Soviet Elektronika‑5 “Doctor” cardiomonitor watches

They were produced in a small batch by the Minsk Elektronika plant in the mid‑1980s. They were housed in a modified case of the serial Elektronika‑5 model. In addition to performing the basic function of a watch with a calendar, they recorded heart rate and determined the nature of arrhythmia (if present). Three external sensors were connected to the watch via a coaxial connector. In the event of a cardiac disturbance, an audible alarm was triggered

GMD‑90 — Soviet 3.5‑inch floppy disks

In 1990, the Kiev NPO Elektronmash began production of 3.5‑inch floppy disks (capacities 720 KB and 1.44 MB)

Prototypes of 3‑inch floppy disk drives were developed by the Zelenograd Scientific Center (research work "Otvet‑115"), the Kiev NPO Elektronmash (model V959), the Kirov NIISVT (model index not yet established), and a certain Ukrainian research institute Print (model NGMD‑90). In addition, the Elektronika MS 5308 drive is mentioned in technical literature.

BK-2300T — model of a Soviet air conditioner with a heating function.

Manufacturer: Baku Household Air Conditioner Plant. It supported heating, ventilation, and cooling modes, with two-stage fan speed control and smooth temperature adjustment. It also featured the ability to exchange air between the room and the outside environment.

Notably, significantly more 8-position mode switches used in the BK-2300T were produced than the number of finished units assembled, and they were installed in the regular BK-2300 models.

This design has no heating element; heating is achieved through the reverse movement of the refrigerant in the circuit via a special valve — the evaporator thus turns into a condenser, and the condenser into an evaporator. If the outdoor temperature drops below the temperature of the external radiator, heating ceases. This precludes using the air conditioner as a heat source during periods of severe cold

Project of the House of Soviets of Stalingrad. Architect G. P. Golts (Architecture of the USSR №16 1947)

The work of G. P. Golts, cut short by the untimely death of the talented author, remained unfinished, but this does not diminish the merits of his composition, conceived and executed with great enthusiasm. The image of the building he created—courageous and significant in expression—is closely associated with thoughts of the city’s heroic epic. There is much strength and impulse in it; epic seriousness and lyrical picturesqueness. This is a complex architectural symphony built on a rich range of contrasts.

Blocked residential house. (Architecture of the USSR №3 1959)

Project by third-year student V. Malyshev. Supervisors: Professor M. Sinyavsky, Associate Professor Ya. Belopolsky, Instructor A. Ignatieva

In the development, two types of houses are used: single-section multi-story buildings located in the park on the elevated part, and blocked houses arranged in groups along the slope. The blocked house is positioned perpendicular to the direction of the contour lines and consists of nine apartments of one, two, and four rooms, situated at different levels but connected to the plots. On the lower level are one- and two-room apartments (with a half‑floor level difference between the rooms). The structural basis is a light reinforced concrete frame with infill of wooden panels, the plank cladding of which is painted. The living area of the house is 312 m², the cubic volume is 1,746 m³. K = 5.6.

Building of the Administration of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs (NKVD) in Yerevan. Architect G. Kochar (Architecture of the USSR №11 1934)

Contemporary Western influences, refracted in their own way, are sometimes evident in the forms of buildings that do not have such a declarative appearance. They quite inventively combine the demands of rationality and functionalism with local colour and the character of construction. They are simple and elegant in their structural principles, light and fresh in their colouring, and they successfully combine local tuff with glass. These include the GGRU building, the sewing workshop, the Erges residential building with its honeycomb‑like room arrangement, the striking glass palace of the hotel under construction, the original—though somewhat restless—building of the Narkomvnudel with its bold spiral screwed into the sky, and many others that make up the main body of the typical new building stock of Erivan.

Building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Armenia in Yerevan. Architect M. Grigoryan (Architecture of the USSR №1 1952)

The building, erected to the design of architect M. Grigoryan, represents a significant contribution to the further development of Yerevan’s architecture. By the character of its volumetric composition and its order treatment, it differs in its own way from many new structures in Yerevan.

In this work, M. Grigoryan very boldly and consistently pursues his creative line, aimed at a more active assimilation of the heritage of Russian classical architecture. The clear plan and expressive plastic volume of the building are well integrated with the topography of the site.

It should be noted that this composition is not free from shortcomings: the break in the entablature appears accidental and unjustified, the window opening in the central bay is exaggerated; the semicircular windows are too obstructed by the capitals. However, these drawbacks are to a large extent redeemed by the rigorous and clear overall tectonic order of the architectural forms.
