softener hose leaks on or off bypass

4 year old kinetico. the drain hose goes from the unit up about 5 feet to the ceiling then another 6 ft to a corner then 3 feet to where it angles down to the sink for discharge. so it seems like there's some kind of pressure for sure to have this leak go up/over so far.

i happened to be in the utility room last week and heard the water draining into the sink however it was not doing a cycle. i waited 1 hour to be sure. still was draining at a good clip so i did a manual recharge as ive read sometimes seals not setting can be the issue. after the cycle water still dripped for the next few hours but it wasnt a full stream like the original. i truly cant say if this is normal or not as ive never studied the issue before. so should it be dripping hours later normally?

regardless...i went away for 3 days so before i left, i turned the ball valves to bypass the softener (to save the water that was dripping) and set a small container under the hose and sure enough, even with the bypass closed 3 days, it still dripped. also with no water usage for 3 days, shouldnt any residual water in the hose dried up by then?

my water companys website shows the 1st full day i was gone i used .2 but thankfully the 2nd day gone shows zero. so it's not bad, but i wanted to confirm that bypass on or off there should be no continual dripping.

as an aside i also discovered they piped the unsoftened line to the fridge (grey valve in the picture) incorrectly as when i'm on bypass, i get zero water. so if the come out to do the softener repair, i think it's reasonable for them to redo that dont you? I did pay extra for it.

Where to sell an almost new tire

I was out of town and I was forced to buy a single new tire but I did not buy all four because my local place that I go I always buy the warranty and they have free rotation for life. So now I have a single tire with 150 provable miles that cost $150. So where would I sell this

cm8200A needs rebooted to reclaim faster upload speeds daily

I'm starting to use a cloud service to back up some large files so last week upgraded my ISP speed to 650/65. yesterday when i started using the service heavily i noticed upload speeds dropped a lot. i was getting between 5 to 7 MB/s all morning then mid day noticed 1 to 2. rebooting the cm8200a got me back to normal speeds. then mid morning today same decrease and rebooted now i'm getting 6 to 7 MB/s constantly on my laptop thru the cloud services desktop app.

im happy with the wireless speed and dont feel the need to try ethernet or buy the USB adapter. i feel this is something on the modem/isp end going wrong i have gotten wireless speed tests over 500 with the full 65 upload speed right after a reboot. and as an aside, phone always gets great speeds

is the last line of the upstream and downstream correct as they seem off compared to the other readings?

ive been testing new cloud providers and today was pclouds and filen turn. idrive was in the lead but after a period of time their interface 'time remaining' freezes for some reason and i have no clue when the file will be done.

i have just tested a 4 gig file with the pcloud cloud and turned off my internet to mimic an outage (they arent frequent but with huge files one outage will kill days of upload time.) but the file was lost. whereas filen has some kind of magic and their file upload just continued. so they are now in the lead.

so my question is: can i upload a 700 gig file and the behavior will be the same and it will not lose its place if the internet disconnects?

for those that want to know my usage: i have 4 acronis backup files from 300 to 700 gigs each. the 300 is my windows drive and will be backed up to pcloud perhaps 1 or 2 times a month. the other 3 files will likely only be updated once a month. (obviously it will take a long time to back each up).

then i tried sync with pcloud and it appeared to pick up where it left off. so my question is: can i upload a 700 gig file with sync and the behavior will be the same and it will not lose its place if the internet disconnects? then do different sync with 3 other large files?

also is the cache used somehow with this procedure? my C drive has 50 gigs or less usually and all the big files ill be using are stored on my readynas(no longer supported so i mapped it as a drive to upload the files). i dont know if this matters is why im asking.

i'm trying out the trial of the program and happy with the 3 hours for 9 gigs upload speed but 3 hours later it's still 'finishing' makes me wonder if i upload my large 700 gig file how long that will take to finish. whats going on with the finishing?

my needs for the cloud are uploading 4 large backup files or 300 to 700 gigs each

im unsure if those 6 processes above are cumulative or not so here im asking you. i realize there are bursts of speed that happen and think this is one of them. this shows over 7Mb which is very good considering i have 35mb/s and i was trying out idrive and didnt get that ever. also idrives desktop app has been nothing but trouble for me. all this week after a few hours the completed percent just stopped and nothing started it so i had to look at the speed monitor to see if it really was uploading but never had a chance to see how long it would take so just killed the task.

i'm using the 10 gig free filen space right now to upload a few large files and it does seem the speed is generally around 1mb but what is attracting me to the service is i disconnected my internet and reconnected and the app recovered the file and still showed the speed and time remaining. something idrive cannot do for me for some reason.

also curious if i try proton vpn do you recommend P2P or just the normal connection? also which protocol..smart, open or wireguard?

I'm aware of the situation with the nas not being updated and end of life. What I'm trying to do is get the readynas 422 to work directly with idrive to upload some very large files directly. I do not have room on my laptop to even temporarily put a 400 gig backup file and even if I could the interface they provide would very likely not be able to handle it.

