If Half the Population Has An IQ Below 100, How Are Majoring in STEM or Going to Trade School Going to End Poverty?

The left (usually) wants to deny IQ entirely and claim it’s just a tool by racists and the right tends to acknowledge it, but then argue that it can be overcame with hard work, but if a person’s processing speed is just inherently lower, how are they to succeed? (Admittedly, some trades probably don’t take an IQ of 100.)

Tom Sawyer Might Have Been Able to Say “This Ain’t the Mississippi River”, But I Can’t.

At Confluence Point State Park in West Alton, Missouri, so a bit further south than the Hannibal Tom was from. Frowning’s still a state sport tho.

It’ll Never Be Possible For Me to Look at This and Not Just See the Rock Hill McDonald’s of Yesteryear.

Even the location of the drive-thru just makes it look like a McDonald’s painted over to look like a bank.

If Climate Change is So Bad, It Makes No Sense to Worry About a Demographic Crisis.

The media is saying that the planet is going to become uninhabitable via climate change, while simultaneously complaining about not enough babies being born.

Why is this not a cause for celebration? If the world is becoming a cabin on fire, wouldn’t it be good that less metaphorical logs are being brought into it?

How is Living in Memphis, Tennessee?

I remember driving through there and seeing the pyramid from a distance while coming back from Great Aunt’s convent in Jackson, Mississippi, but my parents never stopped to show us the place.

How is Living in Baltimore

I hear it’s got a lot less Saint Louis, Missouri energy than it used to? It’s on the up and up like Detroit?

I Would Love to See a Sean Baker Remake of the Belgian Film Rosetta (1999).

Have it be set in Manhattan or somewhere with a lot of businesseses and have the main character obsessed with being employed almost to the point of religious adherence but with lots of economic realism.

It was quite a critique of the Protestant work ethic/Ayn Rand-type mindset. And they made it in Catholic Belgium.

Thoughts on Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)?

It was my first Jim Jarmusch film after I found out Paterson (2016) really was just an earlier Perfect Days (2023) and I didn’t need to essentially re-watch it. I know the director of that Finnish movie Fallen Leaves (2023) likes Jarmusch and it shows because that movie was a lot like this one in plot and tone. It’s also the only other movie set in Detroit I’ve seen behind It Follows (2014). It’s got Loki and the mom from We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011).

Do You Think The Idea of Hell As Eternal Conscious Torment Was Invented as a Way to Keep Poor People From Self-Deletion?

“Endure your misery. Don’t put yourself out of it. If you do, it’s gonna get worse than you could possibly imagine!”

And it’s not just a Christian or Islamic thing. Buddhism even has a hell in some denominations, so it seems to be a universal form of psychological torture to get people to endure their lot.

If nothing else, it is good that the fear of hell probably does prevent a lot of self-deletions, but it’s also a sad thought.

A Young Sateré-Mawé Man During a Tucandeira ritual

“The Sateré-Mawé people intentionally use bullet ant stings as part of their initiation rites to become a warrior. The ants are gathered from their homes by the men of the community, while the women and children gather cashew leaves. The ants are first rendered unconscious by submerging them in a natural sedative and then hundreds of them are woven into a glove made out of the cashew leaves (which resembles a large oven mitt), stinger facing inward. When the ants regain consciousness, a young male initiate slips the glove onto his hand. The goal of this initiation rite is to keep the glove on for a full ten minutes. When finished, the boy's hand and part of his arm are temporarily paralyzed due to the ant venom. In addition to suffering severely extreme and intense pain, he may hallucinate and shake uncontrollably for days. The only "protection" provided is a coating of charcoal on the hands, supposedly to confuse the ants and inhibit their stinging. To fully complete the initiation, however, the boys must go through the ordeal a total of 20 times over the course of several months or sometimes even years.”

It’s a Testament to the Quality of Modern Medicine That So Many Obese Boomers Are Still Around

In times of old, you probably wouldn’t have lasted to old age while obesity-possessing due to diabetes or cardiac arrest. Now, Medicare pays for the disastrous consequences of the evidently excessive caloric intake of the Baby Boomers of America. We should tip our hats to doctors for allowing such unhealthy lifestyles to go relatively punishment-free.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) is Kind of Mid TBH.

This is my “I did not care for The Godfather” take.

I understand why people enjoyed it and it did have good writing, but it just didn’t land. I don’t like Jim Carey or Kate Winslet, so maybe a remake would work better. Apparently, it shows BPD in a more realistic way than Anakin, so that’s cool.

I know they remade Breaking Bad in Spanish in Colombia. Maybe this would be a good candidate, as it’s so well-loved.
