**PRIORITY PLACEMENT—MEDICAL**

Darling little cutie pie SWAYZE was found all alone in Brooklyn, trying his best to navigate the world with limited vision. Even so, this brave boy has tolerated gentle handling, and he’ll happily tell you that treats are the key to his heart. Sudden movements near his head can startle him because he simply can’t see well enough to understand what’s coming. Unfortunately, Swayze is in significant pain from his eye disease, and he’s also struggling with a few other medical concerns. His prognosis is good with proper diagnostics and treatment including an enucleation as soon as possible. This sweet, little soul deserves comfort and a soft place to land. If you can open your home and heart to him, please message our page today to apply to foster or adopt. Swayze will be coming off stray hold soon, and he needs his hero waiting.

SWAYZE, ID 254256, 13 years old, 20 lbs., Male

Owner surrender reason: Date of Intake: 11-May-2026: Stray
Behavior Assessment Rating: TBD

Medical Behavior: tolerated basic handling, food motivated, tried to bite when head touched—he has limited vision—so he was muzzled for rest of exam.

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me.

I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together!

I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

1yr old Kwik is on 5/23 euthanasia deadline 🚨 NYC Shelter 🚨

Please comment share pledge foster adopt rescue

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26
Social, playful, friendly and engaging, this sweet boy lost his home when his owner was arrested. He is at the shelter through NO FAULT OF HIS OWN. Please consider giving him a home by fostering or adopting Kwik. He is eager to share all his love with you. MESSAGE OUR PAGE for assistance.

A STAFF MEMBER WRITES:
Meet Kwik! Kwik came into the shelter when his owner was no longer able to care for him. He is a social, treat-motivated boy who enjoys interacting with people once he feels comfortable. With familiar handlers, he comes forward readily and shows a friendly, engaging personality.

KWIK OUT WITH FRIENDS IN HIS CUTE TURQOISE SCARF! Look what a great walker he is! He loves treats and pets too! <3 https://youtu.be/Enq-Iv5rmKA?si=g5zeDH5y90xnEGrt

Personality
Kwik is outgoing and people-focused, often approaching for attention and responding well to treats. He can show some tension in certain situations, especially around toys or when unsure, but overall he enjoys being handled and included once he settles in.

My Ideal Home
Kwik would do best in an adult-only home with calm, structured environment. He will benefit from adopters who can give him consistency and time to build confidence. Positive reinforcement and routing will help him feel more secure and succeed long term.

Good with Other Pets?
Kwik has shown no issues with dogs while on leash, though slow introductions are still recommended. He will do best with thoughtful management as he adjusts to a new home environment.

Good with Kids?
Kwik is recommended for an adult-only home at this time due to fearful responses in new or overwhelming situations.

Things to Know
Kwik walks nicely on leash and stays engaged with his handler. He enjoys interaction and treats, and while he can be a bit unsure at times, he responds well to gentle guidance. He benefits from clear structure and a predictable routine.

Fun Fact!
Kwik may take a minute to warm up, but once he does, he’s ALL IN for attentions and snacks. Kwik just needs a little time to click.

Owner Surrender Reason: 4/4/26 – Owner arrested

AT RISK MEMO:
Kwik is at risk due to behavioral reasons. He arrived at MACC an owner surrender due to his owner no longer being able to care for him. Kwik has been observed to be highly dog reactive and has been noted to snarl, pull hard and fixate on other dogs while in the yard. When handlers attempt to switch Kwik to a slip lead he is noted to jump up with an open mouth and snap. In the kennel room, he is observed to pull hard towards other dogs while barking.

However, with handlers, Kwik has a loose body and climbs up next to them on the bench. He is a social, treat-motivated boy who enjoys interacting with people once he feels comfortable. With familiar handlers, he comes forward readily and shows a friendly, engaging personality. Medically, Kwik is apparently healthy.

He observes a dog and he hard stares at them. He is able to be redirected by calling to him and giving him a treat. It is not fully effective. Kwik is walked back inside and to his kennel. He lunges at a passing pop up as he approaches his kennel. Kwik is returned to kennel without further issue.

Summary (6): 5/6/26: Kwik is reported to be kennel reactive; he pulls towards and barks at the kennels while exiting. He is also noted to jump up with an open mouth or snap when the dragline is being switched with a regular leash in the yard.

5/3/26: Kwik is standing at the front of his kennel with a wagging tail and loose body. He takes treats and is easily leashed. He is lead out of the building and relieves himself in the elevator. Once on the street, he walks ahead of the handler with a neutral body. He relieves himself again. He is next to a loud truck backing up but does not react. He passes a cat and also does not react. He pulls hard back to the shelter and through the kennel room, then gets in his kennel willingly.

4/29/26: Kwik is observed to lick his kennel bars as the room is active. He is also noted to be kennel reactive, as he pulls hard towards the dogs he passes, especially the one next him in kennel (Caffrey).

4/26/26: It is reported that Kwik is fixated, snarling, and pulling hard towards other dogs while in the yard. This behavior is not easily redirected.

