Kudos to the crew on UA1762 last night. Also, some people suck!

We had a medical emergency upon landing. Some lady wasn't feeling well to the point that the crew opted to keep everyone seated and have EMS respond. The jagoff and his wife sitting next to me in 14C and 14B dared not listen to the crew, were pissed off that the crew opted to keep everyone in place, were abusive to the crew, and kept getting in the way using the restroom going up and down the aisle despite being told to remain seated, saying he has a small blatter, yet never used the restroom while we were in the air. They were peeved that we waited for EMS because he and his wife were inconvenienced that they couldn't immediately get off the plane, as well as we were initially delayed because the Captain decided to add some gas as we were dealing with inbound monsoons (another great safety call) while we were waiting for some late connecting passengers to get on.

He's clearly a boomer; I gave him a piece of my mind on the way off the plane that some things are more important than his comfort when someone's life is potentially involved. It irks me that people like that have no compassion to help, and it's all about "meeeee." Tell me you're a terrible person without telling me that. Clearly he did not understand the multiple calls the crew made to keep their passengers safe and give the crew and us multiple options should anything crazy happen.

The crew handled the situation extremely well and got high fives from this 1K as I was exiting. I have seen it all. This guy was way out of line and clearly needs to learn what patience is. He was telling the flight attendants he's gonna never going to fly United again. If it were me, I would give him what he wants, and I would have put him on the United no-fly list. I get you're upset, but you're upset for the WRONG reasons and be thankful you have a crew that cares about the passengers as this crew does. What a dushebag.

HBO Max and HDR/Dolby Vision is a mess on youtubetv.

So I discovered tonight that I am no longer getting Dolby Vision / 4K content on HBO Max despite paying for HBO Max and the 4K add-on.

If you subscribe to HBO Max and the 4K add-on, you should get access to this, in my opinion, as now HBO is devaluing its linear customer base and the fact that I am paying for access to both through YouTubeTV.

For the record, I approached HBO about this and was told I needed to upgrade via YTTV, despite having no such path, and subscribing to the most expensive content already, both HBO Max via the Entertainment Plus and 4K Plus add-ons.

Honestly, I think I might end up ditching both over this.

Can get 1Gbps on Quantum but not 2 or 3 gig.

I am curious to why I can’t upgrade to 2 or 3 gig. In Tucson and was one of the first to get fiber. Now, were on Quantum with a Q1000k and its connected to my UDMP at 10 gig. The bottleneck seems to be when ever I go to upgrade, the website says all I can get is up to 1gig speeds and 2 gig or 3 gig services are not available despite the app saying it is. Why is this?

Did Clear really make me click five diffrent times to cancel. LMAO!

I travel quite often and have found TSA Digital ID to be way quicker than Clear ever was. To me, it's not worth renewing, and in the past 6 months, every airport that had Clear also had Digital ID. I haven't found any real benefit to keeping Clear. I went to cancel, as they want to charge me 129 bucks for being a United 1K member, and they made me click 5 different times with various "boogie man" approaches of you will wait in long lines. None of it was true with Digital ID, even in ATL, where that line was drastically quicker than Clear.

I just dont see it anymore, and crazy that you have to click that many times; just cancel me or make it worth keeping ya!

Who says you can’t have a tower in an HOA!

I wanted to go through my experience in building my tower in my HOA and the entire build process. I’ve spent the last few months doing a massive structural overhaul on my home station here in Tucson.

The desert weather and summer monsoon winds are no joke, so I wanted to engineer this thing right so I don't have to worry about it when the storms roll through.

I put together a video walking through the whole initial build and maintenance that involve tearing down the stack and rebuilding. Here a quick rundown of the hardware for the antenna geeks:

Mast & Turning: Went with a 4130 chromoly steel mast supported by a DX Engineering TB300 thrust bearing. It's all being turned by a heavy-duty Yaesu G-2800DXA planetary gear rotator and controlled via a microHAM ARCO.

