Launching a consultancy for hostels, colivings, surf camps; does my approach make sense?

Hi! I'm trying to launch a consultancy agency for hostels, colivings, surf camps, and similar lifestyle hospitality properties.

Some context: I lived as a digital nomad for about four years. During that time I got to see the best and the worst of this kind of location. I met owners and founders of chains, watched properties rise and become recognized brands with multiple locations, and also watched others fall apart over stupid mistakes or just lack of passion. I also became close with volunteers and workers at a lot of these properties, so I've seen the operational side up close too, not just the business side.

Now I want to build an agency to advise people who want to start in this business, or who already have the means and want to invest in a property. The idea is to guide them on how to build the place, hire the right people, give the property soul and recognition, and help them scale.

There's a lot I want to do, but I'm not sure how to actually start. I have a partner with me, and between the two of us we have solid commercial backgrounds, plus experience in marketing, content creation, and some light programming.

My current plan is:

  1. Start by finding real pain points; what owners/managers would actually pay to solve
  2. Tailor solutions around those specific pain points instead of a generic offer
  3. Start spreading the word through community connections and owner friends we already have

Does this approach make sense? Any advice on how to validate this faster, or things I should be thinking about that I'm missing?

Thanks!!

Is a Fashion Management and Marketing master worth it?

Hi!

I'm considering doing a Fashion Management and Marketing master's program.

Some background on me: I previously worked on the commercial side of a big marketing agency, and during that time we had major fashion brands as clients (The North Face, Zalando, Levi's, Crocs). I really enjoyed that side of the work, which is what's pushing me toward this.

A few things I'd love input on:

  • What could I actually do career wise with a master's like this?
  • Has anyone here studied something similar? How was your experience?
  • Specifically, I'd be looking to study this in Spain. I used to work in the US, so I'm not that familiar with the Spanish market or how these programs/job prospects work over there.

Any advice, personal experience, or even program recommendations would be super appreciated. Thanks! :)

Me interesa escuchar:

Do you think German education has a better international reputation than Spanish education?

I wanted to ask this because I'm curious what people here think. I'm not talking about whether education in Spain is good or not, because I know it's generally very solid and complete. I mean more the perception from outside the country.

Do you feel like a German degree "carries more weight or fame?" internationally than a Spanish one, even if the actual content or quality is similar? Or do you think it's more of a stereotype?

I'm curious if this varies by field or industry, or if it's more of a general thing.

Gracias!

Posgrado: Alemania o España?

Hola!

Me gustaría escuchar experiencias y consejos

Gracias! :)

Would dropping out of a master’s program affect my chances of getting into another one in Germany?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently doing my master’s in Germany, but I’m seriously considering dropping out because I’m not happy with the program and I don’t really see value in it.

What I’m trying to understand is whether dropping out of one master’s would hurt my chances of getting accepted into another one later on, either in Germany or somewhere else in Europe; especially if I would want to transfer some of my current ECTS

Would universities in Germany see that negatively during the application process?
Do I have to explain it somewhere, or does it only matter if I want to transfer credits from the current program?

If anyone has gone through something similar or knows how German universities usually look at this, I’d really appreciate your input

Thanks :)

Does the vibe really change that much from region to region in Germany?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been living in Leipzig for a while while doing my master’s, and honestly I haven’t had the best experience here. For me, the coldness and grumpiness of people has been a bit too much. I’m also not a huge fan of the raw, very left-leaning aesthetic that kind of dominates the city (a bit similar to Berlin in that sense). On top of that, the weather hasn’t helped either it feels like most of the year it’s either pretty cold or pretty warm, but with very little of the nice in between

My ideal plan was actually to move to France or Spain and drop the program, but I’d like to maybe give Germany one more chance, especially cause of my gf

I’ve heard from a few people that places like Cologne, Koblenz, or Frankfurt tend to be friendlier, more fun, and overall a bit easier to live in. Also, maybe with slightly better weather (I’m not expecting to escape the cold, but at least seeing some blue sky in winter would be nice haha)

Do you think that’s actually true? Does the vibe really change that much depending on the region/city, or would I probably end up having a pretty similar experience anywhere in Germany?

Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from foreigners!

Thanks!!

Salida en máster en Turismo?

Buenas!

Gracias!

How to pivot careers? Seeking advice from IR grads

So basically, I got a bachelor’s in International Relations, but I never actually worked in the field because there weren’t many opportunities. Most of the ones I found required months of unpaid volunteering or internships that felt like slave labor.

Because of that, I moved into sales, and it went pretty well. I made good money and was able to live as a digital nomad. But after five years, I started getting bored of it.

I decided to do a master’s in Sustainable Development and Innovation (with a focus on management) in Germany, hoping it would help me pivot. In the end, though, I didn’t find the program very interesting or practical. I didn’t feel like I was learning any real, marketable skills, and I also didn’t really enjoy living in Germany.

Now I’m thinking about dropping out, going back to sales for the time being, and finding a different program (probably in Spain) to help me redirect my career.

At this point, I’m pretty open to different paths: marketing, tourism, science, or even learning a trade and eventually starting my own business.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s made a career switch like this, studied something similar, or just wants to share what life after an IR degree looked like for them. Thanks!

Switching Germany for Spain?

Hi everyone! I’d love to hear from people who have studied and completed a master’s program in Spain.

For context, I started my MSc in Sustainable Development & Innovation in Germany almost a year ago. Now I’m disappointed with the program, and to be honest, I don’t love the country, so I’m considering moving to Spain to take a different path.

I was already admitted to several universities in Spain during my initial application phase, so I’m confident about my chances of getting into a program there. Also I lived before in Spain as a digital nomad and loved the place!

My main question for those who have studied in Spain is: how would you rate the academic level and the practical application of your program? More importantly, did it actually help you land a job in the country?

Another big factor for me is that I am Mexican. Since my native language is Spanish and I’m eligible to apply for a Spanish passport after two years of legal residency, the long term potential is kinda appealing.

One of the main reasons I originally chose Germany was the job market, but given that things haven’t been going too well there, I’m questioning if the trade-off is worth it.
Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do I have trauma response to Germany?

I studied a postgraduate program in Germany for six months. I didn't enjoy the program itself, and from there things just got worse.

The weather was terrible all the time, the city wasn't pleasant to live in, people felt cold and judgmental, bureaucracy was a nightmare and there was a general rigidity to everything making the overall vibe of the place never aligned with me. Nothing dramatic happened, it was just a slow accumulation of things that never let up and no part of daily life that felt like relief or peace.

After that semester I did an Erasmus exchange somewhere else, which gave me some distance. But now I have to go back to Germany for about a month to handle my move out and that kinda worries me as I am not in my best emotional shape.

What made me realize something was off was recently during a weekend holiday; I met some Germans and the moment I realized where they were from I immediately wanted to end the interaction. Not because of anything they said or did just because they where german.

Anything German now triggers something close to disgust to me. The language, meeting someone from there, seeing stuff in social media, even hearing people talk positively about Germany makes me irrationally annoyed. The idea of being back there every day for a month, surrounded by all of that, is something I'm genuinely not sure how to prepare for emotionally, also cause I feel now kinda defensive.

Is this some form of conditioned aversion? A minor trauma response? I'm not in crisis, genuinely curious about the psychology behind this and whether it fades on its own or needs active work.