4/23/26: Kwik is at the front of his kennel with a loose body; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. The handler brings Kwik into the yard for playgroup (see dog-dog notes). Afterwards, the handler brings Kwik into another yard. Kwik, presenting a loose body, jumps onto the bench, next to the handler; he then climbs on top of them and attempts to lick their face. Kwik sniffs around and relieves himself. He watches dogs pass by with a neutral body. After, Kwik walks back inside the shelter. The leash is easily pre-clipped and he is brought to kennel. Kwik startles and begins to pull away from the kennel. Handler tries some treats but he continues pulling away. With slight leash pressure Kwik comes forward and quickly jumps into the kennel and is returned without issue.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake: 4-Apr-2026
Summary: Tense and growling.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial: 5-Apr-2026
Summary: Hard barking; tense; not interested with treats; high FAS.

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Kwik so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 4

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Single-pet home
Recommend no dog parks

Recommendations comments:

No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend an adult only home.

Single pet home/ No Dog Parks: Due to his on leash reactivity and dog dog interaction, we recommend that Kwik not visit dog parks.

Potential challenges:
Resource guarding
Basic manners/poor impulse control
Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:

Resource Guarding: Kwik is observed to become tense and move away with a toy in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Kwik's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding.

Basic Manners: After warming up to handlers, Kwik is observed to jump up on them with a loose body. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners.

Fearful Defensive: When Kwik arrived at the care center he was observed to be highly fearful. Noted to hard bark and growl at handlers with a tense body. It is important to move slowly with Kiwk, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression.

On Leash Reactivity: Kwik has been observed to snarl, pull hard and fixate on other dogs while in the yard. This behavior is not easily redirected. Kwik will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

4yr old Mikey is on 5/23 euthanasia deadline 🚨 NYC Shelter 🚨

Please comment share pledge foster adopt rescue

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1aarrGUmRY/?mibextid=wwXIfr

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26
A Volunteer Writes: "As I watch back my videos of Mikey, I hear myself saying “Mikey!!” And You’re a good boy” over and over again. I say that a lot at the shelter. One, because it’s filled with good boys and good girls. And, two, because sometimes dogs come in that make me think they haven’t been told this enough or maybe even ever. Though we have no history for Mikey, we can only infer he falls into the latter group: between the lack of physical care he’s had and being brought in by police after roaming Brooklyn alone. Still, Mikey stays optimistic. He is loose and wiggly and oh so playful. In fact, it’s so hard to get good video of him because he’s a blur of happiness. He loves toys and seems to TREASURE the fish plushy we have to offer him. No matter what path Mikey’s trajectory takes, at least he will know that someone thought he is a VERY GOOD BOY!

Though Mikey was described as very friendly and outgoing by the police who brought him in, he has shown sensitivity around being collared and leashed. For this reason, he is at risk and available through a New Hope Rescue partner. Medically, he has suspected allergies and alopecia around his eyes for which he is being given apoquel. Mikey is approx. 4 years old, 57 pounds and his ID is #252968."

THE VOLUNTEERS MADE THIS ADORABLE REEL FOR MIKEY. What a cutie pie!
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BC651DkxD/

MIKEY, Id 252968, @4 Yrs. Old, 57 lbs., Male
Queens ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Brown
Owner Surrender Reason: 4/26/26 - Stray
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No children under 13
Place with a New Hope Partner
Medical Behavior Rating: 4. Orange

AT RISK MEMO:
Mikey is at risk due to behavioral concerns. While Mikey has been sociable during most interactions – loose bodied, leaning into petting along his body after he has chosen to solicit – he has presented with sensitivity around his neck. Mikey had escalated to growling and snapping during attempts to collar him for a handling assessment and intermittently when clipping leads to return him to the kennel. Medically, Mikey has alopecia, dental disease, pyoderma and an ear infection.

Mikey came into the care center as a stray. Mikey has no acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. Mikey will approach for petting but will quickly become overstimulated. We recommend placement with a New Hope Partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

INTAKE NOTES – Date of Intake: 26-Apr-2026
Upon intake Mikey was friendly and outgoing with counselors allowing all handling such as scanning for microchip and collaring. He then walked back to medical where he was vaccinated and entered his kennel without any assistance. All done without any concerns.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION:

BEHAVIOR NOTES

Date of intake:: 4/26/2026
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray(Unknown History)

SHELTER ASSESSMENT SUMMARIES:
Date of assessment:: 5/2/2026

Summary:: 5/15/26: Mikey is taken to the behavior office for a handling assessment. He approaches the assessor with an open mouth, panting and wagging tail. He takes treats from the handlers. When attempts are made to collar him, he jumps at the assessor, low growling. Due to this, a handling assessment will not be conducted at this time.