The Stack: Currently flying an OptiBeam OB10-5M, an InnovAntennas Delta C-140, and a Cushcraft D40 dipole.

Grounding: Sweated the details here. Put in a multi-rod linear copper grounding ring and bonded the whole setup straight to the house's UFER ground.

I probably went a little overboard on the structural and electrical design, but I figure it’s better safe than sorry when dealing with heavy metal in the air.

If you're interested in the nuts and bolts of how it all came together, you can check out the video on my channel on Youtube that I am starting up.

I’d love to hear what you guys think of the setup, or if anyone else is running a similar OptiBeam/Cushcraft stack. Happy to answer any questions about the grounding or the rigging process!

I’ve also broken up the videos into segments on YouTube. If watching a 30 minute video is too long for you! I have plans on other future videos as well as I get into Satellite work and other fun projects! Don’t be afraid to follow the Ham Shack Show on Youtube.

Went from 65 inch LG G3 to a 83 inch LG C6H.

I wanted to go bigger in the living room, and my kids accidentally destroyed my 55-inch Samsung in my office, throwing a baseball at the screen through my office window. Shit happens.

So, naturally, the G3 gets moved to the office. (UPGRADE) And I found an 83-inch C6H on GreenToe for 3,600. Greentoe proccess its self seemed kind of sketchy so I paid with PayPal and Amex. What drove me nuts is GreenToe only tells you the name of the retailer but offers no support on how to contact the retailer (no phone number) So I had to guess if I needed support or not. I also did not get a receipt from the retailer.

TV was slow-boated; SAIA shipping was terrible to deal with. I made an appointment, and they missed the delivery window by four days as my TV got stuck in San Antonio. Once it arrived, TV was in new condition with 0 hours.

TV itself is great. It's in a living room with windows on the west side and I have far less glare on this tv that I do with my G3. PQ in Filmmaker mode looks slightly better than my G3 and is most definitely brighter.

Overall happy with the TV, but the greentoe experience could be better.

Does anyone else's husky sleep in their kids playset?

Our husky loves being outside with our other dogs, and I noticed she loves to sleep in our kids' playset and will climb up into the house area where the slide is and take naps up there. She also will jump on our kids' trampoline to look over our fence.

We love this husky to death, but she seems to do this a lot, and no other dog of ours has ever done both of these things. Do any other dogs do this?

A bit confused about yesterdays email.

I am a proud owner of a HD Homerun 10880CA5E HDHR5-4K, aka Connect 4K (very early adopter), and aside from the ATSC 1.0 content, I have been locked out of 3.0 content except for my local PBS, which does not encrypt.

I reached out to EVERY local in Tucson about decrypting their content, as I can't get AES alerts over 3.0, and with monsoon season, flash floods happen pretty quickly here. I have to give kudos to KGUN9, as they are the ONLY station in town that actually cared to respond. Which means to me that CBS & Fox, NBC really dont care about EAS alerts or their viewers, and to me shows where their priorities are.

With that said, the announcement yesterday seems to give the vibes that I would be able to see ATSC 3.0 content through the HD homerun app. Currently running 20260710.

While I tune into them, I still see the message "The broadcaster has applied usage restrictions to this content that prevent viewing on this device." and while looking at them in HD Home Run Tech, they are encrypted.

While I had hoped that this device would give me years of viewing and content capturing for my own personal use, it seems like this has been a dud, and Silicon Dust and local channel operators have done everything they can to harm the end viewer. How am I to tune in to "Jerry Springer" if I am being prevented from viewing it anyway? Guess that Viagra advertiser isn't getting their eyeball today.

What is the status on certificates with the HD Home Run and viewing through the HD Home Run app ecosystem? I honestly feel like HD Home Run should mass refund everyone who has purchased because what it was advertised to do has fallen significantly short.

Random Ticket Master Refund for Reserve Sphere Tickets in Feburary.

Anyone else get a random refund for their Ticketmaster purchase? We're going in February, and I bought Metallica Reserve Tickets. The refund was for 175 bucks. No email or anything on what this was about.