I looked at many different providers and was happy that I drive would directly work with my Nas. And I got everything set up and did a small test backup of 6 GB which was  fast through the app from iDrive that was included in the factory nas. Such a large file would not be able to be uploaded using the standard iDrive interface.

Even though the backup was successful it will not restore and I've been in communication with support and I drive said it seems that the issue is that my Nas is not read and write however everything that I've looked at in the nas interface indicates that it is read and write for the administrator account as well as the iDrive username that I am using.

So I'm hoping somebody has intimate knowledge of this unit and can direct me how to make it able to write back to the nas since it obviously can read from it

my storage needs are uploading large acronis backup files (tib or tibx) from 300 to 700 gigs (could break the up if need be). i have less than 2.5 tb of backup files. acronis cloud is crazy expensive and my readynas is at end of life so cannot mesh with backblaze (buckets arent readable) and backblaze cannot backup mapped network drives

i just discovered idrive and their interface is backing up a small test file right now with their free 10 gig account. also idrive officially will back up mapped drive per their support pages and it appears to be working great at this time.

even full price of 10 bucks a month for a year is a good price for me. they appear to be zero knowledge, i have my acronis files encrypted and i have the idrive encrypted with my own private key as ill never share them. this is just my cloud backup to my NAS backup files. also i found this online " Private Encryption Key: When users create a private key (not stored by IDrive), the data is "NSA-proof," meaning IDrive cannot turn over readable data even if subpoenaed."

idrive appears perfect for me but i've learned when something is that good, not to believe it. so what pitfalls am i missing?

EDIT. i'm assuming 2.5 hours on idrive to do three 2 gig files upload is so slow because i'm on the free plan. initially i thought was a nas bottleneck since it goes from nas to laptop then up. but my acronis backup is 212 gigs and only took 82 minutes. i may have to do a one month paid to test it in reality. there's also a way to directly connect from within the readynas system to idrive (was an app there) so i'm gonna try it

question: is there a cloud service that would upload the acronis TIB file from my NAS and then restore it directly to the NAS, not using the laptop?

details about my research :

windows 11 computer. 500 gig drive and 2TB drive. i use acronis password and encrypted files for backups to my NAS which has two 4TB drives. I have 4 separate backups running at different times (some are rarely added to so dont need daily). backups are 400 to 700 gigs each.

ive never used a cloud service but realize in case of fire i need at least one copy offsite

i dont trust acronis cloud because in their TOS it says we wont decrypt your files unless we deem it necessary

i started researching backblaze but discovered when you restore a file, it gets downloaded as a zip file then you unzip it and you put it on your nas. but ill never have even 400 gigs, much less 700gigs of free space on my hard drives to download and unzip a backup from them then move it to NAS.

so is there a cloud service that would upload the acronis TIB file from the NAS and then restore it directly to the NAS, not using the laptop?

i just discovered you can backup pics continuously to my laptop using acronis mobile. i did not encrypt the backup since it's just going to my laptop. when i hit browse in acronis 2018 it takes me to the acronis folder on my laptop but i cannot see any photos there just the tibx file

i have a spare laptop and downloaded 2020 because i have a license for it on another computer. i backed up pics from the andriod and it created a file with the date/time etc and then hit browse and tried to look at the pics on the laptop but it said device not connected but of course it's connected on wifi. when i hit the phone to sync again it works fine . but acronis interface says reconnect and offers a QR code but if you scan it, it says it's already connected to that laptop

if i cannot look at the pics on the laptop then mobile isnt very useful to me. i can look at the backup thru the android app though. so the connection has to be there.

i have 2018 and never activated the cloud and i see in the destination folder it now just says i have to buy it. ive been asking many questions on this forum and just realized if i had a trial of the cloud, it would answer so many questions instantly. is there any way to do this?

my main goal is to see the integration of how an incremental or differential file would be processed. another forum member indicated to me that with incremental , that subsequent backups would be very quick because my initial backup would be quite large. but i wont back up directly to the cloud on a daily basis (i do back up to my NAS) but i DO want to back up the acronis tib files to the cloud at intervals and want to see that in action to solidify my understanding of the process

or maybe i need a new plan based on the info i receive. maybe i can back up to the cloud and my NAS somehow together. just need more info

I only use the backup option to my NAS so i cant think of any features that may be on the newer versions, but thats why i'm asking. I currently have 4 different backup sets running different times (some daily, some just weekly). i have an offer on my account for 2026 perpetual for 100 bucks and i see you can get 2025 for 80 bucks perpetual.

i wouldnt use acronis cloud so that doesnt factor into the equation. id be backing up the acronis files to likely proton drive.

been thinking should something crazy happen and my NAS is destroyed, it may be wise to back up my password protected 2018 tib files to the cloud. im looking at zero encryption clouds like proton etc.

just curious how secure you think a good password protected tib file is.

secondary question. should my 2018 program stop working and i cannot for some reason get it to work, will any newest acronis program be able to recover the old files? im not sure if i will always be able to reinstall the old program as im not familiar with acronis policies on old software. (think house burned down no access to anything i have. )
