Places to Play Table Tennis in South Kolkata?

Last played table tennis in college (non-competitively) and loved it. Dying to play again.

Not talking about being taught. Just want to play.

Please suggest places in South Kolkata where it can be done, for not too much money.

What Tyre to Switch to?

Elevate ZX, comes with MRF Wanderer tyres. Have heard a lot of complaints about excessive road noise with this tyre, so would like to change them right after taking delivery, to get maximum value in exchange.

Dealer cannot ensure Bridgestone tyres on delivery.

Priorities (not in order):

  1. Noise reduction
  2. Longevity and puncture protection
  3. Safe grip
  4. Unconditional warranty (sounds nice, is it actually useful?)

How much to expect out of stock tyres?

Please share if you have any experience with any of the tyres mentioned, or tyre upgrade on this car.

EDIT: One tyre dealer I spoke to is offering ₹5k for stock tyres.

Elevate CNG Kit Feedback

https://preview.redd.it/i8hjbhl1blih1.jpg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3253b48c001c86a2525e6f9f4cf61e915abc879f

Considering getting a CNG kit fitted to a Honda Elevate at the dealership, which can reduce the running cost considerably. Apparently, these kits are BS6.2 ready and don't void the factory warranty.

Want feedback from people who have actually done and experienced this. Please also advise on the maintenance and upkeep.

Why we don't just get a Victoris CNG:

  1. Underpowered
  2. Cramped, almost claustrophobic at the rear
  3. Feels tacky and not as well put together

Victoris VXi CNG

We were initially considering the Elevate, but the running cost is forcing us to rethink. People are also advising to not get a CNG kit fitted (which would have made things a whole lot easier) and to instead go for the Victoris/Grand Vitara.

I'll be honest: we did not, and do not, like this car.

  1. The rear feels cramped both in height and width
  2. Only 5 gears. Brezza gets 6 now and should be faster.
  3. Sceptical of highway and even city performance
  4. In general does not feel as well put together as the Elevate. Interior feels tacky.
  5. Only 2 door speakers in VXi? Seriously??

But we are willing to give this another chance, since this is still a very sensible choice.

  1. Ride quality is probably the best in this segment
  2. Factory fitted CNG provides a lot more peace of mind than a dealer installation

My only real concern is the performance, particularly around 80 kmph and beyond. Top speed on the nearby highways is 120 kmph and we intend to honour that. Beating on a strained engine on the highway is not a good thing to do on road trips.

All the instrumented tests are much too underwhelming, and CNG will be worse.

People who have this car and in this guise, how has your experience been?

Please Help me Negotiate

Honda Elevate ZX MT

We were primarily looking at VX, so estimate for ZX wasn't made as detailed, but it's 64k more than VX after discounts.

They are running an offer for the month of August: discount + some add-ons.

Have already opted out of ambient lighting to save ~6k.

What else can be done here?

Test Drive Thoughts and Questions

After a few test drives and a lot of thought, we have decided to go for an Elevate ZX MT.

Currently we drive a Baleno, another good car with a fantastic engine, so I'll be comparing with that.

  1. Low down torque and tractability is superb

  2. The shape of the bonnet makes it really easy to place the car

  3. Seats are supportive. Love the lumbar support.

  4. NVH: Not a problem. Baleno's engine is easily louder (a vocal engine is never a bad thing).

  5. Engine felt a bit more linear than what I was expecting, given its legendary status

  6. Gear shifts are really notchy. Baleno's shifter is a lot smoother, it's no comparison. I was struggling to shift into Reverse.

  7. Baleno's headlight are a lot brighter, with better spread too. Elevate's headlights are weak, not sure how big of a problem it will be on night long road trips.

Adjustable Rear Headrests in HTE var?

KIA did us dirty by not providing something as important yet elemental as adjustable headrests in the rear. They provided so much, but not this.

The HTE(O) variant does not make much sense IMO, considering this is the only upgrade I care about on it.

Any way of getting it? Like swapping th whole rear seat assembly for the one with the headrests?

Please Help me Choose

  1. Budget: ~15 lakh

  2. Car will be used for regular office commute within the city, and long road trips once or twice a year.

  3. Good chassis and highway manners, to keep fatigue to a minimum on road trips.

  4. Engine must not be weak and fatigue inducing.

  5. At the same time, fuel economy is also a concern, but I understand one can't get everything.

  6. Feel free to suggest any other car in this budget, and please do mention its pros and cons. No TATA.

  7. Please don't bombard with NCAP ratings.

--X--

  1. Seltos HTE(O) over HTE, 12.8 lakh, only because of adjustable rear headrests. Neither as fast or ultimately reliable as the Elevate, nor is the chassis as good as the Duster.

  2. Elevate V probably has the best engine here and no sunroof! But not sure of road manners or electronics.

  3. Duster Evolution because the 1L is reportedly weak, but manual AC. New product, so not sure of reliability or support.

