The drinking culture here is getting really hard to deal with in my late 20s

honestly just needing to vent because living here is starting to really wear on me. I love the river and the town but being in your late twenties in a place where literally every single social activity revolves around getting obliterated on the square is just exhausting

It feels like you cant even suggest grabbing food or a hike without someone turning it into an excuse to day drink. the pressure is just wild. A buddy of mine finally hit a wall with the whole central texas party scene and ended up going up near dallas to discovery point retreat a few months ago just to completely disconnect from the culture and get his head straight. Seeing him actually functional and calm now really put into perspective how chaotic our normal weekend routine actually is

I dont even want to go completely sober necessarily, Im just so tired of the expectation that we have to be pounding beers at zelicks every friday to have a social life. is anyone else feeling completely aged out of this town or am I just turning into a grumpy old man?

How to prevent brain fog mid workout and post workout crash? (High sweat/cardio)

Advice needed please. I am an amateur who plays intense racket sports (padel) three to four times per week outdoors in London. This means plenty of sweating in changing conditions.

Usually around the 45 minute mark, things start falling apart for me. Not only physically, but my brain shuts down completely and I become unfocused and my reaction times are slowed. In addition, my recovery after each match is relatively poor.

Neither water nor sugary sports drinks help much. Looking for particular nutrients, aminos or whatever else to supplement pre/post workout to keep my brain functioning and stay focused without the shakes or sugar crash. Anything I should be looking for? Appreciate your suggestions.

pulling the trigger on this thing and honestly kinda nervous

been running my little sandwich shop for about 2 years now and it's been going pretty well tbh. nothing crazy but enough to pay the bills and keep my staff happy. been putting off the legal structure stuff because it always seemed like something i could deal with later.

well later is now i guess lol.

met with a lawyer last week and he quoted me like 1500 just to form an LLC and I nearly choked on my coffee. like I get that they need to make money too but that's basically my whole profit margin for a month gone just on paperwork.

has anyone here used an online formation service for their restaurant? or am i better off just biting the bullet and paying the lawyer?

also what about the registered agent stuff? do I really need one or can I just use my own address for that?

Is anyone else finding it impossible to track down reliable Gas Safe engineers in London lately?

Every single year it it's the same exact headache trying to sort out my property's annual safety check and basic maintenance. I swear finding a decent and independent Gas Safe engineer in London right now feel like winning the lottery. Last week I had two different guys from those big trade directory sites completely ghost me andthe one who did show up spent twenty minutes trying to convince me my perfectly fine flue needed a total replacement. It just feels like a lot of independent contractors are either overbooked or just trying to invent problems to inflate the bill.i ended up getting an actual acredited local firm to handle the boiler service in London setup this time with wpj heating just to avoid the cowboy drama ,which thankfully went smoothly since they actually employ their own staff. But the overall market is just exhausting to deal with lately.

How are other landlords vetting people these days without people losing their mind? Do you just stick with the massive corporate national providers and pay their ridiculous premiums or did you find a reliable local network that actually turns up on time?

Any Sydney welders got advice on shielding gas?

Gday, i've been mucking around in the garage after work welding up some simple steel frames for a mate's shed extension. Nothing pro level, just 8mm plate and box section, trying to keep the beads neat on the horizontals. My current gas mix has been pretty average, bit of spatter and the odd pinhole when i push the speed. Thinking about switching to coregas. Anyone in Sydney tried them? worth it for hobby work or nah? Only welding a few hours most weekends so don't want to waste money. Any tips on good settings for mild steel or other gases that work well?

23, planning a move to the Gold Coast from the UK and lowkey panicking. Need some real advice

hey everyone. i’m 23, just wrapping up my uni degree here in Scotland, and my parents are heavily pushing me to get out of my comfort zone and spend a year or two abroad. after looking at a bunch of options, the Gold Coast looks like exactly what i want.

but honestly? i'm stressed. i need some brutal honesty about rent, public transport, and what the vibe is actually like for someone my age. for context, i lived in Edinburgh for a bit and absolutely loved how chill and walkable it was. then i spent a summer in London and hated it - way too chaotic, crowded, and stressful. i've heard the GC is the perfect balance of beach lifestyle and city life, but moving my entire existence across the planet is hitting me hard now.

