Why do I bother?

I have, what I like to call, PDD (Peripheral Deficit Disorder). I'm constantly swapping out keyboards and pointing devices. And every time I plug my New Model M, I wonder why I bothered to disconnect this keyboard. It just feels so right.

Today's combination is the New Model M along with an Elecom Huge Plus trackball.

I'm really interested in getting an EnduraPro just to get the integrated pointing device.

Cheapest Place To Get X-Men Elsewhen Digital

Since the book seems to be sold out everywhere and a lot of people are waiting for the reprint, I did some searches to see how to get the book digitally.

I found 3 sources:

  1. Apple Books - $19.99
  2. Amazon - $31.10
  3. Google Play Books - $31.10
  4. Kobo Books - $31.10

All 4 sources have DRM

Not sure why it's cheaper on Apple Books, but that seems to be the cheapest route.

Quick and dirty 4K wallpaper

Found this image online, inverted it, upscaled it in Pixelamtor Pro, and then made the canvas 4K and filled it with black.

I wish I could find a higher res version of that image for a cleaner wallpaper.

It's 2026 and I just don't organize my music the way I used to.

I love the iPod. It has the best UI of any DAP on the market. I get really annoyed by modern players with touch screens and some hacked up version of Android. I really want a DAP without a touch screen and only physical controls.

But in 2026, I tag my music quite differently than I did back when the iPod was in it's heydey. I use the album artist tag extensively, with the artist tag listing all the artists on a song.

Apple Music and iTunes Support the Album Artist Tag very well, but the iPod does not. So, when I sync my music over its gets quite messy, especially for soundtracks or compilation albums.

Kinda makes me sad that the iPod is dead, and we're never going to get a firmware update that supports album artist.

And before you recommend it, yes, I have installed Rockbox. Rockbox is very good, but it's not the same as the stock firmware. If I could hack Rockbox to make the Clickwheel to work identically to the way it does in the stock firmware, I'd give it another look.

The other pain point with the iPod is getting music onto it. I need to use either iTunes/Apple Music or a third-party tool. That I can live with. But the slow USB 2.0 transfer speeds really suck, especially when you have an sdcard modded iPod and need to sync over a few hundred gigabytes of music. Again, sad we'll never see a USB 3 iPod.

Sony WH 1000xm5 Headphone Repair Kit Installed.

I stopped using my 1000 XM5s shortlyh after all the hinge cracking pictures camer out. So, I'm fortunate to have a pair that's undamaged. Some kind redditor pointed me to a product made by Central Sound which is a repair kit for broken Sony hinges.

https://centralsound.co/products/cs-parts-repair-kit-for-sony-wh-1000xm5-headphones-broken-headband-hinge

Doing some Googling, I learned that this kit is also supposed to strengthen the hinge and prevent it from breaking in the first place. Well, the kit came in today and I installed it:

The headphone still fitr in the case. The driver still turn, through not nearly as effortlessly. And the blue colos is an incredibly close match.

Time to put these back in use and see how they hold up.

I have NO affiliation with this company. And I've only had them installed for about 30 min, so I can't speak to how well they work. But they don't add any real bulk to the headphones, so I figured why not try them.

If anyone owns these things, I'd like to hear how they're holding up. On their YouTube installation video they say they come with a lifetime warranty. If they break, they'll send you new ones for free.

They come in black and midnight blue.

Akira in Color

I'm sure has been asked a lot, but I can't find a definitive answer.

Akika in color first came in the US. Epic Comics released 38 issues.

Then those issues got reprinted as trade paperbacks by Epic, but never got completed.

There's also a 1991 reissue of some kind that is the complete series in color in 12 or 14 volumes? Who printed these? How can I track them down?

Is there a list of every color version and who the publisher is, so I can try to track down a complete set. The Epic Comics issues are quite pricey, so I am trying to asemble a complete set at a reasonable price.

My first attempt at customizing a BCW Stro-Folio to hold my Epic Comics ElfQuest collection.

BCW makes something that's called a Stor-Folio. It a laminated cardboard box with front and side pouches to insert custom artwork. It holds 14 bagged and boarded comics and closes on the side with a magnets.

I bought some to house my Epic Comics ElfQuest collection. and printed some inserts I designed.

Here is what I came up with. The front looks like this:

And here is the spine

I'm debating redoing the front and having all 14 covers on it in a grid pattern.

My WH-1000XM5s have not broken yet

Mostly because I don't use them that often. Is there anything I can do to reinforce the hinges to keep them from cracking before the inevitable happens?

Kinda sad that my Beats Solo Pro will probably outlast my Sony XM5s.

Looking for a Mac Markdown editor similar to Typora, but fully Mac native.

I really like Typora, but would prefer something completely Mac native and not an Electron app. Needs to support Typora's live preview as you type.

Willing to buy, not willing to rent, so no subscriptions.

Has to be a standalone edtor, so things like Bear and Obsidian are out.

Elecom Huge Plus Battery Life

I have an Elecom Huge Plus. Bought it in February. I am using it on H with the 2.4 GHz dongle. My battery life is around 1-2 weeks.

This doesn't seem normal.

First new CD In a while

Because I'm old, I'm a fan of Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson is their lead singer and songwriter.

The Jethro Tull subreddit did a poll asking what the best Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull album is of the 21st. And this won the poll. So, I found a copy for sale on eBay and grabbed it.

TCL needs to get out of the phone and tablet business and just make screens for other device manufacturers.

I love these Nxtpaper screens. But it's unbelievable how bad TCL devices are at software currency.

I have a NxtPaper 14, which is a device they still sell on their website and it just got Android 15 back in January and hasn't gotten a single monthly security update since then. It gets Google Play system updates because Google pushes those.

Google has fixed at least 3 zero day exploits in Android since January and I can't take advantage of that because TCL is gatekeeping that. I opened a support ticket with them back in December, and they genuinely seemed shocked that they should provide security updates.

Capitalism loves a completionist

The Berlin Hong Kong Edition arrived in the mail today. Three interesting observations:

  1. The book is taller than the previous editions by about 2 mm, would be my guess.
  2. The cover is now matter instead of glossy.
  3. The page count is the same (344 pages) as Berlin, but the book is a little thinner.

All 3 books use shiny coated offset printer paper.

I've bought books from publishers before that had matte covers and they usually don't feel good in the hand. They feel kind of "oily" and show fingerprints. No so with this cover. It feels nice in the hand and doesn't show fingerprints.

Is there any reason Proton can't release the old iOS client as a separate app in the app store alongside the existing app with reasonable explanations to explain the difference?

I'm pretty much dead in the water without Files app integration. I get that the old app won't be as fast. But I need Files app integration far more than I need speed.

I read the AMA. I get the challenges they face. But will the old client not work at all at this point?
