Coke on 16700? Would you consider it ok or not

My 16700 came on black original insert. Have afterwards bought both a coke and pepsi bezel (original, of course) and have it now on the coke.

I know its not 100% kosher. But you could at least until recently get a coke as a service insert no questions asked at any AD. But as you may know, all of a sudden Rolex stepped in and said "nope" and you can not anymore get another color at service, they will only give you the one that it came with, and if exchanged, take the old one.

Because now its a finite amount, they prices have skyrocketed on insert. If you can get it at AD 150EUR, but grey marked a very good one now like 700-1400EUR (!). This is a total bummer in my opinion and I can´t really understand what was the point from Rolex side? Would changing color on bezel somehow hurt their sales or reputation new watches? Its puzzling to me...

Anyway that is a side note. But to be honest, while I really like the coke look, it obviously bothers a little bit every time I wear the watch that it after all is not 100% correct. Am I just being silly? Or should I just insert the pepsi again so its historically correct?

I understand there is no right or wrong, just opinions... But let´s say you see someone wearing a coke on a 16700. Would you say, cool man, or would you with a subtle comment shame the bastard?

Whats up with the steering wheels on new cars?

Bmw Ix3. plain weird with the vertical spokes. Have seen it IRL and without even had tries it, it looks to be quite bad on the ergonimics front with strange design choices on the layout. I think this alone ruins the interior. Dont know if you can adjust to that steering wheel.

Volvo Ex60. Gives quite an underwhelming and cheap impression? Does not feel like Volvo design language at all. More like they ran out of money and found this in the geely part bin.

Audi Q5. Sorry audi but the steering wheel looks retarded.

Lexus es - while not the worst, "tactile" is not good and lexus people are smart. why did they still opt for this? Lexus used to do reeeally nice steering wheels but this feels very bland and boring.

The only (new) steering wheels I think are acceptable is either polestar 4, more traditional without any innovation but still very nice or the new rivian r2 that somehow managed to innovate with cool new controllers without making the steering wheel feeling like it belonged to either a spaceship or insane asylum. I have also seen some random videos on new chinese cars that seem nice. But the european "premium" are mostly on the wrong path in my opinion.

Will Péter Magyar ...

First of, as a european, I am like most people very relieved by the revitalized leadership in Hungary that, if succesful, may spark similar uprising in other eastern european states with sketchy people in charge. But changing the status quo may be very impopular and if the former government were corrupt, and Magyar is threatening many corrupt peoples livelyhood, obviously he is for sure a potential target? I dont have deep intel on the hungarian politics but I think, whatever the outcome may be, it will be a very telling sign for the rest of EU.

I am thinking about maybe four main scenarios:

  1. Be successful in his quest to mitigate corruption. Hungary will have a couple of hard years with sacrifices ahead but he will have the people with him and noone dares to hurt him.

  2. The criminal organized crime are working behind the scenes, its only a matter of time before he falls in the stairs or from nowhere develop a rare disease. Maybe Kreml will help in this?

  3. The corrupt forces will grind on and over time, win him over when he realizes how much wealth is possible for him personally. Not day one but as time goes by. And once they get some dirt on him it will be back to normal again.

  4. He will try but in essence, not succeed. He will put all his energy into this but after three or four years he realizes it has gone too far to be fixed. It will be some small victories along the way but nothing that really sets of Hungary in another trajectory. Because of the hardship of many people, Hungary is an easy target for a new populist (very likely backed up financially by Kreml) that will promise everything and basically be a new Orban with a different name...

What so you guys say?

Back to Tokyo. 14 years later - it sure has changed!

Had a really awesome backpacking trip some 14 years ago with friends exploring not only Tokyo but pretty much all of the mainland. Unforgettable for sure!

I was especially amazed by Tokyo and for a long time after I came home I tried to figure it out (hint: I couldn´t) but as I really dig Japan in general, I was determined to go back some day.

