As a Muslim this always made me cackle

Imagining the Vander Woodson clan as Muslim is so jarring and hilarious. The funniest part is in Islam the wife doesn’t even need to convert💀 Lily was diabolical for even allowing that

Honorary mention to Nate’s dad saying “Assalamu alaykum” to Eleanor.

Nelly Yuki is a two timing social climbing raggedy ass bitch and she is NOT the “icon” you think she is.

She was a spineless follower with no backbone or ethics. I’m shocked to see how much this sub supports her.

In the very, very beginning she was sweet, but that’s about it.

Were Rufus and Vanessa’s actor’s sleeping together?

Omg it looks like they’re mentally undressing each other in every scene, it’s so uncomfortable to watch

Thoughts on Jenny’s “downfall”

I’m rewatching and I’m on S1E15 where Jenny is deluding herself into thinking that she needs a prince and is too good for a lowly dog walker.

In my humble opinion, Jenny wasn’t “corrupted” by the upper East Side, she was already a social climbing wannabe but without the resources to action it. The moment she’s given the opportunity, she gives into the temptation and betrays her own morals. We see this from the first episode. The narrative that I see constantly is about Jenny’s “downfall” but from the get go, I sensed a desperate social climber that would, without hesitation, sacrifice her dignity and treatment of others if it meant fitting in. I’m sick of people saying that she started sweet and then Blair corrupted her. No, Jenny was already corrupt, it was just dormant.

And I don’t want to hear “oh she’s a teenage girl she’s vulnerable and just wants to fit in blah blah” this isn’t a given for everyone. Some people are desperate for validation and will sacrifice their values to get it (hence those values not being solid in the first place), and some people pursue fulfillment through other means, including young teenage girls. Half of Jenny’s problems were of her own making.

She’s also a BIRD

S1E7 Vanessa’s reaction when she walked in on Serena and Dan

Like hello??? She doesn’t even have the decency to be apologetic whatsoever, she just looks at Dan and Serena annoyed like THEY’RE the problem for having the audacity to make out on Dan’s bed.

If I or any other normal person walked in on a couple being intimate, I’d avert my eyes, apologize profusely, and immediately remove myself. Dan even had to be the one to walk her out. Literal insanity.

[Question] Has anyone else had negative experiences with an FP Journe Boutique?

I won’t get into specifics of the location since I’m still trying to work with the brand, but it’s a boutique in an English-speaking country. My first visit was at the Dubai location several months back and the team were absolute angels. I made it clear that I wasn’t ready to buy quite yet and they still walked me through brand history, asked me what I like in a watch since I was new to their pieces, and gave me realistic advice about curating my wishlist and prospective wait times. At no point did I feel like I was being talked down to or not taken seriously.

I did more research, now ready to properly begin the purchasing process, and during the subsequent appointment I felt like I was being treated like a pest. They offered champagne, which I politely declined and told them I don’t drink and asked for water, to which I could’ve sworn I heard a sigh. I think they got distracted but they didn’t end up bringing it. They asked where I’m from ethnically (a Middle Eastern country), where I grew up, what industry I was in, etc. which is arguably normal, but their reactions were just odd. These are things I’m happy to discuss with my SA, but the way they were asking made me feel as though they were “sizing me up.”

The true discomfort started with a comment about how the piece I’m most interested in (Tourbillon) is “very expensive,” to which I was like, okay, fine, maybe they’re just giving me fair warning. But obviously if I’ve researched it enough to know what it is then clearly I’d already know it’s pricier than the average timepiece? I’ve never had an SA tell me anything like that, ever. When I was inquiring about different pieces for myself as well as my husband that had a more realistic wait time according to Dubai team, they began to give each other looks and told me that I’d be waiting a very long time for them. When I was asking about the movements, servicing protocol, etc. they told me they could discuss all of this upon the watch becoming available for purchase, which they again emphasized wouldn’t be for a VERY long time. I asked how long we’re talking, and they said a decade or more with very smug looks on their faces.

