Today, the president was asked about family concerns over the USS Abraham Lincoln. When a reporter said families were concerned, he responded, “No, they’re not,” and when asked whether the deployment had gone on too long, he answered, “Not nearly long enough.” AP reports the carrier has been deployed for more than 260 days and that lawmakers and families have raised concerns about mental health and shortages aboard ship.

Imagine If We’d Bought Drones Instead
While America was burning through expensive, difficult-to-replace munitions, the Trump administration had some interesting spending priorities. In a single month, the Pentagon spent roughly $22 million on steak and lobster. There was the roughly $30 million Army parade, expensive furnishings and office upgrades, Hegseth’s new TV-ready makeup facility, and tens of millions more devoted to elaborate America 250 celebrations and events. Somehow, when it came to spectacle, comfort and self-congratulation, the money was available.
Now imagine if we had taken even a fraction of that money and spent it mass-producing cheap drones and other expendable weapons by the tens of thousands - and then used those whenever the mission allowed instead of burning through million-dollar missiles and other scarce precision munitions. No, drones can’t replace everything. But every cheap weapon that can do the job is an expensive weapon still sitting in the arsenal when we really need it. Turns out you can’t shoot down a missile with a lobster tail, launch an office chair at the enemy, or replenish an arsenal with a really impressive parade.