5/2/26: Mikey is currently unable to undergo a handling assessment due to his ongoing medical concerns. He was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior in a home setting is unknown. In the Care Centers,During mikey medical exam, he is noted to display a loose and wiggly but starts to growl when being touched and escalates to hard barking and lunging. His determination is reflected in the limited behavioral information we've gathered and observed. However, it’s unclear whether his behavior will remain consistent or if new behaviors may emerge once he is fully medically cleared. Positive reinforcement should be used when working with Mikey

Summary (7):: 5/15/26: Mikey is standing at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and is then taken to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he has a tense body as he sniffs around. When the handlers attempt to collar him, he snaps at the collar. He is able to be taken away and is then taken back to his kennel with no further issues.

5/14/26: Reported via whiteboard that Mikey can be very sweet with patience and extra coaxing

05/12/26: Mikey is standing at the front of his kennel and allows the handler to leash him with ease. He is then brought outside to the play yard for an enrichment outing. Once inside the yard, a drag leash is placed on him, and he begins exploring the environment freely. After exploring, Mikey practices sit cues with the handler. He demonstrates difficulty understanding the cue and repeatedly jumps up on the handler while attempts are made to redirect and reinforce the behavior. Despite his excitement, Mikey maintains a social and engaged demeanor throughout the session. When the session is complete, Mikey is brought back to his kennel safely without any issues.

05/05/26: Mikey is laying on his bed as the handler approaches. He walks over to the kennel door and is leashed with ease. Mikey is brought outside to the play yard. He rubs himself on the ground and the handler's legs. The handler pets him gently, and he presses himself into the handler for more pets. The handler frequently stops to do consent checks, and Mikey will continuously solicit more petting. When returning to the kennel, the handler scatters treats on the floor outside of the kennel room, and Mikey's leash is easily clipped. He is returned to kennel with no issue.

5/3: Mikey was reported to growl and attempts to bite staff when being clipped to be returned to kennel.

4/30/26 (KSV): Mikey was lying at back of kennel with his head resting on his bed and body on the floor. When he saw handler he low growled and as handler got closer to kennel he barked. Handler tossed a treat scatter into kennel and he set out sniffing to find all the treats. Once he had consumed them he sat down and looked at handler occasionally vocalizing.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake:: 4/26/2026
Summary:: friendly and outgoing with counselors allowing all handling

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial:: 4/28/2026
Summary:: loose and wiggly but starts to growl when being touched and escalates to hard barking and lunging

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations::
No children (under 13),
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments::

No children (under 13): Due to Mikey's touch sensitivity, we recommend that he be placed in an adult-only home at this time.

Place with a New Hope partner: Mikey came into the care center as a stray. Mikey has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. Mikey will approach for petting but will quickly become overstimulated. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: Due to Mikey's medical concerns, he is noted to become sensitive to touch. Handling should be adjusted to accommodate his needs, using slow, deliberate movements and minimizing unnecessary touch when possible. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity.

Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During mikey medical exam, he is noted to display a loose and wiggly but starts to growl when being touched and escalates to hard barking and lunging.Future interactions should prioritize early recognition of stress signals, low-pressure handling, and allowing breaks to help prevent escalation. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26 IN NYC

New movie 🎥 ♥️
Phantom (ID 253510), Cute lil boy!
https://youtu.be/V5yV7ZdDZbY

PHANTOM is breaking our hearts into bits. He’s a big, beautiful boy who has been betrayed by the human he trusted. In spite of his history, he has been wagging, attention seeking, smart, wiggly, gentle and he can’t get enough love from his handlers.

But his past is a tragic story, when a Good Samaritan saw a maintenance worker holding Phantom on a chain. The worker said that Phantom was fighting with other dogs, yet it was Phantom who had blood on him. We don’t know details such as if Phantom lived his whole life on the end of a chain, how he was treated, or anything else. We just know he needs you now, and that he IS a good boy. His most recent progress notes show him to be easily handled.

Because of his past, Phantom will need to go to an experienced home where he is the only pet. He will not get much time, his days are numbered as he recovers from his wounds in a shelter that’s so dreadfully overcrowded. Please consider fostering or adopting Phantom. Message our page right now and we will walk you through the process.

PHANTOM, ID 253510, 5 years old, 59 lbs., Male
Manhattan ACC, Large mixed breed, Tan/Blonde
Owner surrender reason: Date of Intake: 2-May-2026: stray, limited history
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope only
No children (under 13)
Single-pet home

AT RISK MEMO:

Phantom is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Phantom arrived at the Care Center as a stray with limited history. Phantom was reported to bite two dogs however the details of the incident are very vague. While in care Phantom has shown on-leash reactivity; he has been observed to become tense, growl, and pull hard towards dogs. With staff, Phantom was initially aloof. With time Phantom has become social with handlers, becomes loose and wiggly during contact and is now treat receptive. Medically, Phantom has alopecia, dental disease, and has lameness in the left front leg.

Phantom arrived at MACC as a stray with a limited history. It is reported that Phantom was in a bite incident with another dog. He arrived to MACC with blood on his face and body. During intake and while in care Phantom has been observed to be highly dog reactive. Noted to fixate on other dogs. Due to the detailed behavior we recommend an experienced adult only, single pet home that makes no trips to the dog park.

