Hold on, was it ever confirmed that any of the Smilodon species hunted in packs? It makes sense to me that they were coordinated pack hunters, similar to a pride of lions. Maybe this is supposed to be depicting a small coalition of young males patrolling the plains.
But then, a coalition of young males would take over a resident group of females, (or...Smilodonesses?) In order to do that, they would have to kill the dominant male, along with all of his offspring. It sounds gruesome, I know, but that's just how nature works.

For context, a young Ouranosaurus named Chie had just given birth to her first litter of babies, when she had just been approached by an orphaned baby Spinosaurus.
Despite the fact that Spinosaurus was one of the Ouranosaurus' main predators, Chie had taken pity on the abandoned baby and decided to take her in and raise her as one of her own.

I just assumed that his hunters were the Outimals, but they're too small to be too much of a threat.
And why couldn't the Prototype hunt Huggy Wuggy himself? But then, Huggy would have never reunited with Kissy Missy.
I never understand these antagonists who desperately want something, and then leave it up to others to go get it for them.
