Best beaches for collecting a) shells and b) driftwood

Thanks in advance, looking to do some beach indoor decor and possibly extend to juzzing some outdoor pots and garden.

Am originally from Dunedin where shell collecting is incredible, especially at Aramoana

Intense morning sleepiness

I’ve had hypothyroidism for 13yrs and Rheumatoid arthritis for 5 I think. Im the past 2 weeks on my 20km commute to work I’m driving directly into the sun for the majority of the drive and have the heater going as it’s winter (NZ) … not a problem in itself but at the point the traffic slows from 120kmhr motorway to slow off ramp traffic I get overtaken with intense sleepiness.

My eyes want to close, blinking gets slow, eyes are unfocused and I just want to pull over for a nap. Coincidentally just had my bloods done and they are all “within normal levels”.

Has anyone else experienced this? I have an appointment with my GP booked but couldn’t get one until next week.

Beach theme advice

We’ve just set up a tropical aquarium (which in itself is a whole other advice need 😅) and have leftover pebbles and sand. I’m an avid collector of sea shells from various beaches and also have a bunch of retail bought ones. Really keen to do an open air planted bowl as well as a closed terrarium. I have mini fish bowls already without lids. I’ve seen others use plastic discs for lids but I’ve never seen anything like that in stores in NZ.

Would love to see some existing builds for inspiration! Pic of one collection

What’s for dinner home cooks?

I have fresh prawns but not sure what I’m going to do with them yet. I have ask the ingredients for a salmon pizza so could do a seafood one but not 💯 set on that yet

I need the best scone recipe ever, and it has to rise!

I’m the only female in a workgroup of 14 men and am a solo mum whose 12yr old flatmate (who is well behind on rent) loves to bake. I have a no sugar colleague tho so would like to bring scones for a work shout.

Every scone I’ve ever made turns out flat and disappointing. I want a decent recipe that will cater for this group of guys in a physically and mentally demanding job.

Pleeease help me! Butter is expensive so if a buttery marg can be substituted I’d appreciate that too. And I don’t have any fancy baking equipment either

Pic for inspo!

My daughter is turning 13, do I buy her…

A) a double bed frame (NZ, not sure all countries have doubles) and mattress or..
B) a tropical fish aquarium

Obviously she is dead keen on a bigger bed, what kid isn’t!

And has recently expressed an interest in getting tropical fish. I only grew up with goldfish and am totally keen to add some to the family.

Price aside, as I’ll worth within a budget regardless, what do you (and your similar aged kiddos) think? Extra points for those who bring their kids’ opinions here!

Edit to add; I’m an analyst by trade so have already done a tonne of tropical fish research 😅 and now want them too. We are a family of 2, with 2 dogs and a cat so not unfamiliar with responsibility that comes with pets. In general her work ethic needs some work but she loves all animals to death. Not exactly but ykwim!

Need a third opinion, small kitchen Reno value

I have a spare $50k and planning to put $40k to my mortgage but would like to do a small upgrade to my kitchen. I have a stupid 2 tier benchtop where the breakfast bar is and the top level just ends up gathering junk. It cuts off the kitchen from the dining area. I’d install some corner cupboard hardware to make getting into the back of them easier, I have 3 and they are nightmares! When I moved in I had all the cabinetry painted but it’s wearing in places where one cupboard hits another, has been 4 years.

A colleague I respect has told me it’s a waste of money and should put it to something else. Other than fix the side pathway between my house and neighbours.. remove the bark, level it, put down stones, I don’t really have much else I need.

Also I could realistically do both as my mortgage is only $240k

I have KiwiSaver, can’t remember what its value is, no other investments, solo mum one child almost in high school. She has a good bank balance from an inheritance

Thanks for reading. Pic is post Reno, it was all mushroom brown cabinets and old black Lino. They owners clearly did a quick refresh before the sold. The oven has a big gap between the appliance and the cabinetry, I had to replace the rangehood this month and need to repaint behind it and I hate the stainless steel splashback

Anyone interested in a broken 65” semi smart Sony tv for parts? Or is a smash place or Eco store the best option?

I’ve enjoyed working from the inside out

But I don’t think I can keep it up because I’ll be changing pots every 5 minutes!

This is same brand as my leopard which had the dry brown pot, mistaken for peanut butter ready for a snack 😅 it’s definitely the brand and tends to be the browns and black which are the worst so far. The green texture was fine. Invested in some flow aid which has been life changing!

Cape Reinga, NZ.

And…. Photo of my friend and my daughter 4 years ago.

The pic is showing much more yellow than it is, my walls are def not that colour. The path needs some work but I’ve moved on to the next one 🤣

My daughters account keeps recommending friends who are in MY contact list

It is super weird, our accounts aren’t linked. The only reason I can think of is because she has it on her tablet as well as her phone and for some reason her tablet is logged into my Google account.
