Context: I’m from Pakistan. Arranged marriages are still the general rule of thumb for a significant majority. I am yet to experience it for myself (I’m 30 male) but probably wont go down this road. People meet once for an hour and have no intention of continuing but will keep doing background checks for fun. Someone’s dad got access to potential groom’s bank statements. That’s illegal! What are your apprehensions about the AM scene where you’re from? If you’re considering it what are your reasons?

I was ungovernable during my bachelors and hence only focused on skill building and not academics at all. My masters (2026) transcript is nearly perfect, I’m graduating close to a 3.9/4 CGPA. I have no teaching experience yet but trying to get some. Have 4/5 years of research experience (out of 9 years total) as well as over a dozen non-academic research publications (articles, reports). AND I’m clear on my phd interest. What do I need to do NOW to become a stronger PHD candidate?

Met once or twice briefly during an almost year long separation after having been married for 3.5 years and dated for 2.5 years before that. I was the one who fell in love, initiated the relationship and asked her out and all. Everyday it felt more and more as if she was my dream girl. But we were totally different emotionally. She was super codependent and chased validation externally, I was more self sufficient, she was the loud and firm voice in the arguments and i was the pacifier and yes-man. It all blew over when I got ridiculously emotionally exhausted. Bottomline is the last conversation we had after having months to ourselves she told she had realised in every relationship she just mirrors the other person so they desire her more and more and that is what love is for her. Sometimes I feel like I completely failed at actually understanding who she is as a person.
The very first time we went to Gujranwala from Lahore to meet a family for my younger brother I was surprised at how awkward these things could be and later we got back in the car the first thing my mom said “unho nay ketchup wala pouch as it is rakh diya” (as opposed to serving ketchup in a bowl etc) and I’ll never forget me and my dad laughed our asses off at the fact that THIS was the thing my mom noticed the most 🤣🤣🤣
