Hermit crabs fighting in temporary tank…not eating either

My new hermit crabs I rescued from a travel container from a person on Craigslist yesterday. They were in the travel container for a month before I got them. They did not have proper access to food or water. Anyways day 2 at my house and they aren’t eating, just literally skipping over snout and shell fruity buffet, dried mealworms, dried shrimp, and fresh banana and cucumber. I look over after hearing chirping coming from the tank and see two crabs brawling at night. I had to separate them from fighting. I’m not sure if I should go ahead and setup the 40 gallon tank for the even though post purchase death syndrome is a real risk. I really don’t know what to do. Please help! First time hermit crab owner here.

I ordered them some new shells as well, 6 shells that should fit them all, not sure what I should do at this point. Shells don’t come for like a week though. Seems like they are all liking to fight with each other just had to break up another fight for the second time.

How to cut pearl weed without hurting baby snails?

How do I safely mow down this patch of pearlweed without hurting any baby snails? I will feel bad if i accidentally chop some up with my scissors, but there are so many in here probably 400+ babies in the tank. I really don’t know what to do with it.

single kitten syndrome…

This is Lucifer, he’s around 11 weeks old and has single kitten syndrome because he was 6 weeks old when rescued from almost dying due to malnourishment, worms and parasites. The biting my arms/hands and feet/ ankles is getting to be extensive and he bites very hard. He is super mischievous which is why I named him Lucifer. Idk what to do I had tried redirecting to toys but he is very adamant on biting my body instead. I tried convincing my partner to get another kitten but he refuses. I have two other adult resident cats that have not been introduced fully to him yet. Will the adult cats eventually put him in his place and he learn not to be so rough? He is always running around wanting to bite something trying to play. It’s exhausting.

Temporary setup okay?

I’m getting three hermit crabs in a travel carrier today (second pic is their living conditions currently), from someone who has not properly been caring for them. I saw them online on Craigslist and it just really bothered me so I had to get them. I used play sand and eco earth about 2 inches deep max for now in a 10 gallon tank, (in their real 40 gallon breeder tank they will have at least 6 inches of sand and a glass lid) and also have the terracotta pot for a hide out area for them as you can see. I don’t have much other stuff until things come into the mail and it will take a few days at least. I spent literally ALL my money on these crabs and everything for them. I included a picture of their food I’ll be feeding them temporarily until I can order something better from hermitgrub or another similar Etsy seller. I already have premixed saltwater from where I’m in the saltwater aquarium hobby so I’ll have freshwater and saltwater available for them immediately today. Is this okay for a couple weeks, maybe 2-3 weeks, until their 40 gallon breeder is 100% setup? I read online it’s best to keep them in a smaller + shallow sand tank the first few weeks you get them due to post purchase death syndrome anyways. Not sure if that’s true. Any advice is welcome!

Please help!

I’m about to take in these 3 crabs from someone who lives 2 hours away, and I have no clue what I’m doing but I know that this setup is not correct, like at all. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank and that’s basically it. With a lid. Please tell me what I need to know about hermit crabs in order to save these little guys. I genuinely don’t know how they are still alive. Any tips and advice is welcome!

Gray tabby kitten

My newest rescue that I’ve taken in, they were 6 weeks old and weighed 1 lb at first. They had roundworms, Giardia, and toxoplasmosis and were skin and bones. Literally about to die when I first got them. They are very healthy now after rounds and rounds of antibiotics and several other medications as well. I named him Lucifer, luci for short because he is sweet but also really mischievous. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna be long haired, at least medium. Can anyone guess his hair length?

Medium or long hair? 11 week old kitten

I believe his mother was long haired as well, so I’m just wondering what he will be!

Help with new algae!

I let phosphates get too low, basically 0. The nitrates are at 5 ppm as well. It’s all covering all my macroalgae, sand and walls. Besides raising my phosphate and nitrate by dosing, do you think a uv sterilizer will help any? Any advice is welcome, thanks!

Will my 9 week old kitten be safe around these stairs?