is the rental market as much of a nightmare as tiktok makes it out to be? and can i get away with just using the tram/buses, or am i going to be completely stranded without a car? i'm just super overwhelmed because it’s so far away from home and everything feels like a massive question mark right now. if anyone has made a similar move or can tell me it's going to be fine, please let me know. thank you.

kinda mad at myself but highly recommend doing an app purge

I just spent my whole morning auditing my shopify dashboard because my mobile page speed suddenly tanked to like 32

It is actually insane how quickly these monthly app subscriptions stack up. I realised I was paying for 3 different upsell/cross-sell apps that were literally just conflicting with each other and making my product pages lag

Ended up nuking almost everything. Deleted those annoying FOMO countdown timers (let's be real they look tacky anyway), stripped out my bulky old customer service widget and just threw in a basic alternative to tidio so the inbox is still there, and removed a currency converter I didn't even configure right

my speed score jumped almost 30 points immediately. if your store is feeling sluggish just go look at your apps list. you probably don't need half that junk tbh

online dating in santa fe feels impossible

i moved to santa fe a couple of years ago for a slower pace after living in bigger cities most of my life. i work remotely in marketing and thought it would be easier to meet people here, but the dating scene has been rough. the pool is small and most of the profiles i come across either want something super casual or they’re not really in a place to build anything real.

my last relationship ended about two years ago after almost four years together. since then i’ve tried the apps on and off but it always ends up the same way, long conversations that fizzle out or people who seem interested until it’s time to actually meet. living in a smaller city like santa fe makes it even harder because there aren’t as many options and a lot of people seem to be passing through or not really settled.

i’ve been thinking more seriously about professional help lately. i’m at a point where i’d rather invest in a better process than keep doing the same thing and hoping for different results.

Bulk buying air tools and consumables for the workshop. What's a realistic markup from wholesale?

I'm quoting a decent-sized fabrication job and I'm shopping around for bulk supplies, mostly air tools (die grinders, 5" angle grinders), cutting discs, flap discs, and lots of welding wire and electrodes.

The price difference between suppliers is actually doing my head in. Like, thousands of dollars on what seems like comparable stuff. One mob is quoting premium prices for brands like 3M and Pferd, another is way cheaper but I don't know if their discs will last two days on site.

I found a place called Macro Weld Pty Ltd that seems to sit somewhere in the middle. I know they sell CNC machines, but they also have a range of welding consumables and accessories. I can't tell if they're just padding their margins on the little stuff or if the quality is actually there.

What should I actually expect to pay for decent consumables and air tools? What's a reasonable markup from wholesale for a workshop? I don't want toget ripped off, but I also don't want to buy junk that'll cost me more in downtime.

keen to hear what you guys are actually paying and where you're buying from

sometimes i think we overcomplicate customer acquisition

been running a small handmade furniture business for about 3 years. nothing huge just me and one helper. and for the longest time i was obsessed with the right way to get customers.

facebook ads, instagram strategy, email funnels, seo, content marketing. all that stuff everyone talks about.

spent so much time and money on it. got some results but never felt worth the effort. then last month i had this random conversation with a guy at a coffee shop. he runs a landscaping business. told me he gets 80% of his customers from google maps for free lol

but you do physical work i make furniture. different thing

he said people search for furniture near me all the time dude

so i went home and looked at my google business profile. spent a couple hours fixing it. added good photos of my work.

its been about 6 weeks now. i got 4 new clients from it. not a ton but they were all ready to buy. no back and forth. made me realize we spend so much energy on complex marketing when sometimes the simple stuff works better.

anyway. anyone else ever spend way too much time on the fancy stuff while ignoring the obvious?

how do you trust your inventory data when you're not sure the system was set up right

genuine question because we're 3 years into NetSuite and I still don't fully trust my own inventory reports. like I'll pull a number and then open a separate spreadsheet to double-check it before any real purchasing decision. which kind of defeats the whole point.

the setup from 2022 was done by a consultant who was gone maybe 2 weeks after go-live. no handoff, no documentation, nothing explaining why half the config decisions were made the way they were. we just inherited it and figured it out as we went. added 2 new product lines this year and now stuff that was sort of working is visibly not working anymore. lead times aren't tracking right, reorder points are off, and I'm spending Friday afternoons reconciling things that should be automatic.

talked to a few people about it. someone suggested Moss Adams but that's overkill for where we're at. someone else pointed me toward Nuage NetSuite as a managed services option, basically they stay on after implementation and keep tuning the system as your operations change. haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet.

is this just the normal mid-market ERP experience or did we actually mess something up that's fixable

Anyone have recommendations for furniture removal in LA?