INTAKE NOTES—Date of Intake: 2-May-2026

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Phantom so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Single-pet home
Recommend no dog parks
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments
No children (under 13): Due to the bite incident we recommend an adult only home.

Single Pet Home/ No Dog Parks: Due to the reported bite incident we recommend a single pet home that makes no trips to the dog park.

We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges:
Bite history (dog)
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:
Bite History (Dog): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression.

On Leash Reactivity: Phantom has been observed to be highly dog reactive and fixate on other dogs while on leash. Phantom will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26 IN NYC
Billie has been placed on a medical deadline, and must exit the shelter
by tomorrow, May 23rd @ 5pm!

**A $1000 STIPEND IS AVAILABLE TO THE NEW HOPE PARTNER THAT PULLS BILLIE!**

Date of Intake: 18-May-2026

Sweet, friendly, young, little French Bulldog pup BILLIE needs immediate placement due to having a urethral prolapse. Please message our page IMMEDIATELY if you can possibly foster him for a rescue while he gets the medical care he needs ASAP outside of the shelter.

A staff member writes: It was discovered that Billie has a urethral prolapse and our vets are concerned about waiting too long for him to have it repaired. The prolapsed tissue is still viable at this time, but it is bordering on dark and they don’t want it to become necrotic. It also has been bleeding a lot every time he is removed from his kennel or otherwise aroused. Because of this, he is being placing on an EOD deadline and should leave by 5/23 @ 5pm. He does not need to go to a hospital but should see a vet/surgeon ASAP. His bloodwork is running in house right now and he is being neutered today.

2yr old Casserole is on 5/23 euthanasia deadline ‼️ NYC Shelter ‼️

Please comment share pledge foster adopt rescue

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1RMG1SLTHL/?mibextid=wwXIfr

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26
A Volunteer Writes: “It didn’t take long for Casserole to rollover and show us his belly. Just a short play sesh in the unusually hot spring heat and he was fully “baked.” We hope that we can entice him to get in the pool with a toy (we find out quickly that he LOVEs stuffies) but he’d rather cool off by laying on his side, tongue lolling. Our videos are filled with comments about how handsome he is and how much we like him and though remarks such as these are common with dogs we meet in the shelter, they are nonetheless true.

Casserole was rescued by police when he was running around Flushing, Queens. Upon intake, he was friendly and outgoing. He greeted staff with a loose, wiggly body, foot taps, a wagging tail and licked their hands when he was pet. Unfortunately, Casserole has not acclimated well to the shelter and his stress has manifested by leash biting making it difficult to walk him. He will an adult only home with who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based). During a gate greet, he was neutral when meeting a female dog, when she becomes agitated, barring teeth, Casserole shows no reaction and is easily guided away. Casserole is approx. 2 years old, 78 pounds and his ID is #253567.”

The Volunteers made a reel for Casserole. This good boy is very sweet and loves people, he is just a product of how he is housed (kennels are absolutely tiny there, and he wants to be outside and, understandably, with people). Please consider giving him a home so his life will be saved. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17Qje5oUgo/

CASSEROLE, Id 253567, @2 Yrs. Old, 78 lbs., Neutered Male
Queens ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Black/White
Owner Surrender Reason: 5/2/26 - Stray
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No children under 13
Place with a New Hope Partner
Medical Behavior Rating:

AT RISK MEMO:
Casserole is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Casserole displays high arousal behaviors including persistent leash biting, jumping at the kennel door, heavy panting, hard pulling on leash and fixation on dogs during walks. He often requires spray cheese to safely remove him from his kennel due to his leash biting. Casserole is social with familiar handlers, engages with enrichment items and is able to settle in lower stimulation environments but is struggling in the care center. Medically, Casserole is overweight.

INTAKE NOTES – Date of Intake: 2-May-2026
Upon intake Casserole was very friendly and outgoing. He greeted staff with a loose wiggly body, foot taps, a wagging tail, and licking hands when receiving pets. He was not interested in treats but allowed staff to scan and leash with ease. When removing the officers collar he began to whine and attempt to flee so staff opted not to collar due to possible neck sensitivity.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES – BASIC INFORMATION:

For a New Family to Know: Officers reported Casserole to be very friendly and outgoing with both people and other dogs.

BEHAVIOR NOTES

Date of intake: 2-May-2026
Spay/Neuter status: Yes
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home): Stray; history unknown.

SHELTER ASSESSMENT SUMMARIES:
Date of Assessment: 10-May-2026

BEHAVIOR:
Summary: Due to Cassorole's leash biting when being removed from the kennel and during walks, a handling assessment cannot be attempted at this time.

PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARY:
Summary: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded.