I have a 9 week old kitten I rescued. Debating on keeping or re-homing. The only person who is interested is someone who lives in an apartment and has 3 kids. This makes me worried because they might want to rehome the kitten in the future due to housing changes. I do NOT want that. I don’t want them abandoned or ending up at a shelter or to a bad home. Now I’d like to keep the kitten as I’ve probably spent 500 dollars on them so far due to how sickly they were (about to die when I rescued them) I am just worried about these stairs…there is no handrail and it’s about 8 feet tall. I’m terrified the kitten will fall off the stairs and like die or have broken bones. I have 2 other cats in the home as well and they all seem to get along so far from a distance with the kitten. My adult cats have no issues with the stairs but, kittens seem clumsy in general and mine especially seems kinda crazy with energy now. So I’m worried somehow they will go flying off the 8 foot tall staircase! Not sure what I should do, I only have one bedroom in the house with a door, and I’m worried they will chew all the cords to my fish tanks. I have a ton of cords in my bedroom due to two fish tanks being in there. Do you think cord covers would work? I was debating on keeping them in the bedroom until they were old enough to know better with the stairs. I am also unable to add a guardrail to the stairs at this moment (I’m broke and it was never part of the design)

Musk turtle shell health

They have proper uvb (Arcadia brand 7% i believe) but never bask unless it’s nighttime and they are sleeping. They also have a proper heat bulb as well. They bask all night long. But don’t bask at all during the day, when the uvb is on. Currently In a 75 gallon tank. What else can I do to get the shell healthy again?

New kitten spread giardia to resident cats…

A few weeks ago I rescued a 6-7 week old kitten from a neighbor who had 28 cats, 17 were kittens. I took this one in who weighed 1.1 lb and was severely underweight and about to die. He was the only one was presented sickly. He has been on two rounds of panacur, two rounds of metronidazole. One round of azithromycin, and one round of Augmentin. He had two types of round worms. giardia and toxoplasmosis. The kitten is practically done with treatment now after several weeks. So here is where I messed up. I stupidly cleaned out the kittens quarantine room with Mr. clean disinfectant recently. Mopped with cleaner, and then let my two resident cats in the room for several hours. While the kitten stayed in their cage. I read later online that only certain cleaners kill giardia. So now my adult resident cats are at risk of contracting the parasite as well. Any advice on how to navigate this parasite from here? Financially this is really difficult on me but I’ll manage (credit cards). It’s gonna be at least a couple hundred more dollars to treat the adult cats. And I still need to confirm the little kitten is cleared of it as well with another fecal. Has anyone had similar experiences, any advice to eradicate it for good? I’m struggling with the kitten liking to play in his litter box. So I’m worried he’s been reinfected as well.

Worth repainting the doors?

Just got the doors replaced on my 2012 bmw 528i x drive after a wreck. They aren’t an exact match but close, is it worth spending the money to get this repainted later on? Does this look too obvious a color difference? Debating on just leaving it alone

Macroalgae help…

First pic is when I first set it up, vs today the second pic less than a week later. Some of the adult algae leaves have died and new growth started on some of the lower stems since then. I removed the decaying parts. My red macroalgae in the front seems to have doubled in size. But now I have some kind of algae on my sand and on my macroalgae as well. It’s hairy algae on the plants, patches of brown on the sand. I included a pic of my phosphate (green tube) and nitrate (orange tube) not sure what I’m doing. This is my first saltwater tank. There is nothing but macroalgae in this tank and some rock. How to reduce phosphate levels if needed? I don’t want nuisance algae taking over.

[GA] - Somerset, KY - 3 gallon tank w/ 30+ Sunkist shrimp

Literally setup this tank yesterday and moved the shrimp in there today. It’s all free, because I’ve been dealing with sick shrimp (muscle necrosis) separated the sick ones and plan to euthanize them. These ones should be healthy. I am done dealing with shrimp, the tank was 40 dollars from Walmart. It’s a 3 gallon. With a filter, lid and light. I added beneficial bacteria to the tank to get it cycled so it should be ready to go. Local meetup or you can come to my house to pick it up.

[GA]-Somerset, KY- aquatic plants W/ pink pearl ramshorn snails

I’m doing a massive trim on my tank soon and just wanted to see if anyone wants these trimmings plus a ton of pink pearl ramshorn babies (I only breed pink ones) I’m trimming my Pearlweed + helanthium quadricostatus, and I’ll throw in some hydrocotyle sibthorpioides! I don’t have the heart to throw the plants with baby snails in the trash so I’m posting here!

Macroalgae nano tank

New to saltwater, any tips for keeping macroalgae? Just set this tank up. I got Brightwell Aquatics ChaetoGro Liquid Fertilizer, and a decent light that’s about all. Not keeping anything living in here besides the algae so how often would I need to do water changes?

Hollywood juniper too close to house?

Bought this almost 7 foot Hollywood juniper on clearance for 45 dollars at Lowe’s the other day. I tried to leave some room for growth maybe 3 1/2 feet away from the house to the tree. Hoping it’s not too close, I heard they can be pruned too. Online I read they get 6-10 feet wide. Any tips on keeping it alive? I am terrible at keeping trees alive so far. I am adding some mulch to the area as well I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
