Humans ruin everything... Jimothy

Jimothy the raccoon is adorable.

That's exactly why I'm worried.

I've spent over 30 years in animal rescue and welfare, and I've watched this happen over and over again. A wild animal becomes internet famous. People become obsessed. Someone posts the location. Then everyone decides they need their own photo, video, or close encounter.

History keeps repeating itself because people refuse to learn.

Remember Freya the walrus? Crowds ignored warnings, chased her, stressed her, and ultimately she was killed.

Look at Neil the Seal. Every time he shows up, people crowd him, follow him, take selfies, touch him, interfere with the very thing he's trying to do, which is exist. Wildlife officers spend enormous amounts of time protecting him... from people.

Just recently, a bear climbed a utility pole because people wouldn't stop crowding around it. Instead of giving it space to climb down safely, everyone stood there filming. The bear died after being electrocuted.

Now everyone wants to find Jimothy.

Please don't.

Don't ask where he is.

Don't share locations.

Don't go looking for him.

Don't encourage other people to track him down.

The biggest threat to most famous wild animals isn't another predator.

It's us.

And before someone says, "I just want one picture," remember that thousands of people all think they're the one harmless exception.

Wild animals don't need fans.

They need distance.

If you genuinely love Jimothy, let him stay wild. Admire him from whatever videos already exist and stop turning his home into a tourist attraction before this story ends the same way too many others already have.

Without any other context than listening to a rock station/playlist. When you hear this which song are you expecting? Having grown up loving Def Leppard and then of course getting into The Offspring in the 90s it’s always pretty much a toss up for me. I think our little generation in particular was exposed to both in similar amounts.

On edibles shopping for things I don't need, like Halloween earrings when it's 100 degrees out! These are fucking awesome!
