Got tired of chinese replacement batteries for the Samsung S3 i747 (these work on i9300 too) last a few months then inflate.

Turns out if you 3d print a fake battery (og is 63mm x 50.2mm x 5.52mm with positive pin 1 being closest to corner, 3 being negative)

Using an old dead micro usb cable taking the end off & just plugging it in with red to positive & black to negative & use the fake battery as a holder/insert; you can turn it into a usb powered phone, just leave it plugged in, never charge or inflate it again

-Firstly I bought for $278 CAD a single gear Vevor 24" wheel adult tricycle (bad idea)

They suck: design makes it so 2 bolts hold the back axle to the entire front of the trike, no natural hook like a wheel fork, no just if they loosen, it separates. Wheel nuts are lock tighted, not king nut, you loosen them once, theyre done. Heavy, its a steel frame. Dumb spring rear axle brake design, added a ton of friction to the whole system, even when not engaged. Materials: rusty within one year with no salt exposure meaning likely bad material choices, it will destroy itself in a vacuum. ETC.

-Then I bought a 500W front wheel hub motor kit (bad idea) & 3 SLA UPS batteries (ok idea)

The first hub i got just straight up didnt work, second one i doubt was really 500w, maybe 150w. No matter, front wheel had very little weight on it, the power was needed on the back wheels, not the front on an etrike, she thicc. The batteries were fine in the end, i ended up needing 1 of them for my UPS so big whoop, now i have spares on a battery chemistry i like that i use occasionally for projects (screw my home burning down for Li ion). Motor got returned.

-Then i rethought the design & at the time couldn't find a rear axle motor kit (expensively ive since found one but project cancelled), so i bought a simple 250w motor that was super cheap, i figured worst case scenario; its too weak, best, it gets me a whole 10 kph (bad idea, more like 1 kph) still have this motor, currently in plans to make a crappy DIY wind turbine to charge my ebike so my landlord cant charge me a fee for charging the bike (how this project ends)

I then learned the gear on the motor was not the right size for a standard bike chain, also the claimed rpm was WRONG, wayyy faster so low end torque was unusable. Whatever, I have a 3D printer, ive seen those stupid videos where they use a roller to use the wheel as a gear & transfer the power right to wheel to solve it. Printed one & as a test used some cheap wood & 5 bungie cords to get the pressure against the back left wheel.

The roller wore CRAZY fast, it actually all worked with enough pressure (tire didnt like it) & a good roller toothed design around the tire tread, but nonetheless, roller would have to be replaced after like 3 rides over & over with how bad the wear was. Any more pressure on the tire to reduce friction & thus wear & the tire woulda popped. Speed was 1kph so basically pointless.

-Looked into custom gears & a 3d printed gearbox with a conversion of chains system / a more powerful motor right onto trike chain. Problem: the ratchet system is after the chain on the trike, meaning the motor would spin the pedals with full torque behind it, easy way to delete my ankles.

Looking back this was a dumb project, E trikes when i started were minimum $2500 CAD for a 500w one, theyre now $1100 with a 1500w peak, 500w continuous power motor on the rear axle to work around Canadian laws & still have enough power.. My budget for my DIY one was: $488 & sucked

$278 (trike) + $95 (3x 12v batteries) + $50 (250w 36v motor) + $30 (10AWG Copper Wire) + $20 (in line breaker) + $15 (throttle button)

Another issue i faced is i wanted to enclose the etrike, cant do that when the pedals are too low, youd always have a hole in the floor & little space with the front wheels turning clearance. I failed to think of this when ordering the trike at 3am half asleep.

In the end if not enclosed, even with a better motor id still have either an ankle breaker or a lemon.. Id still be stuck working around the weather.. why not just get an ebike for now $300 brand new?

I now have a new ebike after I gave my old oone as a gift to family.

This was not fun. I am dumb.

Trike sold to someone for $200, they didnt want it but couldnt talk their wife out of it, hope she learned to listen to him lol.
