Why this local site behaves itself differently on Windows and Linux?

I'm learning Arabic and I'd like to use modified Arabic keyboard. Unfortunately, I don't have enough knowledge to program my own keyboards on the system level, so, I decided to have this keyboard as a local site for myself, bcz I'll be spending my time on learning Arabic anyway.

I decided to copy the original code, delete a lot of unimportant details, and modify the keyboard how I want. The original site is here: https://www.branah.com/arabic

For the context: Arabic letters change their forms, depending on which position they are in a word.

When I had Windows 10, everything worked perfectly.

When I had EndeavourOS(just look at the photo), I got this bug or what Idk... it looks funny, but the text is impractical. Wtf is that?

After some other issues, I switched to Kubuntu, and I don't have that, but I have another problem: sometimes the Arabic letters don't connect with each other and don't change their form.

Could someone explain why does that happen so differently even in the Linux distros?

I think "GNU/Linux" isn't correct for what we understand under the "Linux"

I see more and more people use "GNU/Linux" instead of just "Linux", bcz "it describes what we all understand under the word better". I think that's wrong if we want to walk about Linux as something generic and not like the kernel. Bcz if the name is correct, then can I use the name "GNU/Linux" and mean Android, Chimera Linux, Alpine Linux by it?

Personally I use just "Linux" as the generic term, but if I need to mean the kernel, I say "Linux kernel".

What do you think about it?

Correct me if I'm wrong in thinking about "GNU/Linux"

Keymapping, but different: numpad for different languages

hi, guys! I'd like to ask if it's possible to make something like this on Kubuntu: it is related to the keymapping, but, instead of some specific Unicode symbols, I'd like to change whole keyboard layouts.

The logic should work like this: if num lock is active, every key must mean a number I type, otherwise: a whole keyboard layout(0 - Latin, 1 - Greek, 2 - Cyrillic etc).

Can I do it on Kubuntu with KDE Plasma 6?

why the updates parameter is different on different platforms?

I like OnlyOffice and I used it on Windows 10 and now I'm using it on Linux. For the first time I thought one thing just seemed that way to me, but when I checked it again and made photos to compare. I noticed that the Windows version does have the Updates parameter and any Linux I tried(Fedora, Kubuntu, EndeavourOS, Mint and some others) don't have it. Is it bcz the Linux users update their apps through the terminal or what?

For the context: I only used the native versions and flatpaks

could someone plz explain why Rust is so great to a C++ programmer?

hi! I program Windows apps in C++/C#. I'd like to program apps for these 3 platforms: Windows, Linux(.deb and flatpaks), BSD. If I program something for myself, I don't like to update them often: I'm more like willing to create something once and for all. Idk what else I can use to program for different platforms, except for wxWidgets, but that's another issue.

Shortly, here are my needs for a language: programming for Windows/Linux/BSD, having as much speed as I want, using as low memory as I can, using it for automation and AI(mostly the local AI), using it for programming video games(I doubt for that, but maybe I'll be interested in the future).

I heard that C++ is yesterday and Rust is tomorrow. Tbh Idk a lot of things about the language, but programmers(usually the younger ones) keep talking me that Rust has better memory control than C++ and it'll make my life easier, bcz I'll have less errors. Idk what that can mean exactly, but I'm curious what can be better than the pointers, with which I can manage everything I need. I also saw a commentator somewhere, who wrote that he'd trust a Rust-based app, even if it was written by AI, bcz Rust won't allow the errors to crush the system if something happens. Could someone explain what the people mean by that?

Edit here: I forgot to add that Idk if I should try to learn Rust, bcz the very same younger programmers keep also talking about the Zig language, so, I'm kinda confused here...;

The only Rust-based project Ik is Typst, and I like it. The other thing Ik about the language is that a lot of people reprogram apps on the language.

Is Rust worth for learning? Can it fully replace C++? If yes, what IDE would you recommend: Visual Studio, Vscodium, Vim, a JetBrains one or maybe something specific for the language?

Edit: thx for your comments! They are really useful! In my opinion, the algebraic datatypes reason should be more popularized, bcz it's more clear to compare to something you know instead of vague reasons like "faster code with better memory control".

If that's not an issue, could someone explain how the Rust compiler "understands" the memory-safety bugs without a person, who could check it if everything is ok? If someone wants to write the explanation, it shouldn't be the long messages, you could use the "explain it to me like I'm 5 yo" format;

Is there a site with a list of apt files of apps?

