game. The main focus was bringing the gameplay over to traditional platforms, making it work well with the DualSense controller, and improving/reworking some gameplay features and levels along the way.

We also added difficulty settings and included music tracks from both IRON GUARD games.

The core gameplay and overall experience remain very close to the original, but we hope it gives flatscreen players a good way to experience the game universe as well and eventually helps introduce more traditional players to VR as well.

We’d genuinely love to hear feedback from the community. And if Day Zero looks interesting, wishlists definitely help support the project while we march towards release ❤️

Happy to answer any questions as well.

Hey everyone,

We wanted to share a surprise update from our team.

After our two VR titles in the IRON GUARD franchise, we’re excited to officially announce:

IRON GUARD: DAY ZERO for PlayStation 5.

Wishlist page is now live here if anyone wants to check it out:
PlayStation Store Page

The battle against the rogue terraformers continues with a special flat screen adaptation of the original IRON GUARD experience, rebuilt for PS5 players with more detail, more action, and a richer console-focused presentation.

This is a huge milestone for us as the IRON GUARD family continues to grow across platforms.

Would love to hear thoughts from both VR players and PS5 players on expanding a VR-born franchise into flat screen console.

Thanks for your support