I can’t explain it, but it just felt very, very off. I was getting rather anxious and upset so I again asked for still water, and he almost barked that they only had sparkling. To top it all off, they ended my appointment 30 minutes early, citing that they had another client waiting. I went outside, and saw no one. I felt like crying. My family friend, who is connected with the Beirut location, said that should not have happened and SAs are very passionate about horology, brand history, pieces, etc. and should’ve been happy to discuss these things with me. I told him that the Dubai location was exactly like that and he mentioned that prejudice about my heritage might’ve had something to do with my experience, but I really don’t want to assume that. I would go to Beirut but I just don’t think it’s worth it seeing as that’s not a realistic location that I can form a continuous relationship with. I was incredibly excited to start this journey with FP Journe because of how genuinely passionate the brand and its representatives appear to be about history and craftsmanship, not about status symbols or snobbery.

Has anyone experienced anything similar at a boutique of theirs? Any advice on how to proceed?

Is there a space for child free Muslim women?

The sub has, of course, devolved into a matrimonial site. I have no desire to meet my spouse on Reddit and I think attempting to do so is lunacy - I just want a space to discuss being child free with other sisters. Does anyone know of any such space?

Thank you!

Love bracelet fits more tightly on my left wrist?

Hello! I recently ordered two size 19 original love bracelets, one for each hand. I based this size on my right wrist. I understood from wedding ring shopping that the muscles on one’s dominant hand are bigger therefore my ring size will be bigger on my right, so I guess I applied that logic and only sized my right wrist, anticipating that my left would be smaller.

They just came in, and the left one fits WAY too snugly. Right side is perfect. I thought maybe that one was the wrong size, but I compared them and they’re the exact same diameter. I just had blood drawn on my left arm, does that impact anything? This makes no sense to me😭 I do not have a Cartier near me and do not want to deal with the hassle of the return process, so I’m basically praying that my left wrist is somehow very swollen and will miraculously go back to normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

My holy grails for my long 3a hair

I’ve spent many years curating my haircare lineup, and have found that my hair actually responds better to products not specifically designated for curly hair. I’m a hijabi with North African textured, tailbone length 3a hair, so I have to put a lot of effort into my hair and scalp care. I workout twice a day so typically have to wash my hair 3 times a week, but I’ll occasionally use some dry shampoo to tide me over (shoutout to Solidcore for putting me on Oribe).

I hot oil my hair every Sunday morning and wash it out Sunday night, and I just use Redken shampoo and Oribe conditioner to keep it healthy. I massage my scalp with the shampoo in the shower then comb it out with conditioner. I know it scientifically doesn’t really make sense, but I noticed rapid hair growth when I implemented the Redken shampoo. When I know I’m going to be showing my hair and want to focus on shine, I use the Kerastase in-shower products.

After the shower, I use the Kerastase glaze milk and elixir ultime if I’m just going to brush it out and put it in a braid. If I’m going to define my curls to show them, I go in with the glaze cream and use the glaze drops to break the curl cast. I can’t be bothered with complex finger coiling and such so I just clump big sections with a Denman and pray. Every night, I use the genesis serum and the night serum and my hair has never been softer. I’m also seeing new hair growth which is really annoying because I always look electrocuted.

I’m still in the process of testing the K-18 mask and looking for a good flexible gel because the Kristen Ess one I was using isn’t doing it for me.

Have any of your girlies bought this steamer for your hijabs and do you like it?

I just placed an order because my current steamer (third pic) is driving me nuts, it only steams vertically otherwise it leaks water everywhere and it doesn’t really work for other fabrics😭 But I keep seeing comments saying the TikTok shop steamer ads use filters to make the clothes look smoother than they are so I’m hoping it’s actually effective

On Season 1 Ep 4 of “The Other Bennet Sister” and I can’t say that I’m a huge fan

The whole production reads a lot like fan fiction (probably because it is). The characters are OOC and the acting at times is unbelievable and unpleasantly reminiscent to Birdgerton (derogatory).