05/10/26
Casserole is introduced to a novel female. He approaches the gate and will sniff her with a neutral frame. The female begins to muzzle punch the gate while vocalizing and baring teeth. Casserole shows no response and is easily guided away.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:

5/18/26: Casserole is jumping, barking and heavy panting at his kennel door as handler approaches. He is able to be distracted with spray cheese for a few seconds and would then constantly approach the door and retreat to the back of the kennel back and forth. He is able to be quickly leashed when he goes back to eating the cheese again and he then pulls hard on the way outside for walk. On the walk, he continues to pull ahead while heavy panting. He would hard stare at dogs that would pass by and has no interest in treats. He pulls on the way back to his kennel and enters with no issues.

Summary (7):: 5/17/26: On several occasions, ACS staff has had issues taking Casserole out of the kennel due to excessive leash biting. Even with the use of treats and toys casserole maintains the same demeanor holding the leash and jumping up and down towards the handler. On two occasions a canine representative had to grab the leash from staff members in order to handle the situation and return casserole to the kennel.

5/17/26: ACS report on the board that he is still leash biting coming out of kennel.

5/14/26: An ACS staff member approaches behavior staff asking for more spray cheese due to his continued persistent leash biting when getting removed from kennel.

5/10 (pm): Casserole is on his kuranda bed when a handle approaches. He perks and comes to the front of the kennel, whining with a wiggly body. Casserole barks as he circles his kennel while the handler unlocks the door and sets out his spray cheese on the doorframe. He only takes a few licks before jumping on the kennel door. He is lured down to the ground, and the handler can leash him easily. He does not leash-bite and pulls to the behavior office. In the office, he is neutral-bodied and readily accepts sliced cheese. Casserole does not initiate further interaction with the handler other than taking cheese. He explores the room, ignoring the handler. Once his kennel is ready, he returns without issue.

5/9/26: Casseole is jumping, barking and heavy panting at his kennel door as handler approaches. He is able to be distracted with spray cheese on his door as the handler leashes him. Once leashed, he then pulls on the way outside for walk. On the walk, he continues to pull ahead and would hard stare at dogs that would pass by. He has no interest in treats until no dogs are in sight. He pulls on the way aback to his kennel and enters with no issues.

05/08/26: Casserole is jumping at the front of kennel as handler approaches. Handler sprays cheese along the kennel door and leashes him as he is licking. Casserole pulls hard to the canine behavior office where he readily engages with a snuffle mat, a licky mat, and will sit for treats. He is social with another handler who enters the room and will rub against their legs and lean into petting. After his session, he is returned to kennel safely.

5/7/26: Casserole was jumping at front of kennel as handler approached. At one point he was jumping from his bed to the kennel door. As handler was trying to leash he would jump and grab at leash. Handler tried treats which did not distract him and end up using spray cheese to leash. Casserole pulled hard coming out of kennel and for most of his walk. Handler offered treats during walk but Casserole was uninterested. He was returned to kennel with no issue.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake: 2-May-2026
Summary: loose wiggly, foot taps, licking hands, began whining and attempting to flee when removing collar.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial: 3-May-2026
Summary: high energy, allowed to be leashed, jumping, alligator rolling, solicits attn but need sedation for.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:

No children (under 13): Due to Casserole's leash-biting and handling sensitivity, we recommend he be placed in an adult-only home at this time.

Place with a New Hope partner: Casserole has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges:
Handling/touch sensitivity
Leash-biting
Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:

Handling/touch sensitivity | Leash-biting | Low threshold for arousal: During his medical exam, Casserole allowed being leashed but began jumping up and alligator rolling. He was noted to solicit attention, but due to his behavior, he needed to be sedated. Casserole leash bites when being removed from the kennel and once out on walks. He is difficult to redirect once aroused and over his threshold. Please see the handouts on Handling/touch sensitivity and Arousal.

1yr old Rosco is on euthanasia risk at anytime as of 5/23 🚨 NYC Shelter 🚨

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EinLiscmY/?mibextid=wwXIfr

IN GRAVE DANGER - EUTH COMMAND

*** LOVES OTHER DOGS! *** SWEET, WIGGLY, SUPER SOCIAL PUPPY!
Rosco is a super sweet, highly social puppy who wants his life to begin! He’s been soft and waggy and has tried his best to be patient, but now he is feeling stressed in his tiny kennel and wants a family of his own. Like all puppies, this baby needs further training to make him his best self. Rosco arrived as a stray, and he has spent a month at the shelter – hell on earth for one who just wants to run in the grass, feel the sun on his precious face, and explore the world. Please don’t let this boy die. If you are an experienced foster or adopter who can give him a calm, quiet, structured home hurry and MESSAGE OUR PAGE FOR ASSISTANCE.