I bought a new sectional this week and completely forgot that getting the old one out of the house would be my problem. The couch is huge, heavy, and somehow made it through a doorway that now looks too small.

I've been looking at furniture removal services and saw someone mentioned locally, but I like hearing real experiences before booking anything.

Who have you used for furniture removal? Did they show up when scheduled and take care of everything without surprises? I'm mainly looking for a company that's reliable and easy to work with.

The whole airbnb "treasure hunt" check-in thing is just ridiculous now

Sitting outside in the rain yesterday for 40 minutes trying to decipher some host's 12-step PDF to find a lockbox hidden behind a dumpster... it just broke my brain tbh. like why am I paying a $150 cleaning fee to act like a private detective just to get into the apartment where I need to take my morning zoom calls

ended up getting a refund through support because the wifi router wasn't even plugged in anyway. walked down the street and grabbed a bed at samesun just so I could talk to an actual human at a front desk and drop my heavy laptop bag without doing a scavenger hunt first

idk man. the whole short term rental market just feels incredibly hostile to remote workers lately. are you guys still putting up with these crazy host demands or have you just reverted back to places with normal check-ins?

What is dual diagnosis treatment?

I’ve been struggling with drinking for the last few years. This came with anxiety, depression and stress. I was reading about dual diagnosis treatment and it seems it's what I need, but I don’t really know what it actually looks like day-to-day. I came across Rolling Hills Recovery Center in NJ and they seem to specialise in this kind of integrated care.

Has anyone here gone through dual diagnosis treatment? What was it actually like?

Is it cheaper to rent a dumpster or hire a junk removal company when moving to a new house?

I'm moving in a few weeks and realizing how much random junk I've collected over the years. Old chairs, garage stuff, broken storage bins, and a bunch of things that are not worth bringing to the new place.

Who moved recently, was it actually cheaper to rent a dumpster or hire a junk removal company? I keep going back and forth because the dumpster seems cheaper at first, but then you still have to load everything yourself. I talked to Junk Removal SCV about a quote, and it sounded easier, especially for bigger stuff. Tell me, please, what ended up being the better option for you. Thank you!

Anyone found a dentist in Aurora that doesn't immediately try to sell you a $5k smile makeover?

Moved to Aurora about six months ago and I've been to two dental offices here already, one off Iliff, one near Southlands, and the experience was identical both times

Cleaning takes maybe ten minutes, then the dentist comes in and suddenly I'm being handed a treatment plan for Invisalign, cosmetic contouring, and whitening I never asked about. One quote came in at $6,100. I have two kids under 5 and a mortgage. I just need my teeth not to hurt

Is this just a Aurora metro thing or did I get unlucky twice? Would love to know if others have found somewhere genuinely straightforward for basic dental care out here

what brewing method completely changed how you think about coffee?

for me, it was pour over after years of drip machines. suddenly I could actually taste the flavors on the bag. felt like switching from standard def to HD

what was your moment? did a specific method unlock something? Or was it more about dialing in grind and temp on something you already owned?

curious if the equipment really matters or if it's just paying closer attention

hail damage to roof after last storm needing repair quotes

my roof took hail damage during the storm two weeks ago with missing shingles and some dents showing up plus a small leak starting in the attic over the garage. the house is about 2200 sq ft single story and insurance is involved but they want photos and a detailed report before approving anything.

what exact steps did you take after hail damage to get insurance to cover repairs and how much did your roof work end up costing per square in this area? also any tips on what to watch for with contractors pushing full replacements?

What do you wish you knew before getting your first wheelchair?

I’m fairly new to all of this and realizing there’s a lot I didn’t think about beforehand.

Comfort, transport, daily practicality, adjusting mentally… it’s been a learning process already.

For those with more experience, what’s something you wish someone had told you early on?