I hate snaps and I wanna install apps, but Discover shows only the snap ones. Is there a site, where I could see the list of apps and just copy the commands and paste to terminal?

No hate, but how to solve the issues?

I like the KDE project, but I don't like the default settings: the buttons are always round and even when I made them squared, different apps like Brave Browser show the circle ones anyway. I don't use the Desktop Workspaces and I wanna disable it completely. I wanna have the Cinnamon look(unfortunately it doesn't have the fractional scaling, so... KDE), but I didn't see anyone, who made that(I heard you can export your settings and looks from one device to another on KDE). I have other issues, but I'm trying to solve them. Interesting, is there a command prompt to just type and change everything?

Hi! I installed Bazzite to test how it will work for games, Windows apps and some other things I do 24/7. The first thing I saw confused is that Bazzite is Fedora-based, but dnf doesn't work. Every app from Bazaar is flatpak and that's strange a bit: aren't there any native apps? Also could someone look at the photo and explain me what Lutris, ProtonPlus and Steam Big Picture Mode are? The only things Ik about Linux gaming are Heroic, Bottles, Wine and Steam

What was that list+search bar combined thing in the terminal?

This was the original post(modified):

Hi! I wanna have an official version or flatpak and not AUR on one thing, which Idk how it is named, but I do remember how it looks like.

For the context: when I saw an Arch user's desktop, I saw something interesting in his terminal: it was like a search bar combined with a list of a lot of apps. When you type a name(without even an extension), the terminal shows every possible app you can install(Idk if it can show every flatpak, but that's not important, bcz I have the Discover from KDE). Idk how it is named, so, I wouldn't like to install something Idk.

So, what was that?

;

The correct answer was: fish

Here's link to show 2 examples how it works: https://imgur.com/a/fish-aur-on-arch-linux-hbf1rYI

;

But write down possible alternatives, if you know them. Unfortunately for me, this thing is from AUR, so... I guess I won't use it, but we'll see in the future. The fish thing is really useful: it can find a lot of things you could probably not even think about, so, I(based on the user's opinion) would use it

Could someone explain me what this warning means?

Parameters:

• OS: EndeavourOS(Arch-based distro);

• DE: KDE Plasma 6;

• Signal version: flatpak;

The issue: I wanna install Signal on my desktop, but I see this message. I understand I can just prompt commands on terminal and it'll solve the problems(Idk if once and for all), but could someone explain why I didn't have this on Windows 10, for example, but I have it now? What is the logic behind this? Would you recommend to use the web version on Brave Browser?

Beginner interested in EOS

Hi, guys! I'm finishing(at least I hope) different tasks on Windows 10 and I can return to Linux. I tried different distros(mostly were Debian-based) and everything was fine, expect for video games and Windows apps. Idk why, but everything worked slower than it should've work and some apps just didn't open... I'm the type of person, who divides every thing based on different needs, so, if I needed to work with a server, I wouldn't have any problems with using a distro without GUI.

Here are my needs for this OS: using graphics apps, playing video games(from Steam and... 🏴‍☠️, I don't play the anti-cheat games, generally only the offline ones), programming(mostly for creating GUI apps), using the office apps, connecting to {printer, monitors, phones, gamepad}, using virtual machines, using older apps, so, basically everything you can do on a normal PC 24/7.

Because of a lot of different things I'm working with or I'd like to finish, I'd like to have a distro, which mostly is "from the box", so, something like Arch linux isn't great for me, bcz I'll need to read EVERY thing in order to not get a new issue to worry about(yeah, I'm talking about the incident with AUR). After listening to me, one dude told me about EndeavourOS: it's like Windows 10(plenty of things are "from the box", and it doesn't have any problems with, for example, OBS Studio), but it's pretty fast, bcz it's Arch-based. I was told that this distro is super stable among other Arch-based distros and if I'll have bugs, they'll be minimal. Also I heard that FPS is one of the highest in games that higher can be perhaps in CachyOS or SteamOS.