ROSCO, Id 251864, @1 Yr. Old, 55 lbs., Male
Manhattan ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, White/Brindle
Surrender Reason: Stray, 4/12/26
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No Children under 13
Place with a New Hope Partner
Medical Behavior Rating: 2. Blue

AT RISK MEMO:
Rosco is at risk for behavioral concerns. Rosco arrived at the Care Center as a stray with no known history. Upon arrival, he was noted to be social with staff, and allowed all handling for his medical exam with a soft body. Rosco has been observed to have a low threshold for arousal. During his handling assessments he has been noted to be over-aroused, head-whipping frequently, jumping on staff, and mouthing hands. Rosco is also noted to resource guard, becoming tense and hovering over items of value in his possession. With staff, Rosco remains social, allowing all contact. Due to the detailed behavior, we recommend an experienced, adult-only home. Medically, Rosco is apparently healthy.

INTAKE NOTES – Date of Intake: 12-Apr-2026
Upon intake Rosco was friendly and would jump up on Staff for attention. In the lobby he barked loudly seeking attention while waiting. He was easily leashed and pulled but allowed muzzle for vaccines and entered kennel without issue.

PLAYGROUP NOTES - DOG TO DOG SUMMARY Summary:: 5/8/26: Rosco greets another dog at the gate with a loose and wiggly body while vocalizing. He then seeks handler attention by sitting at their feet or jumping up at them.

ENRICHMENT NOTES

05/14/26: Rosco is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he barks and jumps at the kennel door. Handler distracts Rosco with a treat which he takes very intensely. He is leashed and pulls hard out of kennel jumping up toward the leash so handler quickly shortens the leash and walks with Rosco down to the street for his walk. Outside he pulls moderately and attempts to pull forward to sniff or to approach people. He relieves himself outside and due to handler running out of poop bags another handler is called to bring more bags. When the second handler approaches, Rosco becomes tense and pulls very hard toward the handler so the bags are tossed to handler who picks up after Rosco and finishes the walk. He is returned to kennel and interaction is ended.

5/8/26 (PG): Rosco was at front of kennel jumping on kennel door as handler approached. He was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. He was taken to the back yard for playgroup. He was taken to the introduction spot and started vocalizing and scratching when he saw the other dog. It was determined that they were not a match and he was returned to kennel with no issue.

5/6/26: Rosco is at the front of his kennel with a soft body and jumps on the kennel bars to bark at the handler; the handler lures Rosco with a treat while leahsing him and brings him out of his kennel. While exiting the room, Rosco turns his head with a open mouth seemingly towards the leash, but turns back around and looks forward. In the elevator, he is jumping on the handler a few times. After entering the hallway, Rosco picks up a toy and carries it out the building; he plays with it until he drops on the street. Rosco walks ahead with mild leash tension; he doesn't react to dogs or passersby. Rosco is then brought inside for his assessment (see notes); afterwards, the handler returns Rosco to his kennel with ease.

5/6/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Rosco leash bites when he is being leashed. Proper signage has been given.

4/14/26:(Assessment) Rosco is at the front of the kennel with a soft body and wagging tail. Handler leashes him as he is trying to push his way out of the kennel. Rosco pulls hard out of the room and is taken to the street. He walks with a loose leash and relieves himself. When observing dogs he stares at them tense. Rosco is brought back inside the shelter and to the assessment office. He pulls towards the passing pop up crates with a tense body. Rosco greets the assessor with a soft body and wagging tail. He is easily collared. After his assessment, Rosco pulls to the passing pop ups. He pulls towards the passing kennels as he enters the room and is returned to kennel without further issue.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake:: 4/12/2026
Summary:: Social, jumping up on handler

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial:: 4/13/2026
Summary:: Body relaxed; easily examined

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Rosco FKA Cupcake so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations::
No children (under 13),
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments::

No children (under 13): Due to the low threshold for arousal we recommend an adult only home.

We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges:
Resource guarding,
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,
Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments::

Resource Guarding: Rosco FKA Cupcake was observed to become tense and hover over a toy in her possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Rosco's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding.

On Leash Reactivity: Rosco FKA Cupcake was observed to persistently bark at a handler before lunging at them when they entered the room. Rosco will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other people. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

Arousal: Rosco FKA Cupcake was observed to quickly become over aroused when the handler initiated contact. Noted to headwhip with an open mouth. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Rosco to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue “mat” can be used to reinforce calm behaviors. Please see handout on Arousal.

IN GRAVE DANGER - EUTH COMMAND

****A $1000 STIPEND IS AVAILABLE TO THE NEW HOPE PARTNER THAT PULLS OTTANI!**

*** Adoption return after a day – and the reason is laughable! ***

But first…..

A Volunteer Writes: “Besty boy ever? Best boy EVER! We are all enchanted by this gentle, kind, sweet boy who loves everyone he meets. In fact, when a dog barked at him in the park, he just looked away and back at me, far preferring the peace of my lap than any activity. He’s a gorgeous walker, appears housetrained, and is perfectly mannered. Ottani came in as a stray and could gain a few more pounds, but the rest of him is PERFECT. Actually, if you don’t believe us, come see for yourself!”

