Would you prefer free open-source email clients or just use Proton?

I recently moved over from Gmail to Proton, and ngl it was a hassle. But I'm hoping to hear good things about Proton. I've been thinking about Thunderbird, but if I have to pay for Proton I will.

Maybe im lost

Coming from a non graphic designer (i was in visual media arts though), how do you graphic designers feel about the new look that apps on phones are getting? It seems they are straying away from the matte look and adding some glossy touches to them. Unless im going crazy and theyre not.

Just another subpar element of U.S infrastructure (in this case, essential business infrastructure). Thoughts?

Why is the US financial system still stuck in the past? It’s not about the cost (I could point out so many reasons why our deficit exists). Why can’t we have real time transactions instead of relying on batch processing? Shouldn’t we be leveraging AI for THESE tasks rather than focusing on trivial content like Will Smith eating spaghetti??

Seriously though, when can we expect a major overhaul? Side note, just as an example, the U.K implemented chip readers into debit/credit cards in 2004. The U.S didnt get this implemented until 2015. It’s just frustrating to see 40 year old COBOL systems in use when technology has advanced so much. While merchants might be partly to blame for slow ATH transaction updates, perhaps we could standardize POS systems more effectively? PERHAPS? The US is lagging behind in so many areas, and it’s embarrassing. Our banks still struggle with instant settlements and digital first environments, even though we have data centers right outside our front door.

Ideally, we could allocate $142 billion annually to defense and then around $1.3 trillion to digital infrastructure over the next 15 years to avoid falling into the ‘Thucydides Trap’ with China. That's in a perfect world, though. But hey, maybe we can all chip in for DT’s Scottish Golf Course, right?

▲ 2 r/work

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to survive in a work environment devoid of communication? I’m a 28 year old electrical/electronics engineering tech working with a group of chemical engineers. It’s become quite evident that my colleagues are all on edge. I’ve tried to initiate communication efforts, but they always seem to fall short. I’ve only been here for a little over a year, but I don’t want to overstep boundaries. My group just does not seem happy (my overthinking mind constantly assumes that everyone hates me), and I just feel hopeless here.

Now forgive me if my rambling starts to get choppy and out of order here regarding my boss because... oh man. My boss. He is just not a good boss. He never checks on me. Only the girls behind me who, not to sound pompous or entitled, have the same qualifications as I do, but they get promoted a year after they were hired. I only received a COL 97 cent raise. Thank you for that. He's very condescending towards me. His tone changes whenever I ask him a question (as if he's threatened by me?). I have an Excel sheet of all of the work I’ve done from last year (like a task sheet). Come to find out a couple of weeks ago, all the documented work that I did last year in that Excel sheet was deleted. Luckily, I knew something like that might happen, so I kept an extra copy on my desktop. I recently told him that I applied to the new electrical engineering position that opened up here. The following day, he says in a meeting, "So what job positions do we think would ACTUALLY be beneficial for us?". I’ll take the hint.

I just really wish the company culture was better because it has a lot of potential, and I genuinely do like my job. However, it’s frustrating to witness the lack of initiative among everyone. I believe one of the many bottlenecks is my boss when it comes to making decisions and improving communication. I’ll admit that I do believe he is on the spectrum (I think I am too), and I know how hard it is to communicate your thoughts and be very blunt towards others, but it’s gotten to the point where if I try to make any suggestions, ideas, or concerns, he dismisses them or puts them off. I also just really don't think he likes me lol. At this point, I think I’m just going to keep my head down and try not to lose hope. I genuinely think everyone else is keeping their head down too because it really seems that everyone has tunnel vision. Anyone else relate or in a similar situation?
