(SteamOS) TTW installer insists my FO3 copy is invalid, even though I bought the Steam one just for installing TTW.

Literally just bought the steam copy of the game because it wouldn't accept the Epic version. I figured fair enough, I did get it for free and shelled out for a new copy on Steam to get this mod going. I used the anniversary downgrader from Nexus as well.

Only to get the same error when attempting to install TTW unfortunately.

While I am here do I have to downgrade for New Vegas as well? The internet was less clear about that.

Launching game through F4SE did not bypass patch.

I had to pick a stupid flair that doesn't fit because Reddit. This is a heads up to SteamOS users.

So I went through the trouble of 'assuring' that Fallout and my other Bethesda games would not be borked by an update. As they are known to do. Launch it through F4SE they said. Set it to only update on launch they said.

But I did exactly that and when I quit my session on fo4 I see the ever so handy Steam Machine LED strip telling me an update was getting installed. 'Funny I don't remember authorizing any updates' I say to myself.

Care to guess what game """updated""" itself and bypassed all the needlessly elaborate shenanigans the internet put me up to like they were nothing?

Be warned, if you use a linux system, apparently the rules are different. Now I have to do god only knows what to fix it. Fuck your face, Todd.

How to stop SteamOS from 'remembering' what I was doing when I shut it down?

Preamble: This is not a big or emergent problem at all. I would like a solution if there is one, but the stakes are low.

Is there a way to stop the OS of relaunching the various windows and programs I had open when I shut it down?

I miss vanishingly fewer things about the Windows experience as I get used to the new OS, but one thing I didn't realize that I liked about it until I switched was having a fresh, empty desktop when I fire this thing up in the morning.

I could grow up, become an adult and fully shut everything down before shutting down my machine but I am hoping there is a setting I can't find somewhere that will handle this for me.

How to get SteamOS to 'run' a .bat file?

Sorry for posting this, but I am new to Linux my research hasn't gone well. A lot of people on protondb said they did different, often conflicting things and it worked for them, but I could not get any of their methods to do the job.

The game runs in it's unmodded state, but the framerate is very choppy. Everyone says the 'Juiced' mod fixed all of their problems, but it was the beginning of mine.

I am trying to get Saints Row 2 working properly with the Juiced mod on my Steam Machine but when the main .exe tries to execute the included batch file to self install the mod, no installation dialogue comes up saying that anything is done.

It loads into the game and the graphical changes and stable framerate are apparent, but it crashes quite reliably. My current theory is it's because SR2 cannot execute the installation batch file included with the patch, so when it makes calls to expected patch files/functions, it finds nothing and takes a dump instead.

How do I get SteamOS to execute this thing?

Getting simulated Windows programs to respect system resolution?

In modding games on SteamOS it is sometimes necessary to use non-steam utilities designed for Windows. Getting them set up is easy, getting them in a readable state if you have vision issues is another matter. Everything is so tiny.

How do I get non-steam programs ran through steam to respect global accessibility settings so I can read them?

Recommended particle filter for sheddy put owner?

I have read that it is a good idea to have some sort of particulate filter for your devices, especially if you have pets. Has anyone rigged one up and if so what kind of materials did you use/recommend?

Enhanced Build front end for SteamOS that is less difficult to set up than Raze?

Back when I had a crappier computer, I saw the pictures of duke using more advanced graphical features and really wanted to play it that way.

Well now I've got a better rig that can use them and I can't get Raze working because it doesn't auto detect and play my Build games right out of the box like it did on windows. It's got this needlessly complicated installation process that requires you to download all sorts of files and put them into different random directories.

Is there something that Just Works?

Recommended P8 ready Pally build?

I want to powerlevel a pally on P8 with a meta build and eventually 'ruin' it by speccing into a FoH caster build that people will definitely judge me for. What do y'all recommend?

Getting game to recognize M&KB on Steam Machine?