EDIT: Found the following in my email from the Sphere. Does this mean that the level I bought is now a "lower quality level? We're in 304.

We would like to inform you that you will be receiving a partial refund in relation to the Enhanced Experience package that you purchased for this Metallica concert at Sphere.

The ticket included in your package was assigned to a different seating level than what was originally advertised in the package description.

To correct this, we have adjusted your package price to reflect the ticket level associated with the seat location selected at the time of purchase. A refund for the difference in ticket level associated with the seat location will be issued to the original payment method used for your Ticketmaster purchase. To be clear, your ticket and Enhanced Experience package are not affected in any way and are still intact.

Please allow up to 30 days for the refund to be processed and reflected on your account.

Are stations with Encrypted ATSC 3.0 Signals potentially violating federal law with EAS messaging?

I posted this in other subreddits, but I feel this deserves a post here. Blind and Deaf people are getting locked out of ATSC 3.0 EAS alerts via encryption.

I think this could and should end up in court, with every station that is encrypting its signal getting sued, and here is an alternate take on why the FCC screwed up.

An HD Home Run user (or anyone who uses any tuner to receive an ATSC 3.0 signal) who uses a tuner to receive the OTA signal and pass it along to end devices. With ATSC 1.0, nothing was required other than a decoding device to receive EAS messaging.

With ATSC 3.0, you must have an internet connection (not always accessible), and for any "non-compliant" device, you are locked out of valuable public safety information, including hearing-impaired and blind people.

FCC rules require broadcasters and cable operators to make certain emergency information accessible to persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, and to persons who are blind or have visual disabilities. This rule means that certain information about an emergency must be provided in both audio and visual formats. Encryption violates those rules by locking EAS messaging behind an encryption that can't be decoded by non-compliant devices and does not make emergency information accessible.

The only resolution is to remove encryption.

Under Title 47 CFR § 11.51 says all analog and digital radio and television stations must transmit EAS messages in the main audio channel, and all DTV broadcast stations must transmit EAS messages on all program streams. TV stations must also transmit a visual EAS message with the originator, event, location, and valid time period, and the audio portion must play in full at least once.

If a broadcaster encrypts an ATSC 3.0 signal in a way that prevents otherwise-capable consumer receivers from receiving or displaying EAS alerts, then the station may still be “transmitting” EAS technically, but it is not providing practically available emergency information to the public as the law intended. That creates a serious FCC Part 11 / Part 79 public-safety and accessibility problem.

The bottom line: A public over-the-air broadcaster is using public spectrum, is required to transmit EAS alerts, and encryption/DRM prevents members of the public from receiving emergency alerts on otherwise-capable consumer equipment. At a minimum, the FCC must require EAS alerts, EAS tests, and emergency information on ATSC 3.0 signals to be receivable without DRM authentication, internet key exchange, device approval, or A3SA gatekeeping. Until this happens, each TV station may be violating federal law, and should remove encryption until this issue is resolved by the FCC.

ARCO Support for their Antenna Controllers.

Does anyone know if ARCO has US support that if you need to send a unit to get serviced, you can send it in to? I am having issues with my Arco Microham rotator controller, which is not driving a G2800 or a G800 with a new cable, and I would like it to get serviced. Thanks.

Does the 2027 Telluride not offer 8 passenger seating?

I need 8 seats. Everything I am looking at only offers 7 on the website. If that's the case, then I'm looking elsewhere.

Anyone modifying Cband antennas for 10gig EME?

Just curious if anyone is modifying Cband antennas for 10 gig EME. I have an orthomode feedhorn on a 12-foot Prodelin fiberglass antenna. I have a IC905 with the 10 gig CX-10G transverter. I think all I need is an amp to bump up the TX and a waveguide adapter? Does that sound right?

What 10 gig amps are there?

The goal is to point the dish at the moon and be heard very loudly to make several contacts.