That day came this summer and being back for a few weeks, I think it is safe to say somethings are veeeery different and some things remained more or less as I remembered it:

All time low price point
Just insane how much cheaper Tokyo (and Japan) as a whole is for a tourist. Too cheap, I would say because it attracts a lot of sketchy people (more on that further down).

TOURISTS GODDAMN EVERYWHERE.
I was totally floored by the amount of fellow gaijins. Like an insane amount of westerners, especially Shinjuku and Shibuya. Too much to be honest. I can understand if the regular Tokyo resident is pretty sick at this point. An interesting observation was the large amount of indian tourists. Totally unheard of some years ago but surely the indian middleclass has become pretty wealthy so no surprise really.

Tourists behaving badly
If you have manners, this should even not be a talking point. If you travel, behave and be decent person. Learn and try to understand the local culture. Most people understand this. I think this is especially true with Japan because of their special social codes that are not always understandable for a westerner. I saw several times people being rude to japanese in restaurants because they didnt understand the booking procedure or didnt want to wait in the line. It was heartbreaking. To be honest, I think the cheap price point has also attracted people from the lower classes who are not that used to travel or perhaps know how to behave properly.

Indians (again!)
Woav, mainly indians ruling the convivence shops like seveneleven, lawson etc. Who would have thought, its like south of Europe now! I guess the indians know how to work hard. And I also had some encounters with indians (and africans) on the street trying to sell things. I just sent them of. I was not too worried about but at night time it felt a little bit sketchy. But I would not assume its drugs they sell?

Africans
A lot of africans on the street trying to sell things. Drugs? I dont know. Last time I saw maybe like 1-2 black guys in the sketchy areas in Ropongi but now it almost seemed like a community. Very few african in shops though, mainly on the street. As with the indians they seemed mostly active at night time.

Cleanliness not 100%
Now only at 98%... ;) Last time I was so impressed that like every spot in the whole city was soooooo clean. Everything was pristine. Bikes were unlocked. No graffiti. But today, you could see dirt here and there, some graffiti. Some sevenelven where pretty shitty, like dirty and messy. Still No1, but just not operating at 100% anymore.

Homeless people :(
Never saw a single homeless people last time. Now plenty everywhere. So heartbreaking I thought about it alot. Most people looked like regular folks, no drug addicts or alcoholics. Goddamn Japan, what happened? :(

Arcades
No more classic arcade machine places in Akihabara or elsewhere (what I saw). Sad. Period

Food
Still on top in the food chain. Excellent like always!

Travelling by subway. Suica and apple pay
Woav. Just put it in the app and you don´t to understand Tokyos subway system. Such a blessing. And Suica is sooooo nice. And all places accept cards. No more of carrying that large amount of pesky cash

Nice beaches and good food - 2-3h flight from Singapore?

We are travelling from Europe to catch some sun in January next year. A couple of days in Singapore because its an awesome place then on to something more beachy.

Initially our thought has been Phú Quốc but wondering if that is the best bang for the buck? We appreciate a nice beach but equally good food and something fun to do. So a resort is not what we are after.

Any thoughts where to go?

Some reflections on being a tourist for nearly a week in Okinawa!

This was my first trip to Okinawa and my thoughts about the island as I have come to understood it on the surface after touring the mainland for about two weeks and this was the last stop mainly for chilling and snorkling.

First, what was to expect from Oki and how did it pan out? Well I envisioned a japanese Hawaii and I think it is pretty much a very fitting description, with a Thailand flavor to it. Most is in order but it is not exactly "Tokyo on the beach" in terms of neatness, everything clean and polished etc with many building looking empty, graffiti etc.

One thing that clearly is not discussed enough is the weather forecast and that you basically cant trust it. It said 20-300mm all days but we only encountered rain one night, other days it was either foggy or clear blue skies and no pesky rain at all! But dang was it humid! I have been to humid places before but this takes the cake. And most of the days windy or very windy.

That the american precense has influenced and fused with the local culture is no understatement either. If it is a problem or not I dont know but the americans I encountered were respectful so probably not a big issue.