Anniversary Edition.

Has anyone successfully done this?

I have tried two version of Proton to (mostly) success, but I want to be FULLY successful.

-At first I tried reverting Proton to 4.11., which worked except voices/dialogue were silent.

-So then I tried Protontricks Hotfix and the voices work, but the resolution is wrong and M&KB do not.

I just want to play my game, man.

Hey guys. Old school D2 'veteran'. Just got Resurrected. Need to know things?

AS the title says, I have been playing since I got the OG game in EBGames at launch all those years ago. But I just got D2R+RotW and was wondering if there are any 'need to know' differences with the new version that might effect my playthrough experience.

I have always mained NovaNecros if there is anything granular to know about that in particular as well, but that is an aside from the main question. Yes I know many of you hate them. I have been hearing that for a *long* time.

Does anyone else catch themselves talking crap back to Raiders?

I keep catching myself at it and feeling embarrassed. My sister was walking through the room and laughed at me when I was like 'Yeah, well that remains to be seen!'. She called me a nerd and I had to own it.

Weird update issue (SteamOS)

So over the past couple of weeks OpenMW keeps coming up in Discover as needing an update. And always at *exactly* 54.1 MB. Does this mean that the original update has simply failed to apply, if so, why does it take a few days to return and say it needs to update again?

And if these are all real and necessary updates, why are they always the same size? That one is not a diagnostic question, but entirely out of curiosity.

Flashlight mod other than Flashlight++ 9.1?

It's a very fine mod but for some reason it's very simple light makes the game drop frames like crazy. I like to play with AO on because it makes maps like Auger Zenith really pop but it can make it harder to see things you are supposed to be able to see. I would hate to have to turn that off.

Can you help a total coding non-wit mod Gun Bonsai?

I don't know anything about coding and I love this mod. My one problem is that you can slow the level rate CONSIDERABLY and still be OP by map 8-10. Or slow it to the point where it's not really fun any more.

So my idea is to take another approach: to make the increments by which you can increase individual stats much smaller across the board. This way you can get those wonderful 'number go up' feels and not trivialize the game a third of the way through a megawad.

If you think you can talk a non-coder through how it is done? If so, I'd appreciate your thoughts. If not, totally understandable.

Change load order of mods for Linux ZDL?

So far I can see nothing on the interface that lets you do so. You have to drag and drop your mods in the correct order or start all over. Not ideal.

How do I use equalizer to compensate low end consumer speaker bass overemphasis?

Hello everyone.

I am getting a soundbar set up for my TV and as is the norm with these things concerning modern entry level consumer speakers, they go far too ham on the bass. I am a midrange guy personally, and I have a roommate I actually like having around.

What are the eq. settings I should be concerning myself with most to tone down the bump so that Haydn sounds as good as Biggie? I understand very little about this stuff.

TIA

Modding with Linux (entirely new to OS)

Hey assembled Morronerds (self included);

My dear old PC with my decades long modlist is dead (dead to me anyway, some skooma addict broke into our house) taking my peace of mind and my safe game with it. I am now looking at the daunting task of piecing it together from memory and gods help me on that one, lol.

But I am not here to complain, I am here because I don't know how this computer works or how to mod OMW on it yet. Does the process have further complications or provisos I should be aware of?

My search has not been as fruitful as I would like in this age of seo and AI and am hoping that someone who has forged ahead already can give me some pointers.

Is anyone like me and has played this for literally thousands and thousands of hours and never actually finished the game?

My Morrowind "playthroughs" are always the same:

-I start a new guy, because it's been a long time and I don't remember where I am at and the experience is not 'fresh' in my mind.

-Play the beginning. Get in good with a guild, get the artifacts I need for my build.

-Become a nigh unkillable death god by power leveling.

-Get bored with the game because the opposition is not even a speed bump any more.

-Lather, rinse repeat.

Edit: We can discuss this without spoilering. Right?