We have heard them all, but really, seriously, you won’t believe it. Little Ottani was rolling on his back, wiggling away, playing with his parent of a one day, when the roommate went to unclip his leash from his collar at the same moment Ottani was flipping his head back and forth. Ottani accidentally scraped the roommates thumb with his tooth and it was back to the shelter for poor Ottani who did absolutely NOTHING wrong! It was an accident during play. What a big baby the roommate is, right? So here’s our sweetest of boys who the volunteers absolutely adore, sitting in a kennel again. He is so charming, well behaved, gentle and loving. He adores putting his head in your lap and closing his eyes while you pet him. He wants nothing more in the whole wide world than to please. We are so sad for Ottani. And that is why we want you to start sharing him far and wide for a new family who are not nincompoops. He is waiting for you at Manhattan ACC. MESSAGE OUR PAGE for assistance fostering or adopting him now.

Ottani has so many movies! Volunteers love him!

What my friends at ACC say about me:
My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!
I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.
I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.
I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy!
I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles!

Date of intake: 7-Mar-2026
Spay/Neuter status: No
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home): Stray, No known history

Other Notes:

Ottani was returned to the care center within 24 hours due to an incident in the home. The owner's roommate was then uncomfortable having Ottani in the home and told the owner to return him due to the incident.

On April 12 around 9pm the owner and their roommate were playing with Ottani in their home. Ottani was on his back with his mouth open as the roommate was scratching his belly. The roomate then reached down to unclip Ottani's harness and Ottani turned his head quickly toward the action. Ottani's tooth then scraped the roomate's right thumb drawing blood in a small line. Ottani did not bite down.

Our DLM note about all this: What big damn baby. This was an accident, Ottani was on his back playing. People are losers.

PLAYGROUP NOTES – DOG TO DOG SUMMARY
Summary - 4/3/26: Ottani greets another dog at the gate with a tense body. He muzzle punches the fence while vocalizing.

ENRICHMENT NOTES

5/14/26: Ottani is jumping in kennel as handler approaches however is kept on all 4's with a treat lure. Ottani allows easy leashing and pulls hard out of kennel. He is kept on a short leash due to previously noted reactivity. Once out on side walk he is pulling hard, panting, strain-faced. He sees a medium dog, tail is wagging fast but he holds position, and loses interest once the dog is pulled away. On the walk Ottani drops into a sit position for treats, allows all petting from handler. Ottani sees a smaller dog when approaching corner, he rears up on hind legs, briefly vocalizes and becomes tense. Ottani is pulled away and resumes walk, forward body, pulling moderately but consistently. Ottani is walked back to kennel without issue.

5/13/26: When handlers are removing neighboring dogs, Ottani is observed to be jumping vertically in kennel high up on the kennel door (approximately 5-6 feet). He does this several times until the handler is no longer near kennel.

5/10/26: Reported via whiteboard that Ottani pulls hard and needs a harness

5/9/26: Ottani is at the front of his kennel, exuberantly jumping in kennel; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. On the street, Ottani walks ahead with mild to moderate leash tension; he doesn’t react to passersby. When seeing a few dogs, Ottani stares and looks back at them constantly; the handler calls him and he turns his attention to them, but then goes back to staring. Ottani engages with the handler; he sits on command and takes treats, and allows pets. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and walks Ottani to his room; he fixates on a dog walking in the hallway, but the handler pulls their leash and eventually brings him into kennel.

5/6/26: Ottani's kennel has been observed to be fully covered in feces and blood.

05/01/26: Ottani is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he begins vocalizing and jumping at the kennel door as handler unlocks the door. Ottani is frantic but is distracted with treats which he takes intensely but once leashed is removed from kennel, he follows another treat out and into the hallway. From here he is taken to the street, outside Ottani shows mild/moderate reactivity toward dogs he sees. He will pull toward them with a tense body but when handler calls to Ottani he turns and sits for handler. He is able to be redirected and when the dog is out of sight Ottani continues walking. He pulls moderately on the street and passes people without issue. After a bit he is brought back inside and returned to kennel following tossed treats.

4/26/26: Ottani is at the front of the kennel with a soft body and high wagging tail. He is easily leashed and pulls out of the kennel. Ottani is taken out of the kennel. He observes a dog in the hallway and stares towards them with a tense forward body. Handler calls him away and feeds him treats. He is then walked out to the street where he walks with a loose leash besides the handler. He relieves himself a few times. Ottani hard stares at dogs and is called away. He is told to sit, which he follows and fed treats. After sometime, Ottani pulls moderately back into the shelter, he is brought back to kennel and is returned without issue.

4/23/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Ottai "may need street walks" as he is "very dog reactive in the yard".

4/23/26: Ottani is at the front of his kennel, jumping really high as the handler approaches; he is leashed and brought out the room. The handler then brings Ottani to the yard for playgroup (see dog-dog notes). After the interaction, the handler brings Ottani inside and returns him to his kennel.

4/17/26: Ottani is reported to jump up really high while reacting to other dogs in the backyard; he fixates on the dogs until they enter the building. Treats did not redirect him as he reacted.