Maybe Im biased a little bit as we stayed in Chatan, american village. That was a very strange place, very hard to understand. A lot of kitsch. Didnt feel that genuin. But it was good as basecamp to get around the island.

And if you read this and plan to go there: You will need a car to get around otherwise a very poor experience will probably materialize. Bad news: left side traffic if you are not used to it. Good news: its a breeze. Very slow and gentle traffic. Its a lot of cars but they drive respectfully from what I experienced and you will adjust very fast. Just dont speed or drink and drive (zero alcohol tolerance and they dont mess around if you get caught!)

As food goes, we had some really delicious encounters, both by chance and also highend local wagyu that we booked was extremly tender and nice, a highlight! Also the taco rico became a favorite. But we also had a couple of less than stellar experiences (even with research), and this never ever happened on the mainland, so that is perhaps something to consider if you are a foodie that the selection is what it is and you need to do extra research...

Locals we encountered were very friendly, couldnt say there were a difference from the mainland japanese.

We went to Kerama national park to snorkel and woav! an amazing experience! But in all honestly I found Sesoko beach equally nice because you will snorkel in the corals there too and experience most of the colorful fish there top!

One thing I highly recommend as a "must" is the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium where you will see an insane amount of fish and very big ones too!

So final comment, was it worth it, will I go back? For sure! When you hear "Okinawa" you instantly think of something very remote and perhaps hard to get to. But I mean its just an 3h flight from Tokyo so totally doable to add an unique experience to your vacay.

But once again, skip the cities and explore the main island and the islands surrounding it ans you will most likely have a very awesome experience!

Coke on 16700, YES/NO?

I am contemplating this scenario. I know you can, and it would in a sense be cool, but Im struggeling if it is ok or not as it is not per reference. On one hand, to hell with it, why not?

But the other, creeping in the back of the head, is the question, what will you actually get? A franken?? It came black and pepsi, that is it, and should be respected, no? And the possible ”discussion” I need to have and justify why I have a coke on 16700 if this subject comes up…

What is your thought on this?

Flight cancelled from Osaka to Naha

Got confirmed that our flight at 1405 is cancelled due to weather and the one already flying may return back.

is the weather really that bad at Oki at the moment? Is it common that they cancel flights?

So what typically happens AFTER a Tyfoon apex?

Sorry for being another 外人 but Im not very familiar with earthquakes ans tyfoons where I am from, so would really appreciate if you can shred some light on this situation.

Gameplan is to go from Osaka to Naha on Friday. And if its a bad idea we will go for some plan B on the mainland. Some place with nice beaches and a chill vibe.

If the weather reports are true, then Okinawa would be ok in a couple of days and more than likely also the Osaka region. What I can see flights on friday should be ok?

Ok so lets assume we go and Apex was tomorrow or Wednesday. what mayhem and destruction should we be prepared for?

- Will weather go back to "normal" or are some blowbacks common in days after a tyfoon?

- what about restaurants and stores? Will they be low on stock? Expect closed restaurants?

- Something else to consider? (we have btw a rental car for the whole week)

よろしくお願いします !

XC60 2022 - spontaneously slammed the breaks without warning

I was driving on a country road and all of a sudden the car braked without any reason. The car in front was like 200-300m and was driving normally. And nothing else out of the ordinary except it was sunset with pretty strong sunlight. Got a message on the display with something like "emergency break! obstacle detected"

Got scared as hell... Luckily there was no car behind...

Never happened before. Could it be the sun or more likely a hardware or software glitch?

I mån av tillgång

Sugen att prova men priset är lite suspekt lågt. Är det låg kvalitet, är den skämd eller kanske bara väldigt små portioner? Hm

Is it always "depend on game", so basically you always need to try all three major ones each time you install a new game, or do we have any hard evidence which one to use, generally speaking?

I have tried both vanilla (v11 final), lukashi and star. For the record, at least for older dx games I have had best luck with lukashi so far..
