Did I kill it?

I started the starter about six days ago. Used a 1:1:1 ratio until yesterday when I discarded and did a 1:5:5 (don’t know why; I just heard about that ratio).

It’s been bubbling along although it never reached a true “rise” like I’ve seen pictures of. But it was showing activity.

Until I fed it yesterday. It’s just sitting there.

I’ve been using bread flour and tap water (could that be the culprit?). And it’s been out on the counter, room temp about 72 degrees.

Should I throw it away or keep going? I’ve not done anything to it today.

Best way to clean microfiber cloth

I assume I’m suppose to use a microfiber to clean my glasses. But there’s always still a smudge or film on my glasses. I’m assuming the cloth gets it built up on it? Should I hand wash it? I usually throw it in the washer. I don’t use any fabric softener or dryer sheets. I just can’t seem to get my lenses crystal clear.

Appetizer menu meals

I enjoy making a meal off of two or three apps or eating dinner off the bar/happy hour menu. Where’s your go-to for doing this?

I’m a regular diner off the happy hour menu at North Bar. Petit & Keet’s not bad either.

Name your favorite cocktail(s) in LR.

Corpse Reviver 2 at Problem Child
Anything at Raduno (their daiquiri renditions are my favorite)
Pina Colada (yes) at Camp Taco

Go.

I make CP soap for myself. I do not sell. I make a small batch every few months.

After pouring into the mold, I will often place the batch into a warm oven with the door open, oven turned off. I do this to be sure the batch reaches full gel.

Last batch when I peeked to see if it had gelled, the batch had bubbled over. I scooped the soap back into the mold and stirred. The soap “deflated” and fit back in the mold.

Best dang soap I’ve ever made. The texture is different because of the stirring and glopping it back in the mold.

Was this a quasi- hot processed soap in any way? Did the heating and stirring mimic HP? I last did a real HP twenty years ago. I didn’t like the process, but if it makes soap this good I might try again.

I’ve asked this question many times in different groups. I want a fresh set of eyes on my process.

I’ve been landscaping as a solo landscaper for a few years. Well, I have one employee that I use when I need help. My sweet spot is renovating existing landscapes by replacing old shrubs/plants with new. The infrastructure/flower beds are already there.

Pricing/estimating projects continues to be a challenge. I estimate the number of hours I think it will take to do the project and plug it into my equation. Here’s what I do —

COGS = plants, fertilizer, mulch, boulders, anything I have to purchase. I use wholesale prices in the equation.

Labor = hourly rate for me and employee

Overhead = I’ve calculated an hourly rate to cover overhead costs for running a business.

Profit = I go back and forth on how to do this. Sometimes I do it as a markup on total cost to do the project (example A below). Other times I do it as a profit margin calculation (example B below). 40% markup/profit margin are assumed.

Formula A —

(COGS + labor + overhead) + (COGS + labor + overhead)(.4) = Price to client.

Formula B —

(COGS + labor + overhead)/(1-.4) = Price to client

Formula A runs a little cheaper than Formula B.

What do you think of my approach? Any suggestions?

This happens a few times a week. My 6 year old JRT will suddenly scream out in pain and run a short distance. It can happen in any setting and on any surface. When it happens outside I always look to see that he wasn’t bitten by anything. It happens indoors, too. Just tonight I’m washing dishes and he’s several feet away. He screams and runs to the next room. I’ll find him cowering in the corner because whatever it is hurts but also frightens him. He recovers immediately after consoling him. The part that kills me is that when it happens when he is close to me, it seems he thinks I did it to him.

The only thing I can think of is that he has a history of bilateral patellar luxation. Maybe this is an episode of the patella popping and causing pain? I wish I knew what it was so I could help him.