4/14/26: Ottani is standing at the front of the kennel with a loose wiggly body. He is easily leashed and brought to the yard. He sniffs around and relieves himself. He sits for treats and allows petting. He trots around with a loose body. He is returned to his kennel with ease.

4/13/26- Ottani was seen standing at the front of their kennel panting heavily and barking off and on.

4/2/26: Ottani has a loose wiggly body when leashing. He exits kennel with no issue and is brought out of the room and through the hallway where he shows no interest with any dogs in pop up crates. Once on the street, Ottani pulls moderately and sniffs the ground before relieving himself. He noticed two dogs barking from a parked car; briefly made eye contact and continued walking without any reactivity. He walks some more before entering MACC building and up the stairs. Once outside the room, Ottani exhibits high arousal; Handler then asks him to sit, which he does and is given a treat which he takes a bit firmly. Handler then clips his leash and is able to bring him back into kennel without an issue.

3/31/26: Ottani is reported to be kennel reactive and dog reactive. While on leash Ottani is darting around and not able to settle.

3/25/26: Ottani was observed to be pulling and lunging towards another dog on the street. He was not able to redirected with squeakers.

3/21/26: Ottani is at the front of his kennel with a loose body; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. On the street, Ottani walks ahead with mild leash ension; he doesn't react to people or dogs; with dogs, he looks at them, but breaks his focus. Ottani is social with the handler, allowing pets and presenting a wiggly body when they speak to him in a baby voice. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Ottani to his kennel.

3/10/26: Ottani is at the front of his kennel with a loose, wiggly body. He is easily leashed and brought out the kennel; however, he pulls towards the dog in the kennel next to his, but the handler guides him away and walks him outside of the room. On the street, Ottani walks ahead with mild to no leash tension; he doesn't react to passersby. He also looks at one person walk past with a neutral body. Upon entry, the handler brings Ottani inside for his assessment (see notes). Afterwards, the handler brings Ottani into the room; there, he slightly pulls towards a few kennels, and before entering his own kennel, Ottani pulls towards the same kennel next to his again. The handler pulls Ottani away and slightly muscles him into his kennel.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of Intake: 7-Mar-2026
Summary: n/a

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial: 9-Mar-2026
Summary: Body relaxed; easily examined.

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Ottani so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 3

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Single Pet Home
Recommend no dog parks

Recommendations comments:

No children (under 13): Due to poor impulse control and on leash reactivity we recommend a home with no young children.

Single Pet Home/ No Dog Parks: Due to his on leash reactivity and behavior during his dog to dog interaction, we recommend a single pet home with no trips to the dog park.

Potential challenges:
Basic manners/poor impulse control
Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition
Separation anxiety
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:

Basic Manners: Ottani was observed to jump up on handlers in a social manner. It is recommended that default behaviors such as "Sit" and "Off" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach them to control their impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward-based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners.

Mouthiness: Please see "Other Notes" for more details. We recommend never playing with bare hands, always with a toy, and ending play or attention whenever Ottani puts teeth on skin. They should be rewarded with attention and treats when they stop and/or when they are seeking attention in alternate ways. Please see handout on Mouthiness.

Separation Anxiety: Otanni's former fosters report that he suffers from separation anxiety when left alone for long periods of time. We recommend that potential adopters feel comfortable with separation anxiety behaviors and prepared to manage and positively modify them should they appear in a home environment. He would do best in a home where a person is at home for a large part of the day or with a plan so he is not alone for long periods of time. Please see handout on Separation Anxiety.

On Leash Reactivity: Ottani has been observed to pull towards other dogs in the kennel room and react to the other dogs while in the yard. Ottani will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

🚨SUMMER SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA 5/22 @ 11AM FOR MEDICAL🚨

Summer is a shy, timid mama who recently finished raising her puppies… and all of them have already secured safe outcomes. Summer is the one still desperately needing help.

She is suffering from a severe case of mastitis, including a ruptured, draining mammary gland that will require ongoing medical treatment, pain management, wound care, and a calm environment to properly heal. Summer is also heartworm positive and will. During her time at the shelter, she has additionally battled ongoing GI upset and symptoms of CIRDC/kennel cough including sneezing, nasal discharge, and coughing. She is currently receiving Clavamox and Carprofen for her painful mastitis and inflammation.

Despite everything, Summer continues showing people her gentle side. Shelter staff and volunteers describe her as cautious at first, needing slow intros and patience, but once she feels safe she becomes affectionate, seeks out pets, cuddles, belly rubs, and even gently approaches for comfort on her own. Volunteers noted how relieved she seemed just to get outside away from the kennel environment after caring for her puppies nonstop.

Multiple volunteers have successfully leashed, walked, handled, and cuddled her without issue once she was given time and space to decompress. Playgroup notes describe her as social, allowing greetings, and calmly exploring the yard.

This girl does not deserve to die after surviving motherhood, illness, and the shelter. She urgently needs a hero willing to give her the medical care, patience, and safe space she needs to finally recover and feel secure.