Not considering Victoris either because it's reportedly too slow.

Brezza 1L makes sense on paper but 1. Unsatisfactory suspension, and 2. Not appealing enough.

Career Choice Messing Up my Life

I am a recently graduated dentist with my own clinic in a tier-1 city. Currently I work there for 4 hours in the evening. With this arrangement, I am just making rent and OpEx. This is, of course, not ideal.

My mornings are spent at home trying to prepare for government jobs. I say trying because although the syllabus is relatively easy, I simply cannot study everything as efficiently as before. My concentration has reduced, anxiety is running riot and there are a lot of things on my mind now. So I don't know if I can clear it.

If I do work at my clinic in the morning, there is a chance of the revenue increasing, but study time will potentially reduce. Not that I can study all the time anyway.

I never wanted to be a doctor. Since I don't like what I do and don't derive satisfaction from it (many do and I can understand why), I'm looking only at the money, which is simply not there.

Not that most government jobs are glamourous or satisfying either.

Since whatever I choose to do at this point, I don't think I can ever be satisfied in life. It only follows that there is no point in living.

I only live with the burden of being good at something I don't like.

Need Help Leveling Up my Practice

Hello doctors.

My dental clinic is 5 months old now, in a tier-1 city in India. I'll be frank here, I'm just making rent and associated operational costs. This is not feasible in the long term.

Current problems (apart from low patient flow):

  1. Some patients don't want to pay in full: My charges aren't high, but I can't help but feel that somehow my patients don't feel like they would be getting their money's worth. More on this later.
  2. Patients don't want incremental care: They just want their chief complaint addressed immediately, and most of them don't come for follow-up so I can suggest/advise. This is why I've had to do very few fillings and prophylaxes so far. Maybe my method of talking needs to change, but how?
  3. I'm unable to build up a good relationship with many of my patients: A handful of my previous patients have kept in touch. Most of them don't come back after their treatment is done. I don't know how they are, and this works up my anxiety. I am fairly confident in my treatment, but so many missed follow-ups is taking a toll.
  4. Clinic may not look as good/upmarket as few others: Facilities are present but maybe the appearance is a turn off. Walls and glass panes are clean but blank, not enough seating (don't need as much right now to be honest). Materials are good, but need to get it across to patients.
  5. Maybe my personality needs to change: By habit I don't talk much, and I'm not someone with a particularly "warm and caring" personality. I am not rude either, just professional. I try to accommodate patient's requests if I can.
  6. There are 4 other dental clinics in the vicinity: This can't be helped now, except for maybe shifting my clinic to some tier-2 or tier-3 town. I may have to do this if things don't start looking up eventually.

Currently I call in an endodontist to do the RCTs, to maintain good quality of treatment, so this also puts a dent on my earnings.

Running a practice on my own is not something my college prepared me for. I more or less understand my shortcomings, not blaming patients solely. But after some encounters, I'm left with a somewhat lowly impression of the local population.

My practice is listed on Google Maps but isn't on social network, but does that really matter?

Please, I need help. Any advice, any suggestion would be immensely appreciated!

Starting to think this may have been a terrible career choice.

How to Hasten Healing of Extraction Sockets for Prosthetic Rehab?

Its been 5 weeks since I extracted some teeth on this patient. Extraction was atraumatic and uneventful. Everything was done under sufficient antibiotic coverage. Still the mucosa over the extraction sites has not closed fully.

I keep advising saline rinses, as is the norm, but the patient is facing difficulty chewing and is getting impatient. Anything I could have done during extraction or after to expedite the healing process?

BTW the patient is diabetic with HbA1c 8.6%, which is surely impeding it.

Tips for Beginner, Please

Gilette safety razor that I use.

I used to trim my facial hair, have just started shaving. The process is not smooth at all. I need to go over the same place 2-3 times to get the razor to glide smoothly over it. It seems to choke and skip over the lathered skin after a bit of shaving.

Any tips to expedite and/or improve my shaving would be really appreciated.

I tend to take a shower after shaving, and wash my face with soap. Should aftershave be used before of after it?

Vivaldi for Windows ver. 8.1.4087.48

I've always appreciated Vivaldi, but this change absolutely infuriates me. Same happened with Opera. It used to good, but then they started introducing bloat in the name of features and ultimately lost me as a user. If this continues, I might have to start a browser hunt all over again.

How to remove these ridiculous, ugly, wasteful elements? These settings seem to have no effect on this.

Feeling Sad

My younger brother is going away to another city for college for 4 years, and I'm feeling sad. My baby cousin sister is also going away with her family. Used to just drop by at their place, and it felt good, can't do it anymore.

Feeling sad.

Being a Doctor Should Not Have to be This Hard

Dentist here.

College has prepared us for many of the things that people suffer from, yet I can't seem to accept that the people who were once my friends no longer seem to be so.

This degree has taken so much: hobbies, money, time, friendships. 💔

No longer feel like a functioning human being.
