Scary movie recs

I’ve been avoiding horror for so long but want to give it a try. Any recs for horror that
- aren’t that scary, because they’re so over the top, thinking along the lines of Scream
- are more atmospheric (like Picnic at Hanging Rock)
- lean more thriller than horror

Equinox is your best option for pilates

I hate to say it, and obviously this is so expensive but my all access equinox is ultimately the most affordable and best option for pilates (mat, heated, fusion, but not reformer unless you pay extra). With equinox, I do a workout class everyday (usually pilates but sometimes barre or yoga). I don’t have to bring my own mat or clean the mat after, there’s so much flexibility in cancelling, there’s a locker room with showers, and there are no waitlists almost ever. I tried class pass and tried other studios, but nothing compared.

Why don’t airports have flower stands

No one is a romantic anymore. I don’t want a sweetgreen I want to buy flowers for my beloved at the airport, which should be the most sentimental place in the world

Live coding in music

This feels to me like an alternative to the stagnation in music? I’m thinking artists like DJ_Dave. Part of why music progress has stalled is because of the lack of new physical technology being created, but this seems like physically a very different way to create music. However it isn’t mainstream, but I think it’s only going to become more popular as an offshoot of pc music/hyperpop

Meeting people group fitness

I take a lot of group fitness classes (barre, Pilates, yoga) at different equinox locations in nyc. I’ve never spoken to anyone in any of these classes, but would love to make friends via class. Has anyone successfully met people via group fitnesses classes?

How to deal with overly involved doorman

I live in a luxury building on the upper west side & I’m one of the younger residents (24F) as my building is mostly families and older people. I really love the apartment, but one of the doormen is just like extremely friendly/involved in a way that makes me uncomfortable. I have an intense work/school schedule so I usually can only work out pretty late (after 10 pm), which is good because my building has a pretty tiny gym. He’ll always joke about seeing me working out late at night on the camera from the front desk, and I really don’t like feeling like I’m being watched while working out. He’ll joke about me throwing parties, because I have friends over at mine a good amount since most of my friends my age don’t live in as nice apartments as I do. Every time he’s at the front desk, he’ll stop me to chat in the lobby for like 15 minutes and he’s generally pretty friendly with everyone in the building it seems but he’ll stop me for longer. It doesn’t feel like in a sexually inappropriate way at all genuinely. It just makes me feel uncomfortable to the point that if I walk in and see him at the desk at night and was planning on running errands that evening, I’ll wait until the next morning to leave my apartment so I don’t have to talk to him twice. I don’t know if I’m being unreasonable about this, and I’m not even sure what to do. Would love to hear other people’s thoughts/any advice

Pregaming alone

Thoughts? My motivation is being economical and buying less drinks at a bar, but also trying to mitigate the awkwardness of showing up to a party sober. Something about it feels spiritually fat to me I can’t put my finger on it…

C. O. Bigelow

Do the French products at C. O. Bigelow have the European formulas? I’ve heard French sunscreen is better but part of that is because of how sunscreen is formulated in the US (I’ve been told la roche posay in Europe is better than here), and I was wondering if C. O. Bigelow imports from France or just sells French brands. How about Thompson’s Chemist?

Training outside of class

I’m an adult beginner starting with class twice a week. I’ve done Pilates for years, and I usually still do Pilates on my days off from ballet (mostly focusing on core). What else do adult beginners do to train? I’ve been following Maria khoreva’s at home YouTube, but don’t really have a regimen for them. I do her back and arms workout everyday my arms don’t feel sore. To see improvements I know I need to put in work outside of the studio, so what’s an example of a weekly routine that’d be good for improving?

For example how long should I aim to stretch per day, and should I focus on stretching different muscle groups or stretch whole body every day? How often and for how long should I train arms/core/back/legs etc. Do people do targeted turnout and feet exercises daily as well?

Post extraction care

I just got a facial with extractions (deep pore cleansing + oxygenation treatment), and I was wondering what exactly I should be doing now to help them heal and take care of them. I know I should be applying spf, sleep on a clean pillowcase tonight, and avoid sweating. Are there any other tips of products to avoid or to use? In general what should my skincare routine be for the rest of today and the following days

Smoothies

A blender has changed my life. I’ve gotten better at meal prepping, but I’m still not consistent about it. But now that I’ve gotten a blender I always have breakfast everyday. It’s easier when you buy frozen fruit/vegetables in bulk (Costco is good for this). You can also clean a blender by putting dish soap & water and running it, so clean up is super simple

Nymphet Alumni

What do y’all think of the nymphet alumni podcast? It feels red scare adjacent even though they’re way more of just a fashion/culture podcast not really touching on politics as much it’s been a good RS replacement for me

Two workouts a day

Does anyone do this? I currently do mat Pilates or yoga almost daily (30-45 min, never enough to break a sweat) and am looking to incorporate cardio beyond just walking (I live in a major city and walk 4-5 miles daily on average sometimes more or less). I was thinking like a once or twice a week kickboxing class or even something like HIIT in addition to my daily mat Pilates/yoga. What are the drawbacks to this? My goals are aesthetic to some extent (I don’t want to lose weight, but I like the way my body looks when I workout regularly) but also general health

Translations of Russian lit

In college my Russian professor recommended pevear and volokhonsky translations for all things Tolstoy or Dostoevsky. I’m rereading a lot of the books I read in school in English before I attempt to read them in Russian, what translation do you recommend (specifically for War and Peace & Brothers Karamazov) and why?

Lack of ambition in the morning

I set goals for myself in the evening (waking up at a certain time, working out, making breakfast, completing certain work related tasks), and then in the morning weasel out of them and decide it’s not worth doing anymore. Then I get super frustrated with myself when I become behind. My best work is done in sprints when I’m working twelve hour days because I’m so incredibly stressed or if I do work late at night (meaning I don’t have time for social plans after work). When I do normal 8 hour days, I waste the entire first half of the day (sometimes far more) and get close to nothing done. How do I become better about this?