For example, we know Charlotte to be a pragmatic realist who seizes opportunities, but to write her as a manipulative villain is certainly a choice, even with Dr. Octavia Cox’s readings indicating that Charlotte orchestrated more than she let on. We know Mrs. Bennet to be an unregulated, out of touch woman, but not one who is malicious or conniving.

The whole setting seems to rely on flattening everyone else to make Mary shine, which is wholly unnecessary.

Anyways, it’s cute, it’s entertaining. I really enjoy the concept of highlighting Mary’s journey into womanhood and will be finishing the series. I just wish the acting and plot were up to par with the impeccable set design and cinematography.

Died and went to fragrance heaven

…AKA Ministry of Scent in San Francisco! It was so refreshing to be surrounded by genuine fragrance enthusiasts rather than pushy associates at big retailers who just try to make a quick buck off of you. I had always wanted to smell Inexcusable Evil and they didn’t carry it, but the employee went to the back to spray his personal bottle of it for me. I’m so happy with my haul and they were so generous with samples!

PLEASE TAKE MARRIAGE QUESTIONS TO R/MUSLIMMARRIAGE

Every single day my timeline is flooded with posts from this sub about marriage this, man that. Have you guys seen the other “girls with taste” subs? They completely decenter men and discuss things that are actually interesting! Hobbies, career, books, shows, self improvement, beauty treatments, fitness, cooking, etc!

We are an embarrassment! Ladies, the attention of a man is cheap and fleeting. It does not add value to our lives, nor does it fulfill us, nor does it bring us closer to Allah. The right man, one who is a positive addition to your life, will not have you posting up on Reddit about him. Please develop actual personalities and interests outside of men and marriage!

Mods, can we have a dedicated weekly thread for marriage topics so that our general timelines aren’t being flooded with just content about men?

Survived driving here for the first time! Woohoo!!

I’m from the Midwest where we hardly have viable tiny sledding hills, just moved to the Bay Area this week and ventured into SF proper today. The hills had me damn near crying, especially the ones with stop signs. I didn’t dare to park anywhere with more than a mild elevation. Going down them was fun though, felt like a Cedar Point rollercoaster! My intrusive thoughts were telling me to put it in neutral and see what happens.

Drivers were also quite courteous to me as I fumbled about, thanks guys.

Where is this baddie now?

Real ones remember Farah Dhukai and the chokehold she had on the internet. I also remember Farsali being a massive success then disappeared from retailers and then she also just fell off the face of the earth at some point. Considering that last posts were about her newborn I’m assuming that she just wanted out of the spotlight to focus on being a mom, but she is dearly missed. She was also a pioneer in highlighting South Asian and Middle Eastern beauty rituals in an industry that was very un-inclusive and homogenous at the time.

I hope you’re well, Farah!💗✨

Jealousy and negativity on this sub?

Every day I scroll through here in awe of these stunning, expensive homes that people are managing to acquire in this economy, so inspired and proud to see y’all win despite so much leveraged against us.

This experience is consistently tainted by the annoying naysayers in the comments who either want to nitpick minute details because they’re bitter or fabricate some sort of catch because they can’t fathom someone else doing better than them. I can’t even imagine being the one showing my accomplishment and having to assuage the salty feelings of others for doing so.

It’s the same pattern that I’ve noticed every time - people in this sub who show their very modest homes are met with extensive support and encouragement and those with more expensive homes are met with jealousy and disdain. I’m poor myself and I can’t imagine being anything other than inspired and happy for those doing better than me. Can we all do better and not make posting in this sub a minefield for a certain category of buyer?

Best cherry tomatoes (and produce in general)?

Good people of Cupertino, I just moved to CA this week and today I ventured to Costco in Sunnyvale to stock up on Cherry tomatoes, my favorite snack. The product that I found there was ABHORRENT. Wrinkled, moldy, broken and dirty packaging. I turned around and walked out tomato-less.

Where is the best place to get good cherry tomatoes and other produce? I love Costco because it’s such a great price for a large quantity, but it’s looking bleak here. California is supposed to have such excellent produce, so I know it’s out there somewhere. Please direct me?
