What is the most random artist you can think of that you believe could get a second wind of popularity in social media like TikTok, etc? (Half joke, half serious question)

TikTok, love it or hate it (or be completely indifferent to it), the power it has to bring new life into bands and artists that would've otherwise just stayed in their own niche, or woulda remained obscure, is kinda insane. So throw a band up at the wind you feel TikTok kids would've eaten up if they ever discovered them today.

Honestly I think the kids should discover acts like Spiderbait, The Blood Brothers, Eyedea & Abilities and Sleigh Bells lmao

So throw a band at destiny you feel TikTok kids would've eaten up if they ever discovered them today. (Preferably if they're from around the 2000s to early 2010s, although seeing a 90s pop punk group getting newfound popularity would be funny as hell too)

What is a book series that had a bad movie adaptation you think deserves a second chance as a TV show?

Given that Percy Jackson finally managed to get a second wind thanks to the Disney+ show, despite not being perfect, being MILES better than the two movies that preceded it, that got me asking what book series could benefit from having a second wind at an adaptation?

Been thinking either Eragon or, as a more deeper cut, the Darren Shan book series, that got a film adaptation back in 2009 that flopped incredibly, and maybe could get an opportunity at finding a larger audience if it got a tv show (and interestingly, the books were popular enough in Japan to the point it even got an official manga adaptation)

Songs you cannot take seriously anymore due to real life events

Lil Wayne's recent right wing pandering and his dismissive reaction to the BLM protests and racism in general really retroactively takes away a lot of the impact of his older song Georgia Bush, which is him criticizing Bush's response to Hurricane Katrina that especially hit his hometown of NO

Any rapper talking crap about older rappers now that they're close to their 40s themselves and are still active in music

What are some beats from producers that are very far removed from their usual style?

Eminem's productions from the 2000s have a very particular, sparse and gritty style that was very recognizable, even if kinda one-note at some points (as I heard from some people, sounds like Luigi's Mansion music), which is why I've never woulda ever guessed in a million years that he was behind the beat to Smack That by Akon until quite recently lmao

songs where you can tell the rapper was intoxicated and/or sick

Perhaps the most famous example of this is Kanye recording Through the Wire with his jaw wired shut, but I also wanna bring y'all attention to this song by Ca$his called Pistol Poppin' which features a verse by Eminem

Em recorded that while he was on the peak of his drug addiction in 2006/7 that almost killed him and GOD it shows

Also apparently Guru was drunk af when he recorded the song ALONGWAYTOGO by Gang Starr off their album Hard to Earn

Say a pet peeve about your favorite hip hop producer

DJ Premier is a legend but since he found his signature style at around 1997/1998-ish his beats have lowkey kinda sounded like slight re-hashes of themselves ever since, save the occasional different sound

Flows rappers did on songs that had you like "damn why don't you rap like this more often??"

There is this old ass song by Tyga from 2008 called "Diamond Life" (which I heard on NFS Undercover as a kid and for years never even knew it was him), alongside his verse off "That's All I Have" off No Ceilings by Lil Wayne he is legitimately rapping his ass off like his life depended on it, and even tho he found his niche with doing a particular brand of pop rap as he blew up, it really made me look at him differently

Same as Eminem nowadays whenever he actually chills out with his stiffer modern style once a full moon and actually slides on a track, like he did on Caterpillar by Royce da 5'9"

Rappers' voices who changed drastically over the years (be it merely from aging, drug use, whatever)

I've been listening to a buncha songs Dr. Dre has been involved with over the years, and ofc it's obviously from him getting older, but I swear something musta happened between the 2000s and 2010s because modern Dre doesn't even sound like the same guy anymore lmao

And also another good example of that for me is Prodigy of Mobb Deep; he got some gravel in his vocal chords over the years lol

"Pot calling the kettle black" beefs in music

I like 50 Cent ('s music), and his beef with ja Rule will forever be iconic (if that's the right word to use) but man looking back at his career, ain't a lot of his digs aimed at Ja Rule just the pot calling the kettle black

> "lmao this Ja Rule guy says he's a gangsta but makes romantic pop rap with catchy hooks"

> *proceeds to do the exact same*
