She’s wiggly, good leash-walker, playful, food motivated, spayed, excitable & working hard on her manners.

Korovka is listed on the at-risk list primarily due to shelter-induced behavioral deterioration and overcrowding at NYCACC (Manhattan).

Behavioral Challenges:

Low Arousal Threshold: The frantic shelter environment causes her to become easily overexcited and hyper-stimulated.
Mouthing: When highly aroused, she handles her stress by mouthing handlers' clothing and jumping up.
Leash Biting: She frequently bites her leash during walks, which is a common stress-response behavior in shelter dogs.

Medical Notes:
While behaviors are the primary driver for her emergency listing, she also has minor medical notes requiring attention:

Skin Issues: She has alopecia (hair loss) and pyoderma (an itchy skin infection).
Ocular Abnormality: She has a cloudy eye, though it does not appear to impair her actual vision.

This handsome boy was found as a stray and was kept one month before being surrendered by his finder because he was moving.

He is curious, cuddly, bouncy, vocal, affectionate, and food-motivated.

He earned the BEST possible behavior rating, is tolerant with strangers, playful with kids, and is familiar dogs.

Baby Blue is looking for a home. He’s my foster. He was taken to ACC Queens and abandoned by his family. I’ve only had him for a week and he is just the sweetest guy. My chihuahua is ten time more aggressive. He knows how to do a lot of things like sleep on a pillow correctly. He isn’t destructive or aggressive at all. He is super cuddly and good with small dogs. He just wants to play all of the time and/or cuddle. He’s a very very good dog. He was placed on the euthanasia list because he was fearful but who wouldn’t be when you’re suddenly in a shelter? If you’re interested in adopting, dm me and I’ll put you in touch with the rescue that I got him through. He’s a good boy and deserves a good home. Lastly, he was listed as Buttons Blue but apparently hates that name so we just call him Baby Blue or Blue.

Heartbreaking Update: Flash was euthanized and sent to the rainbow bridge this morning by NYCACC.

I truly think we could’ve found him a home but he wasn’t given enough time. They just put him on the list yesterday so I thought he had more time.

But thank you all for sending love and support to him in his final hours, even if it was from afar.

I hope he knows that people cared about him and that he was loved.

Flash was dropped off at a police precinct and was brought into the shelter in late-June. He came in wounded and scared but has since warmed up with familiar staff.

He’s still somewhat timid but is wiggly, cute, young & engaging. He’s shy with strangers and is nervous but willing to greet dogs.

Flash earned the 2nd best behavior rating!

Flash (ID #258526) is on the at-risk list due to shelter-induced fear and behavioral escalation (leash biting, jumping up)
caused by the stress of kennel confinement. While he is physically healthy, the high-pressure shelter environment has impacted his behavior.

The Good News:
Volunteer and staff notes highlight that Flash is a completely different dog when he gets away from the noisy kennel hallways. In low-stress office spaces and the outdoor play yard, he becomes social, wiggly, playful, and actively seeks out belly rubs and attention from humans. He simply cannot cope with concrete cage environments and needs an experienced foster or rescue to help him decompress.

THIS PRETTY GIRL NEEDS A HERO! 💐

The 4-y/o Mocha is back on the list again!

She was left tied up in front of ASPCA. She was originally at NYCACC 3 years ago and went to an adoption event where her previous owners saw her and said she had been lost for months.
The same “owners” recently left her tied up and abandoned in April. ACC contacted them and they said they did not want to reclaim her, listing various excuses including Mocha has separation anxiety.

She is a staff favorite! She earned the 2nd best behavior rating, loves being social with humans, and is a good leash-walker! She also enjoys training!

Mocha does present some prey drive towards small animals (like birds) and can be reactive around other dogs. That said, she does well with positive reinforcement and is easy to redirect with treats.