If I choose this distro, I'd like to ask these questions:

  1. how often should I update the whole system? Bcz I like that I can not update, for example, Ubuntu for years and it'll work fine;

  2. should I use AUR anyway? Just I can check the manuals, but I don't wanna waste much time on that(as I said, I can't be everywhere at the same time);

  3. (this question is not specific for EndeaourOS, but I guess I want to use it 24/7, so, anyway) I'd like to learn how to program apps for Linux(flatpak and the Arch extension), but I don't like to update something if I see something doesn't needs to be updated, so, how can I run older Linux apps? Just Ik I can use Bottles to run older Windows apps even faster than on Windows itself, but I have no idea about the Linux variantion if it exists or not;

  4. Unfortunately, in the near future I'll probably have a new laptop with Intel and Nvidia... So, how does the distro behave to the proprietary cards?;

  5. Is Ventoy great for installing this distro?;

Interesting, guys, would you recommend this distro for using the 24/7 things? If I learn how to set up almost everything once and for all, I'd like to popularize this distro instead of Linux Mint or Debian.

Oh, also you can see my computer parameters on the photo and I have printer Canon G2420, PS5 gamepad Dual Sense for PS5/PC/mobile

Possible bug after rendering a video

I'm learning Kdenlive and every rendering of a video was fine, but yesterday I noticed one problem: Idk why, but the app shows rendering wasn't problematic etc, but the only thing I see is *photo2*... Where's the video? And today I tried to change different parameters, but the result is the same. On *photo1* I showed the info about the app on my PC

Questions about dDocs.new and the another products

Tbh I didn't think I'll ever need a "Google Office" alternative, bcz I thought the local alternative to MS Office, OnlyOffice, would be more than enough, but I was wrong. I noticed that sometimes I need to send data in tables, but the person doesn't show me any messengers, even Signal, or the person doesn't use any social media to speak with someone(yeah I had it once). Also sometimes I need together with the person to modify the tables, so, the only thing we were using is the Google Shits.

I tried to see info about dDocs.new on the Internet, Reddit, but the results were only about the Google Docs... I even tried to ask AI about that service, but even this only showed the Google result... So, I tried it by myself and... it looked really nice. I didn't know where the tables are, so, I tried to type "dsheets.new" and... I got what I needed. After some tries to find more info about the similar products, I found only the Fileverse.

I'd like to ask about these questions:

  1. Does it mean I can use dSheets.new the same way I used Google Sheets? And the file will be saved on a cloud?;

  2. Is it really safe? Just I really didn't know the products exist. I just wrote "dDocs.new" a few months ago to my notes and checked it yesterday, when I got free time;

  3. Are there another products from the creator? Like presentations, for example? Bcz for now I only know dDocs.new, dSheets.new, Fileverse;

  4. Can I use Fileverse as the Google Drive? If yes, how many memories does it allow me to have?;

  5. Can another person modify a file if I allow them?;

If I forgot a question, I'll add it in the Edits

Problems with Arabic keyboard on computer

hi, guys! I read your comments about my Arabic handwriting and thank y'all for the support and advices. For now, I'm trying to adapt typing the Arabic letters, and I have no problems on the phone keyboard, but I have problems with the computer keyboard, so, I got these questions(I have "Arabic(Egypt) 101" keyboard and the OS is Windows 10, but in the near future I'll use Linux, so, if someone is a Linux user, your advice would be even better for me):

  1. why does Arabic keyboard has these digits: 0, 1, 2..., when they have: ب0,1,2...(sorry for the letter "ب", just Idk why the digits change to the standard ones instead of the Arabic, if I don't write an Arabic letter)? Just I want to have everything predictable, so, how to solve the issue?

Edit here: how did that happen after copying the text from my notepad? I saw the Arabic Arabic letters... I hope y'all understand about which exactly Arabic letter I mean;

  1. this issue is similar to the q1: why does Arabic keyboard shows me the standard punctuation marks, when I need the Arabic versions of " . ", " . ", " ! " and so on(the question mark is fine: "؟")? Again, I want to have only the Arabic versions of Unicode characters, bcz Idk how, but sometimes I get a bug about positions fragments of words in texts, when a text has at least one non-Arabic full stop;

  2. what is this letter "لا"? I often see it in different texts with some fonts, but I have no idea what it is. Is it something like "ء", which isn't considered "a letter in the alphabet" or what?;

  3. why I don't have this sign " ـٰ "(Alif Khanjarīyah) as the other harakats on the keyboard?;

PS: when I was learning how to write the Arabic letters, I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSR6p9TnIv4 . Interesting, do you think it was a good recommendation or not exactly?
